Upgrade while under warranty?

I've had my refurb Tivo for two weeks, and have already ordered 120G add-on upgrade kit from Weaknees. Should I wait until the 90-day warranty is up before installing?

I know it's my call, but interested in what others have done...

TIA,

Got my HDVR2 on May 26, 2003 and added the 120g upgrade from weaknees last Saturday June 14, 2003

Upgrading during the warranty period can be an issue if you need to send the unit back. If you are replacing your original HD and keep it, then in the event you need to send the unit in, you can put it back they way you got it.

Otherwise I would not worry about the warranty. If the unit is working now, the main failure points are the HD's which by your willingness to upgarde proves you are not afraid to replace them if necessary.

Go ahead, the extra space will fill up quickly. :)

I'm not replacing, but adding-on another drive (original 80G + new 120G).
I'm not sure that I'll want to reverse the procedure (new bracket, fans, etc.)
if I send it back. But if the original HD goes bad I'll just replace it with another 120G.

I was more concerned if something else failed, I'd have to pay for diagnosis
and repair. I did save $100 by getting a refurb.

In any case, I need to get more space to record all the Wimbledon tennis matches next week, so I'll put it in despite doubts..thanks for the encouragemant.
