Bootpage keeps changing!

I am trying to make the "hybrid" tivo upgrade for my HDVR2 using Ingineers instructions. I start off with my bootpage starting at hda7 like it should. I then dd over the partition from my U5 ver software, follow the rest of the instructions, and set my bootpage to hook the last partition.

I start up the tivo. It reboots itself before getting to "almost there". I got nothing working.

I take the drive out and check the bootpage, and it had reset to root=/dev/hda7.

Any thoughts?
