HDTV?

Any HDTV model of TiVo in the works? It's pretty tough to find a reasonably priced (<$45,000) HDTV VCR right now... a TiVo that could record DTV formats would be fantastic! It'll have to happen eventually ;-)

I think the biggest challenge is that HDTV would require a very large hard drive for a decent amount of storage. Of course, by the time there would be enough demand for an HDTV TiVo, a hard drive large enough to hold 30 hours would probably cost the same as the drives in current 30 hour TiVos.

I disagree... compressed video in HDTV format (or one of the lesser formats) is not substantially more than current compression. It could be done similar to the DirecTiVo model; maybe a couple of times larger. A 30 Gig drive could hold 15 hours of 720p or maybe 7 hours of 1080i. Quite reasonable.

Also, given the fact that an HDTV VCR is currently in the $40K+ range, and most TVs themselves are $3500 or more, I wouldn't mind spending $1000 for more or larger drives. I'm sure others would agree.
