The Wire: "Hard Cases" **Spoilers**

Ugh, now I didn't need to see THAT wallpaper. If you saw the episode, you know what I mean.

Great episode, btw!

I liked the dinner scene. They overplayed it a bit, but it was very funny...

Yes, perhaps they should have told each other's wives!

That was hysterical! I thought he was putting some sort of virus on the computer. Maybe an STD... ;)

I'll take that scene in return for the scene with Nick's girlfriend. Beautiful breasts. I did find it funny that she had major tan lines.

I felt bad for Officer Russell when they went into the dockworker's bar. She seemed hurt when she had to approach Frank and "be one of the bad guys".

I'm really starting to like Frank. This character is deep and Chris Bauer is doing a phenomenal job playing him.

I'm also glad Kima and Herc are back. Kima kicks ass. Herc's comments regarding Carver provided for a nice uncomfortable moment with the Lieutenant. His comment to Prez was also classic. He helps to lighten the mood.

Overall, another fantastic episode. I can't find a flaw in this show.

MG, great call. That scene had me in stitches!

You won't find scenes like that on any other show. Kinda like the kitchen crime scene with Bunk and McNulty from season 1.

Have to agree with all the comments being made so far. No show is packing in the highlights like this one does. Just seeing Rawls and McNulty pass by each other in the hall was great stuff. I also think I’ve pretty much got all my names and relationships straight for the dock crew, which allows for much less “what was his name again?” and more enjoying the action. (Helps that I at minimum watch every episode at least twice)

Just to add my two cents Omar has to be approaching coolest character on summer television levels. He doesn’t even have to be in a scene to make it for me, just people talking about him. McNulty’s “I never lost him” line with Bunk was great, and the whole conversation in the car with Bubs also stellar. And Omar finally showing up shotgun in hand with his “Bubs the snitch” line capped it all off.

Coolest character on summer television? Nah, son. Omar is the baddest cat on television period.

Okay you're right, I may have undersold him a little bit. Now all I need is a little bit more of the whistling off in the distance...

I agree. I especially like the contrast from last's year's target, who was was a bona-fide bad guy. It seems that Frank has a good heart, and he's just caught up in something (of his own doing, mostly) that is getting out of control.

Question: It seems that after the wheeling and dealing between Daniels and Burrell, this new detail is permanent. Did I catch that right?

If so, why did Rawls let Freemon go? Even if the detail was temporary, I can't image Rawls letting one of his detectives go, especially since he has 13 cases to solve and (virtually) no leads.

There were some really funny scenes in this episode. In additions to on ones mentioned in previous posts, I like the scene at the docks when Freemon said that Horse was, "Pretty smart for a fat guy," and Bunk was like "Hey now!"

The thing that still gnaws at me is where is Frank getting all the money. Is all of it from the Greek? And if so, is all of the money to keep the wheels of the docks greased. I can't shake the feeling that Frank has something else going on.

And BTW, if I'm Nick, cousin or no, I throw a beating at Ziggy.

I think Frank get's the money from the union dues. That's where crooked union leaders usually get their money.

I'd be surprised if that were the case. It seems like Frank is all about the docks and the union, and whatever he has going on is done to keep the docks and the union going. Crooked union leaders typically embezzle union money to benefit themselves and other union leaders, and that doesn't appear to be happening in this case.

I too don't think Frank's money is coming from union dues. He does seem honest in that regard. Besides, didn't the police say at the beginning that he didn't have enough members to be flashing around that kind of money?

Watched it last night. I was also going to say that I like Frank, he seems concerned for his people and upset by bad things. I am wondering if he is not doing anything really wrong and this will come back around to someone else somehow.

My favorite line was from Bubs buddy when McNulty asked them to look for Omar - not word for word but - "Oh great, you want us to wander around looking for some crazy motherfu**er with a shotgun"

I wonder how the D story is going to play out. Right now it's the only thing that sticks out as not being part of the main story. He just comes up and pouts every week.

Great episode.

I have a few questions:

Is McNulty supposed to be investigating the one Jane Doe murder (the "floater") or is he doing that on his own time? I wasn't sure if that one case was his and the girls in the can were Bunk and Freamon's. I'm trying to figure out how McNulty is going to get involved with the detail if Rawls won't let him.

I didn't really hear the list of chemicals that the Greek wanted, but are we to assume that those are bomb-making chemicals?

1. It bothered McNulty that the girl he found would never be identified, so he decided to follow up on his own. All of the cases belong to Bunk/Freeman.

2. We don't know what the chemicals are for nor has anything been implied. I think at this point you're just supposed to get the impression that the dock kids have moved from petty stuff (the cameras) to serious stuff.

I am not sure that Bunk has the floater. I believe the floater is the harbor police case (or whatever they call it) since they have not officially connected her to the shipping can.

I could be wrong.

Nope, Bunk/Freemon have all 14 cases, including the floater. In fact, the floater was the first that McNulty "redirected" to his former department. Collateral damage, indeed!

I think he's probably mixed up in something with the Greek, doing the wrong things for the right reasons. He wants to rejuvenate the port, and he clearly cares about his men, but he has made some bad decisions.

Since Sex in the City ran long. I missed the end of the episode. Can some one fill me in.

Last I saw was where Freemon and company go to the union bar and confront sobaka. After that I have no clue recording stopped there. I didnt get any dialogue.

You didn't miss much.

Frank said he didn't recognize Freamon or Bunk and asked if they were from the port police. Freamon told Frank they were homicide. Frank asked who was killed. Bunk tells him the girls in the container. Frank says he thought that was an accident and Bunk tells him it wasn't. At that point Frank excuses himself to go to the bathroom. It cuts to the bathroom sink and Frank comes in and nearly pukes in it. He then splashes cold water on his face and tries to compose himself. He is scared/angry/confused and on the verge of tears. Once he calms himself he turns around and walks out of the bathroom. The camera focuses on a mural on the bathroom wall. End credits roll.
