hi all.
i've a direcTivo hughes, 40G+120G. one of the drives
is going bad, (i don't know which one yet...). i'm getting
pixelation, and frame drops, AND i hear a clicking noise
from one of the drives right after i see the problem.
a couple of questions to you all...
i pay the extra $5/month for hardware replacement, (my dish is really high up on my roof, and i hate going up there :^)).
1. how can i tell which drive is going bad?
2. how do i unmarry the 2nd drive that i added to my tivo.
3. does this sound like a good plan? if it's the 120G going bad, i'll just replace the HD myself. if it's the 40G, i'll have direcTV send me a new tivo.
thanks all!
michel...

1. Put the drives in your PC and test with PowerMax or whatever software is appropriate given the brand of the 120. You can't always tell for sure, but usually one will show problems.
2. You don't really need to - if you the problem is the 40, just send it back with only the 40. It wont boot, and they'll replace the drive.
3. This is a good plan - but just check the drive you get back if you send in the TiVo. They sometimes use refurbished drives in warranty repairs. If that's what you get, consider going with the 120 only.
