Sex and the City season premiere (Spoilers)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So what did everyone think of the new episode of S&TC?

I thought it was pretty good... interesting storyline with
Charlotte thinking of converting to Judiasm.. hit home for me,
since my wife converted before we got married.

I like Berger and would like to see him be with Carrie, but
I'm sure it'll never happen.. She'll end up with one of her ex'es
I bet.. speaking of that, good to see Lucky... ERR I mean Aiden
again... of course, holding a baby was kinda different...

I wish they would get rid of Steve.. this whole on-and-off
again story with him and Miranda is more tiring than
Ross & Rachel on Friends... Geez, give it up already.

And of course, seeing Samantha getting it on (and Kim Cattrall's butt)
isn't bad either...

I loved it...The Samntha bit was HILLARIOUS (refer to the New Trading Spaces Carpenter thread for what I might have thought about the stock guy)...I loved the idea of the spontanious date with Berger...just what she needed...but didn't we ALL see that dinner conversation coming...

Miranda: 'I want to tell you something'
Steve: 'I've met someone'
Miranda: 'How nice...I'm thinking of buying a new toy for our kid'
Miranda in head: 'Damn, Damn, Damn, Damn'
Steve: Awesome

I didn't get the end of the show - it cut right when Carrie was calling to ask the guy out... but I'll get it in a rerun tonight. Argh padding!

Posted by: Tori

Mine dropped out while Carrie was on the phone too. I don't feel like grabbing it again though, can anybody fill me in on the last moments?

I really enjoyed it, but sheesh, Aiden sure found someone, married and had a kid pretty rapidly, the baby wasn't exactly brand new. Also did I miss him and Steve no longer being partners? Wouldn't Carrie already know about a marriage and a baby?

Ditto on the end getting cut off.

Aiden looked a lot slimmer than he does on Lucky, this episode must have been filmed a while ago.

Ah, the poop on the forehead thing was nasty.

Luckily I was watching it live and caught the end...HBO is normally VERY good about not running over, early...wonder why they did on the series premier?!?

So care to fill us poor souls who got cut off about the ending ? :)

The worst I've seen for Sex and the City running late is 4.5 minutes, mostly due to the episode itself being about 32 minutes long, so I use a 5 minute pad at the end.

About the ending:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

Carrie made her impulse phone call to Berger to meet her in front of the theater.

Berger arrived and quasi-apologized for not wearing a spiffier outfit.

Berger began to get out his money to buy the tickets, and Carrie waved a pair of tickets saying that everything was set.

And they walked through the revolving door into the theater.

End of episode.

1. I think HBO is terrible in this regard -- lots of shows run over/under. While not as bad as other nets (Showtime comes to mind), I've learned my lesson with HBO: pad and pad often.

2. Why did they do this? Advertising, my friend. Everyone who tuned in "on time" saw some advertising for other HBO shows (at least, that's what I think was on 930-932).

Showtime has been even worse lately, running a 50 minute show in a 45 minute time slot. I had a 5 minute pad on Queer as Folk and it hasn't been enough the last couple of weeks.

At least HBO/SHO rerun their shows immediately and all week, so you can easily catch what you missed if you care to setup a quick recording.

Yes - the poop was nasty. And it appeared to me that Steve was eating pizza (?) on the very same table Miranda was changing the baby....ewwww!!!
Good episode all the same.

Anybody recognize the stock guy from Mutant X? I stopped watching that show so he may not be on it anymore.

My SP is set for first runs only but it didn't want to catch this season premiere. Did anyone else's sp react the same way?

Within a couple of days of the showing, it still didn't show up on my TDL. I had to "force" it. Next week's already on it, though, with padding, so it couldn't have been a conflict.

I thought Sex and the City was a chick show. What do we have here. A bunch of Girlie men ? :D

Sex and the City is a show for all people...Burly men as well as Girlie men :D

I will not miss the show after it ends this season. IMO it was already going downhill during last years (truncated) season. The story of four self centered, self indulgent 40 something women has gone about as far as it can. And what's up with Samantha? Can they possibly make her any sluttier? I expect to see her turning tricks on the street before the end of the season.

BTW, to those who think it's strictly a girlie show, the writer and creator of the Sex and the City is a man: Darren Star, also the creator of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place FWIW.

I don't get it. Kim Cattrall never used to be shy about showing her b:eek::eek:s.

Yep. I think you proven my point :p And as far as the writer and creator
of Sex and the City being a man. I'm sure Males manufactures perfumes. But that does not mean it's made for men to use.

Now before I go an piss people off. I'm Just joking guys.....Kind of : up:

Now let me go and watch last weeks Queer As Folk

Am I the only one that thinks it's a good thing that this is the last season? I'm still entertained, but I think the tank's running on empty.

Posted by: zyzzx

I'm with you, Smiles. Like most HBO original series, Sex and the City was much better in the beginning. I loved the first two seasons but the last couple have been just okay. I still watch it but it isn't nearly as funny as the earlier episodes.

I had similar thoughts during at least part of Sunday's episode.

This isn't exactly the last season. They will show 12 episodes this summer and then another 8 starting in January.

Posted by: DLiquid

Yeah, I'd say the show has about run its course. I'm still enjoying it, but I'd prefer to see it end before it starts getting bad.

Posted by: Tori

I still love the show, and I expect to seriously miss it when it is over. SJP did mention that they may return with the occasional special episode in the future, so that would be nice. The only season I was disappointed in was season 5, and I think most of that was because of factors related to the truncated season.

I think SATC has fallen off some. It seems like Charlotte is the only character that's growing anymore. Well Miranda some too. Carie is still nowhere and they've taken any depth away from Samantha. She used to be portrtayed as a strong independent woman who knew hwat she wanted and wasn't afraid to get it. Now she just seems like a tramp that sleeps with men in exchang for the things she wants/needs. that's too bad because they could have done better with that character.

Xaa

PS I always pad HBO series. Every now and again they have long episodes.
