Wow!! Such great detail too... ;)

Well, that's certainly a wealth of information.

For those who missed it, based on this thread, it's an SVR-3000 with a 120 GB drive:

How do we know this is a DVR and not some robotic dog?

Posted by: MediaLivingRoom

it states "Sony SVR-4000 Digital Network Recorder" oh goodie!!!! I hope it's more than just a HD upgrade. Maybe direct to an external DVD-R recording?? I hope.

I just called and they said the MSRP is $499

Sony has called all its TiVos, starting with the SVR-2000, "Digital Network Recorder". Don't read anything more into that than marketing-speak.

I believe it when I see a picture of it. Not till then.

Take a picture of a 3000. Photoshop a 4 over the 3.

Voila.

$499 MSRP to me seems pretty decent.

Maybe a rebate to go along with that, and that's not bad.

Why are they even bothering going up a full thousand to 4000? Putting a bigger hard drive in the exact same model they already have is little more than an SVR-3100 or SVR-3120.

Sony putting a 120GB hard drive in a TiVo is a good idea. Those that want the larger hard drive without voiding the warranty will prefer this option. Also an extended warranty might make sense now. I bought an extended warranty for one of mine, then voided it a few weeks later by opening up the box and putting in a 120GB drive. I am still kicking myself over that silly move.

By putting the 120 inside and hopefully leaving room for two as the SVR3000 does, they would have saved me from 'throwing' away the 80 to put in 2x120's.
