If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it! I have the Hughes Series 2 Tivo .. HDVR2.

1st rule in hacking anything is to make a backup.. well I failed to do that and now I'm stuck. I've been lucky enough to find an image for a Hughes Tivo... and am now trying to load it onto an unformatted hard drive to test it out...

Here's what I have... Windows XP Home Edition (NTFS) on the Primary Master Controller... DVD-R in the Primary Slave... the Secondary Master is an unformatted Maxtor hard drive.. but isn't the one that the TiVo came with... it's one that was bought off of the shelf. 40 gb.

I have MFS Tools 2.0 and Dylan's boot disk... and the image for the Hughes TiVo.. the backup was made with MFS Tools.

All I want to do is load the image onto the new unformatted drive.. does it have to be formatted in a certain way for the TiVo to recognize it?

Secondly, if you change the hard drive incorrectly, and place it back into your tivo.. what damage can that do to your TiVo.. or is it just a hard drive error that can be fixed by placing the right image back to the hard drive if it boots incorrectly?

The drive has to be as large as the original A drive, but if that condition is met, then things are straight forward.

You should be able to mount your NTFS partition read-only, so if you save your backup as c:\tivo.bak you can follow Hinsdale's instructions precisely.

If you don't create the hard drive correctly, the TiVo won't boot. That's it.

I take it your image is for an HDVR 2 and not a GXCDBOT?
