Stargate SG-1 "Fragile Balance" 6/20/03

What, no one has started a thread yet? I thought the kid's performance as young Jack was dead on. He had the mannerisms down to a t. It was hysterical... Interesting that this, according to tvtome.com, was postponed from season 4.

Funny that I happened to watch "Holiday" tonight. I loved when "Teal'c" played "O'neill" and vice versa.

They could've made "Fragile Balance" in Season 4 but it wouldn't have made sense without the cloning back story in "Revelations" in episode 522.

Thor mentioned that they placed a genetic marker into O'Neill. Care to guess when this might've happened? Perhaps in "The Fifth Race" ?

I just remembered that the SGC had a body of the Ancients in 604's "Frozen." Why not give that body to the Asgard and let them clone it? Sure it's a bit unethical but the Asgard would be able to learn from it. It would seem to be logical since Loki was looking for a human advanced enough to store the consciousness and massive intellect of an Asgard mind. An Ancient's body would seem to fit the bill.

My wife was telling me about this episode, and she agrees that the kid had the mannerisms right. She also mentioned that the director treated the kid as if he were the adult Jack - zooming in on him during the fadeouts to ad breaks.

Yeah, the kid was great. And this was a decent way to have RDA out of most of the episode (since he isn't supposed to be full-time now).

But, did anyone else feel the slightest bit of creepiness with the ending where

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
esstentially a 50 year old man went back to school to pick up high school girls

Oh well.

Heh, I had exactly the same thought...

Kinda kreepy .. sure .. however I felt the ending was wrong for more reasons than that ..

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

Its a security risk. You've got another Jack out there with all of his top secret knowledge just hanging out in high school?

Not only that, but its a *huge* waste of resources. During the ep Hammond says that no one was doubting that he could still contribute to the SGC (might have said SG-1) .. so why not still? He could train people, be a consultant? Or for the matter, he would be a great special ops guy again. Lot of training pumped into the head of a kid.

Poor ending .. I would have had him go with the Asgard (due to some medical reason they could have invented).

I expect we'll see more of the kid as RDA wants more time off. Samantha or Daniel will simply suggest seeking out "Jack, Jr." to see if he wants a little "vacation" from school.

Or if RDA finally follows through on his annual decision to leave the show, they could "age" the kid to an appropriate age (20s or so) to take command, or at least join the team.

I'm not saying I would like that, or that it would be a good idea, but I can't help wondering if that's not what they're thinking...

I thought the kid did an admirable job, but he didn't quite pull off Jack's smart ass - but then again not many teenagers could.

The ending seemed all honked up. Sam spent all that effort to get that cadet on track. On the other hand they could have spent 5 min of episode time on Jack Jr. refusing to help, demanding to be left alone, etc and ended up at the same spot.

I expect to see him back - ala the split Riker's in ST:TNG.

I thought maybe a better title for this episode would be 'Honey, I Shrunk the Clone'.

And another example of an episode spoiled by the trailers.

Posted by: BrettStah

Yeah, I've stopped watching the trailers for this show, as well as some others...
