Project Greenlight - Premier (SPOILERS)

I thought this was pretty entertaining. It cracked me up when J-Lo came down the stairs and how it totally threw the guy off during his interview. Affleck and Damon are a bit annoying, are they part of the whole season, or just the premier?
I really liked the short films the directors made, and I wish they had shown them in their entirety. What puzzled me is that the director team they chose seemed to have the most low-budget, corny submission of all the ones they showed. I much preferred the female director's "tracking" party scene, or the sanitarium scene with the guy holding the crucifix. Those just looked way more polished and professional. The two guys that won it didn't even use film, it looked like video tape. I just didn't get why they won, it wasn't explained very well.
As for the screenplays, I was hoping The Prisoner would win. That crazy arrogant screenwriter would have been fun to watch on the show. That other screenplay, about the crusades (right?), with all the storyboards, looked very cool. Did they say that was meant to be a computer animated movie? I'm surprised they even let that guy into the top ten, but I wanted to learn more about him and the screenplay. It was kind of frustrating that the whole selection process was just a one hour program, they could have at least given us a few episodes of this.

You can check out the director videos in their entirety on the web site www.projectgreenlight.com as well as read the screenplays, etc. They're pretty cool...especially the JFK one. During the first season, the web site was really great, with lots of indepth behind the scenes info (or, should that be behind the behind the scenes info?)
I'm not sure how, but I picked the winners of both screenplay and director contests as soon as they appeared for their pitch meetings.
Can't believe they have to premiere (or is it release?) the movie in August...that is FAST.
Should be fun...too bad Jeff Balis isn't along for the ride this season. Hopefully he'll have a cameo at least.

After watching the assignments at the website, Joe Otting is definitely my favorite, with Dagen Merrill a close second.

If J-lo walked into a room I was in, I would be distracted. Wouldn't you? Wouldn't pretty much any hetero male? Wouldn't pretty much anyone on the planet?

That's precisely why I thought it was so funny.

I was embarrassed for that guy when he acknowledged J-Lo. Acting star struck isn't a good move in a situation like that. I'm intrigued by this series but at the same time I'm irritated by the personalities involved. I didn't like how "industry" all of the submit-ors seemed, with their designer snow clothes and tiny cell phones--Ugh!. And there's something about industry types--especially those that consider themselves "creative" types--that annoy the **** out of me. They like to say that they're looking for fresh, edgy, original material yet they label everything with references to the same old pablum we see at the movie bunkers: "...it's kind of like Tarantino meets James Cameron with a touch of the Farelly brothers." Barf. It was just endless back slapping and ass kissing. I'm waiting for the dirty get-down-to-business part, when everyone is bitching about everyone and the fights begin. I can't believe they picked a director "team". It seems to be the in vogue thing right now: Wachowski, Coen, Farrelly. I consider them both half a director really. Affleck is so smug too, and for what reason? Everything he's involved with sucks. At least Matt Damon picks interesting projects. I can't believe he gets J-Lo.

I think Affleck might have *something* to say about Damon getting J-Lo -- considering Jennifer is engaged to Ben, and not Matt! ;)

I think he meant that and threw the "Damon picks interesting projects" think in the middle of the thought. I understood what he meant.

I swear I saw Jeff was in the previews for next week/season. I got the impression he is going to be involved in some way.

That would be cool. Last time I talked to him, maybe 18 months ago, he was sort of splitting off from LivePlanet (he'd started his own company, though it was still connected with LP in some way) so I assumed he wouldn't be involved. I hope I'm wrong.

I didn't watch the first Greenlight last year, but so far this one seems like it will be very cool in a "watching a car wreck" way. The directors really seem in over their head and while it's funny, I feel really bad for them. They win a contest and get a chance they may never get, but the process being caught on tape could ruin their careers.

I may be a little jaded when it come to reality TV, but I think the two director team may have been picked more for the potential of drama for the show than for their abilities. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are bad (they do some pretty good effects, but who can't now a days with all the software available), but I think they were up against better directors. I'll watch the show regardless.

Think we could keep the spoilers for the second episode out of the thread devoted to the premier?
Not trying to be mean; I just haven't watched the second episode yet, and checked in here to find out what somebody had to say about last week's episode.
