Amazing Race: Non-Elimination Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

For those of you who follow this much closer than me!

The wife says that the last clue in each show, the one that reveals where the pit stop is, also usually includes this statement: "The last team to arrive at the pit stop will be eliminated."

She also says that when it's a non-elimination round then that statement is omitted. So, if we assume thats true, viewers will always know in advance whether its an elimination round or not based on whether that statement is included in the clue.

Can that be true? I say that, if that were the case, after 3 seasons the teams would know this as well. So if I were running the race, and the last clue omitted that statement, then I'd just go check into a hotel and get a good nights sleep. Why rush to the pit stop?

Well, I'm kind of a novice at Amazing Race myself so my knowledge is limited.

But it seemed to me that the contestants have to stay at the pit stop for a fixed number of hours (I believe 12?). So if you arrive later, the earlier teams get more of a head start.

Exactly right. First to arrive - first to leave.

At least, by looking at some of the reactions from previous races - I don't think that the racers really know when an non-elimination leg will be. However, you should be able to do the math and figure it out.

I think only the viewers are told this.

Non-elimination legs typically occur when there are 5, 4, and 3 teams remaining. They have mixed up the order once, but typically there will alternate one non-elimination and one elimination leg until the final episode where 3 teams race to the finish.

This is correct. There are 4 non-elimination rounds, but one of them has always been the final episode (to leave 3 teams). These rounds have never occurred early, but with 7 teams left, they will show up soon.

I remember this because of one episode in TAR2 in which Blake and Paige clearly noticed that there was no comment regarding elimination.

As far as I'm aware ...

There are 2 non-elimination rounds each Amazing Race. And are nonspecific as to when but usually the latter half.

The "elimination" phrase is omitted on the "ticket" when it is an non-elim. round. If anyone has last nights episode you'll hear one of the racers read that "the last to arrive will be eliminated". That said ... the people at AR would not put it on the ticket if its not going to happen.

Now ... I've seen people in other races notice that it wasnt said on their ticket BUT their adrenaline is going so fast that they are NEVER ?sure?. So they race as if they it really is. Because I cant count how often someone read something wrong or assumed ...

Good show ... Go Clowns!!!

I wanna see a Model Cat-Fight!!! <meow.

Jas--

Edited: IS THERE 4 NON-ELIM's???

I would also venture a guess that they want to avoid a repeat of having a team 20 hours behind in Alaska as in the first season. The producers might be willing to drop a team if they fall to far behind and aren't a factor in the race anymore. If you force the teams to complete the legs in a decent amount of time then you can avoid this problem of course.

Another point is that isn't the statement "the last team to reach ... etc. etc." only on the final clue, so the teams only know whether its an elimination day or not for the last leg? This is typically a non-challenging 'now drive to the pit stop' instruction, so the teams really can't let up until the very end.

Even knowing it is non-elimination, you wouldn't necessarily let up. Some teams (or team members(see Flo)) let up when they know it is is an elimination leg.
