Am I the only one having these problems?

Recently, my TiVo has started doing two very odd and annoying things...

First, on channels which I receive via two sources (for example, Nik via basic cable and via DirecTV), if I try to record anything on the cable channel, it says it is going to record from the DirecTV channel number. In fact, if I start a recording on the cable channel, it says it is recording from the DirecTV channel number while it is still on the cable channel. I've never had this problem in the past, and it is annoying because I sometimes deliberately schedule recordings on the cable channel to leave the DirecTV receiver free to watch something else.

Second, for shows that air the same episodes on numerous days/times, I am unable to get a season pass to do anything but default to the first available showing of each episode - regardless of which day/time I select to initiate the season pass. As a result, it is impossible for me to set up a season pass that doesn't conflict with other items on the To Do list, despite the fact that the show in question is available at a non-conflicting day-time.

I've been a TiVo user since Nov. '99, and I've never had either of these issues. Has there been a software revision recently? Is no one else having these problems? Is everyone else having these problems and I have missed the related threads?

Thanks....

If this problem appeared suddenly, which it sounds like it did, your best initial course of action is:
1) reboot (disconnect power, wait several seconds, reconnect power)
2) repeat Guided Setup and re-specify your channel sources

For the season pass problem, that sounds like normal behavior. The only way for the season pass to pick a different showing would be to have a higher priority recording conflict. Make sure you don't have the season pass set for First Run Only.

Yes, the season pass is acting normally. Thats one of my only gripes with Tivo...conflict resolution. If Tivo took what they have now and add everything that Ultimate TV had (Choose which program you didn't want to record for dual tuners, not just the first one on the list, among other things) and added a little more bite in the show searching, like if Show A ep. 1 was conflicting with show B eps 6 look for another showing of Show A eps 1 to record later, of course this wouldn't work for shows with bad guide data, but Tivo can't be held accountable for that.

Rebooting was the first thing I tried - repeating Guided Setup seems like the next logical course of action.....

The season pass issue is normal behavior? Maybe I've never set up something similar before and therefore just never encountered it. I'll try it again, and be mindful of the "First Run" setting.

Thanks all.

OK, I don't have two programming sources, so I *could* be wrong, but it sounds like something that happens even when you have only one programming source. Am I correct that, for example, the DirecTV channel number is a LOWER number than the cable number for the same channel? Tivo automatically defaults to the LOWEST number for the same channel, for example, on DishNetwork in Los Angeles, KTLA is available as Channel 232 and also as 8004, and even if I set a recording on 8004, it would default to 232. Resolution: go to "channels you receive" and uncheck the lower numbered channels from the DirecTV that you receive through cable. If you need to record something through satellite, you can always go back and change it pretty quickly.

As for your second problem, that's been happening for as long as I can remember, it isn't new software. But there is a resolution, although it'll take a little work. You need to adjust your season passes through your season pass manager. For example, I record the various space programs on the Science Channel that broadcast on Friday evenings. I have season passes to them, but I also have season passes to Seinfeld, Twilight Zone, etc. Since the Science Channel programs come on multiple times during a 24 hour period, I rate the other programs higher, so they get recording priority. Then the machine will automatically record Seinfeld and TZ, and defer the recording on the programs with multiple showings. It doesn't matter which showing you use to select your season pass, adjusting the priority of those season passes will solve your problem.
