My 1st gen Hughes DirecTiVo just died and luckily it is going to be replaced. I had originally upgraded to one 120GB hard drive in this machine and was wondering if I will be able to just drop this drive into the replacement unit. (I put the original drive back in the DirecTiVo for return)
The kicker is that the replacement may not be the same brand DirecTiVo and it may even be a 2nd gen with the usb ports....
My question is, will I be able to install my 120GB hard drive in the new machine without having to change anything? (or lose my old programs...)
Thanks,
Drew

The drive will have to be reformatted. Even if it is the same model Directivo, you still wouldn't be able to play your shows back, since they would be tied to your old unit.

More specifically, your drive will need to be re-imaged with the appropriate image for your new Tivo model. Drive images are NOT swappable across different Tivo's.
