The Wire -- Undertow (spoilers)

So, what did everyone think? I thought it was another fine episode. The gang is back together (minus McNulty). The one problem the show might run into is that they have been showing us the big picture, but will the detail have enough time to connect the dots? After all, they just have a name, and it looks like the street rips they are doing won’t land anywhere near Sobtaka. Smart move by Daniels, though, not letting the homicide investigation land on him.
But, most importantly, regarding next week’s episode:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Was that Bunk pulling a gun on McNulty? HFC!

It was hard to tell from the camera angle, but I think he was pulling it on himself.

I loved the white kids trying to be black kids...the scene where the docks loser was trying to dress down his subordinate was a hilarious parody of what Avon and Stringer do so well, and then having the crap beat out of him (and his car stolen!) by the REAL drug dealers had me in stitches.

For a minute there, I thought I was watching an episode of OZ!

I thought it was good again. I am still conflicted about Frank, he seems like a good guy and it seems likely that he is not 100% aware of what is going on, just getting paid off.
I have this feeling that the Major (the polish one) is going to get caught up in this somehow. I am also not clear how Avon and the gang end up merging back into the main story.
Having McNulty run around on his own is getting pretty frustrating.

Pure speculation, but...
Avon's crew needs product.
The Greek's crew is about to start making product.
Frank's crew is about to start stealing raw materials for The Greek's crew.
Daniel's crew is about to start surveillance on Frank's crew stealing the raw materials.
Connect the dots.
I think it is coming together rather nicely.

Yeah, once I saw that the chemicals were for the coke production and not for bombs, things became a bit clearer. Stringer might not have to cut S* with S* for too much longer.
There was at least one line from Bubbs that I replayed three times and still had no frickin clue what he said...he was by the boat with McNulty (shortly after eyeing the expensive grill)
Hopefully Method Man will become a regular character. His time on OZ was too short lived...

Bubbs had a lot of lines at that point. Was he on the boat? Before he got on? When?

It was either the first line he said to the cop who spoke to him as he was looking at the grill, or the first thing he said to McNulty. I don't think it was a crucial line, and a lot of what he says is barely intelligible, but I just couldn't figure it out.

That was a funny moment. He's looking at the grill like he really wants to steal it and says...
"Summit Silver 450. Top of the line right here." I had to turn on the CC to see what he said.
I loved his conversation with McNulty, especially the "Baltimore knot. It's never the same thing twice." Great line -- Second season, not the same as the first!

Agreed. But remember that HBO always makes the previews much more dramatic than what typically happens. It's probably just an out-of-context look at another one their nights out by the train tracks getting sloshed.

I agree, I wasn't saying anything was going to come of it. I was just saying that he looked as if he was pointing it at himself, not McNulty.

You're probably right. I still can't tell for sure given the camera angle.
This is a long shot, but consider this plot line: Bunk tries to commit suicide, an internal investigation is started, and the brass note that Rawls/Landman are running the homicide division straight into the ground, assigning two detectives and zero resources to 14 cases. Rawls is forced to resign, and McNulty gets off the boat at the end of the season. And he didn't even have to drown or quit!

There was one line in the show when Frank (I think it was Frank) mentioned that they were 'moving money through the docks'. I thought that it might mean that Frank was allowing the Greek to ship cash though in order to launder it somewhere else. It was just a quick line and could have meant that it was payoff for stealing stuff though.
Also, when I saw the preview for next week, I thought that Bunk had the gun pointed at himself. I think that will be just a short term scene meant to show how much pressure cops can be under.
This is a GREAT show. Each time I watch an installment, I wish it was 2 hours long. Or maybe 4 hrs. would better? :)

Another fine episode. I find myself hitting the play button after 45-50 minutes of the show. I love it so much I want to know when it is going to end so I don't feel too disappointed.
The Wire blows SFU and The Sopranos out of the water. The first season of SFU, The Sopranos, and Oz were groundbreaking. None of the following seasons have lived up to what they started. The first season of The Wire was good, this season has been phenomenal.

That's exactly what I do. I hit the button, I see that there is only 15 minutes left and I feel disappointed. The only other show I do that with is The Sopranos which I did not watch first time around.
