Justice League-Twilight (tagged spoilers)

Three simple words: Best Episodes Ever. Maybe JL is finally getting into a stride (I doubt it, but I can hope). I loved how they weren't afraid to build on previous episodes of Superman (that's all I'm saying without spoiler tags).

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

I was quite shocked at some of the changes to the JL universe that took place. Dasaad is dead, apparently. There's going to be little comradere between Supers and Batman now. And if Darksied survived (of course he does, somehow), the loss of that Sky City might upset the balance of power, putting Darksied ahead.

Aside from storyline, I loved how they continue to remember (the one thing they always seem to get right) that Batman is the most important character in JL. He got the best lines (although some a little too funny to really be in character), got to save the day (twice), and is the only one with the guts to stand up to Supes.

Just a side note--I know Michael Ironsides has been doing the voice of Darksied for years, but it was so tought getting past the notion that Darksied is also Sam Fisher. :)

Yeah, I enjoyed these two episodes. I thought the giant monster that threatened Wonder Woman and Jonn Jonzz looked particularly Jack Kirby-like. Nice tribute to the man who invented Darkseid and the New Gods.

I also like the way Supes swatted Bats away, then Bats goes and gets even with the Boom Tube. The "Next time I let Superman be in charge, hit me..." line was classic.

I havent watched them yet ... their on the TiVo ... Is Twilight the beginning of the new season?

I thought it started the same night that Teen Titans Started!?

Posted by: doom1701

Malachi, according to Epguides, Twilight is the first ep of the new season--but they say it's the first ep of season 2! I'm really lost when it comes to this show's season breaks.

Posted by: linh

Is there an upcoming repeat of the "Twilight" episode? I'm not seeing it in the Tivo Guide Data.

I also thought that one of the Metropolis buildings in the Superman episodes looked like the Hall of Justice.

I liked Hawkgirl's line, "Maybe this should be the Just-Us League."

Speaking of Hawkgirl, does she have any superpowers? She has her wings and her seemingly all-powerful mace, but what else? In the comics, she and Hawkman were just "plain ordinary" law enforcement officers from Thanagar.

Posted by: doom1701

I've never noticed any superpowers, but she does seem to hang out with "the big boys". Personally, I think she's the weakest of the crew (character-wise; which, BTW, I know is a terrible grammatical flaw).

I wasn't impressed. It was fun, sure, but nothing new. From the hype I was expecting this awesome series with the whole cast. But it was a pretty straightforward story.

I'm not sure, but I had the impression that Hawkman and Hawkgirl were stronger than Batman, but weaker than Aquaman. Of course, if you have a BFM, what more do you need?

BFM = Big Mace.

And the cool wings. Don't forget the wings.

There is actually a great essay on the web(and I lost the URL)about how Batman should not be a member of the JLA. I.E. He has no real powers, he's just a gadget guy. As a Batman fan I took this as heresy but it's a good read and If anyone knows where it is please let me know.

That's why I love what JL is doing with Batman--making him basically the core member. Without him, the JL would fall apart (not to mention they'd all probably be dead). You see the other heros relying on their powers almost like a crutch, while Batman saves the day with his humanity.

The thing about Bats is that he is never, ever, wrong when it comes to fighting bad guys. He is the ultimate strategist and leader. Chirst, even Superman is scared of him!

In the most recent issue of Spiderman, Peter tells Mary Jane that all the superheroes keep an eye on each other, and inside they devise strategies to beat each other if they go bad. Batman did the same in Justice League (the comic), and his plans get stolen by Ras Al Ghul, and the Justice League gets taken down.

Sidetrack: Did you enjoy the discussion a few issues ago in Spider-man about which is his most important power?

I missed this. What was the gist of it?

For the first few pages Peter is fighting the villain. And as he usually does he's talking to himself about what his most important power is, he says that most people say it's his spider sense. However he believes it's a toss up b/w that and his scientists mind. For example he says, the villain he is fighting is green, and he needs to determine what that means. The next panel Peter gets knocked through three walls and the comment is "That's what I was afraid of. Hulk Green"

I've thought that if I were a superhero, I'd want some plan to take down the more powerful heros like Superman, GL, and Flash (the comics version is MUCH faster & more powerful than he is in the toons). Considering how devastating the Bat-Plans were, I'd add him to my list!

Batman rules!

As a side note, anyone know how to submit a story to DC? I've had some great ideas for a Alfred mini-series percolating in my brain.

Posted by: Graymalkin

You have to know someone. They generally don't open unsolicited manuscripts, for legal reasons. (They don't want to be accused of ripping off someone's ideas.)

In 1975, I was living in Israel and spending about $75 a month to have comics shipped to me. I wrote to Marvel about how to become a writer, and I got a response from Bill Mantlo, one of their journeymen writers, telling me that it was extremely difficult to break into the business, especially from overseas. But he also included a script from one of the Spider-Man issues he had written, to show how it needed to be done.

Thus encouraged, I wrote and sent to him a three-issue script for Iron Man, featuring a new Israeli supervillain. (Not evil, mind you, just misguided.) I called him Sabra because he shot explosive spines out of his armor, which was powered by advanced solar technology. (Sabra is Hebrew for cactus and is commonly used to refer to native Israelis, who are "prickly on the outside but soft on the inside.")

I never heard back from Bill or Marvel. Sometime later, Bill created, for the "Secret Wars" miniseries (I think) an Israeli superheroine, Sabra, who shot spines out of her blue cape.

H'mm...

OK, someone here writes for comics: I just can't remember who. Do you guys remember?

Since we are on the subject of Comics ... what with the more recent superheroes making it to the big screen and all the "well done" toons. My childhood interest in comics has peeked again.

Now I dont wanna become a collector "persay" ... Meaning; I dont need Superman #1 in origainl dust cover. I just want to start some where ... where I dont have to catch up alot ... Any suggestions??? Guys???

I am a fan of the usuals:
Spidey
Superman
Justice League
Green Lantern
Batman
X-Men

I was also was a fan way back when of:
Blade
and yes ... The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book
Iron Man
Punisher

Anyone reccomend any websites of, like, character historys and "what not"???

Anyways ... just thought I'd ask!Thanx!

Well, in the last 3 years they have come out with a new Spiderman comic called Ultimate Spiderman. All the Marvel "Ultimate" titles are set in a parrallel universe, and have not crossed with the mainstream Marvel. Ultimate Spiderman was what the movie was loosely based on. You can check out the first issues collected in graphic novel form at any large book store.

Batman is enjoying popularity also, with Jim Lee providing art.

You might want to try looking at The Authority: Relentless and The Authority: Under New Management trade paperbacks. It's a take on what would happen if a group of superheroes(like the JLA) decided they really wanted to change the world

I don't read a lot of comics but I read this series (The JLA) and it was a good story.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I liked how to win their trust back Superman and Batman had to come clean on their alter-ego to the other members of JLA.)

I don't think I got this episode. My TiVo picked up the 2 episodes that dealt with Brainiac, Darkside and such. I wonder why it didn't record this new one???
