That was great... whenever they refer to the "straight people" my wife always goes "I see straight people" (referring to The Sixth Sense)

Mine showed QEFTSG at 9p (central) on NBC this morning. According to my guide, it's the same episode they're airing on Bravo at the same time.

Then again, it looks like Bravo has updated its schedule.

Today's Showbuzz at CNN.com says:

The stars of Bravo's breakthrough reality series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," who have become a staple on the talk show circuit in the past few weeks, will appear on an episode of the NBC comedy "Good Morning, Miami."

The Fab Five -- Carson Kressley (fashion), Thom Filicia (interior design), Ted Allen (food and wine), Kyan Douglas (grooming) and Jai Rodriguez (culture) -- will guest star as themselves in the second episode of "Good Morning Miami's" upcoming second season. The episode, which will also feature guest stars Jillian Barberie and Tiffani Thiessen, is scheduled to air October 7.

hmmm... Well, I made the call last night... I checked shortly after the call was complete.. I then checked again this morning before going to work.. It was still showing ER.

Oh well.. No big deal.. I'll be home at that time, so I can watch it live or just tell it to record that episode of ER (I have an ER SP, but it is FRO)

Too fun!

I got Thom:

Of course there is no bad answer on this quiz. :D

I don't think Thom would be very happy with me, though. I need his help pretty badly. :(

That would be Carson, though I think Thom or the food&wine guy is more someone I'd be likely to hang out with.

Posted by: dthmj

Hmmmmm... Carson would die if he looked in our closets... basically because there is nothing there.. everythign is in the dirty clothes, we wash what we need the night before. But, if anything does make it into the closet, it's t-shirts and jeans.http://images.quizilla.com/L/lizza09/1060177899_carson.jpg

It's in my Recording History (not recorded because of 28-day rule since I got the original on Bravo). It's the same episode Bravo aired this week, "John Verdi" the NY Port Authority cop.

P.S. I've got a SA.

Jan

Posted by: Uther

The first episode I've seen was the one with Verdi, the cop...

Do they always turn the straight guy into a gay guy by the end of the show? The guy was acting like a little girl after the Fab 5 left!

Have you seen the first episode? Carson used that line when animating a puppet. To date, it was the one line of the show that made me laugh hardest.

...although the "voting" line and the "Kmart" line were classic too.

Ahhh... Kyan... *swoon*

edit: DARN! I wasted my number-of-the-beast post.

Posted by: Fleegle

I just got around to wtching this last night. I laughed my ass off.

I think he was trying to be "Macho Cop" when teh fab 5 were around, but when he was alone with his girlfriend, he was his usual self.

My vote for zinger of the night, from George's episode:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

Posted by: doom1701

Apparently Kyan is my type, but I'm not really in the mood for a lifestyle change right now. :D

Even me, Mr. No Modesty Homo Boi, was blushing last night at some of the things Carson said...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I was pulling something else...

And that's what make this show SO F'ing fabulous! He was a MAJOR change. He went from hideous to pretty good looking!

BTW, I am starting to get REALLY jealous of all these straight guys. I want someone to come in and buy ME all this AMAZINGLY wonderful stuff! ;)

I'd settle for just the shopping trips. Easier on the ego. :D

They ought to have downloadable motivational posters from the Fab 5. Instead of dorky pictures of kittens holding on to dear life with captions like "Courage" or whatever, you could just slap a big sign on your fridge in QE colors that said OH MY GOD or I THINK WE FOUND THE CULTURE to remind you to clean it. ;)

I really wouldn't want Thom Filicia to see my LR, which is a mixture of Early Cheap Landlord, Graduate Student, and Office Depot. He deserves better. :(

Jan

Posted by: dthmj

What I really like about this show, is that even when at the beginning when they are really ragging on a guy, it's not "oh what a horrible slob you are..." it's all about how the guy deserves to live better. They really make fun of you in a positive way...

My pessimistic side keeps expecting the show to get stale or repetitive, but it's just the reverse. Whether they're scripted or not (I don't care), Carson keeps coming up with killer line after killer line, and the rest of the guys just keep getting better, too. Top of the SP list, and holding...

And if you manage to lure the gang down to Austin, be sure to send them over to H-town when you're done so the rest of us can have a go, for a lot of reasons. ;) "Queer Eye for the Texas Guy?"

It's only a matter of time before we see "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: Road Trip".

Posted by: esperantisto

My mom said they were on the MTV awards...

Posted by: pmyers

I think one thing that would make this show even better (if it's possible) if at the end when the Fab5 leave and are watching....if they were to give the straight guy a text pager. I'd love for them to be able to send last minute hints/clues/ideas. Like them being able to tell George that that girl totally wanted him.....or to put the belt through the darn holes ;)

Posted by: WinBear

I think the Fab5 are watching an edited version of the "event" and any feedback would be a little late, but probably still appreciated.

that is true. Obviously they aren't watching it live because the tape always starts right from where they left him.

Posted by: TampaThunder

That Thom is a great actor. He also plays the part of Rocco in The Restaurant! :D

And the stuff they get away with on this show is amazing. That glory hole reference on the 1st or 2nd show still has me shaking my head.

I'd love to see Carson on a sitcom. The man is flat out hilarious.

I'd thought I'd hate this show but I was hooked five minutes in.

Last time I looked, Pottery Barn still had plenty of stuff. ;)

The trick is finding somebody with the genius of Thom Filicia to help you clarify what you really want. And that's not common. :(

Coming into the thread late... Some thoughts...
I love the show. I don't think there will be "backlash" but I do think that gay people are getting a bit overexposed. However, I don't think that's a bad thing.

LOVE Carson. He's a hoot.

I want to see "Queer Eye for the Straight Gal" where a bunch of lesbians come in and teach a woman how to do basic house repair, or maybe build a back deck or something. Sure, full of stereotypes. But that's the fun. :D

Posted by: JerryK

My wife and I have loved this show since the premiere, but I've always thought that Jai is pretty much useless.

Just my opinion. Anyone else agree?

Posted by: kiljoy

Depends on the situation. It's hard to tell someone how to work a room of strangers, but he did well in Brian's ep. When it's just the straight guy and his wife/gf, though, what advice could he possibly offer?

The Culture guy never gets any respect. :(

Jai's got the hardest gig on the show. He has to cover all sorts of diverse things, none of which are visual, so the results don't show well on TV.

Also have to give a  to Blair. Picking out the pearl earrings to match the pearl necklace for Adam's wife was NOT a trivial task. I've done it myself, so I know.

Give Jai credit. He has to be confidence-boosting guy, CD shopper, book shopper, dance instructor, polyglot, visual designer and PR guy (Brian's take-away cards), all sorts of different things. And none of them have any impact on screen, not compared to Thom's and Carson's gig.

Thom and Carson are always going to have the most breath-taking parts of the show, because their stuff shows up well on TV. We can relate to Ted and Kyan because we all have to eat sometime and we all have to deal with bad hair.

Watch how Jai is good about getting the victim to open up and talk about himself and what he hopes to get out of the make-better. I suspect that happens in every case, and in most episodes, it ends up on the cutting-room floor. But it's a crucial part of the process, and I bet the make-betters would not be nearly as successful if we only had the Fab4.

Quote of the Night from Thom Filicia:

"I can't believe I'm going to say this, 'cause it's not something I say every day in my line of work, but my favorite thing in your living room -- is your fire hydrant. Go figure."

:D

Thom gets off several good zingers tonight but that's my favorite.

Jan

Posted by: Animgif

OMG, another FAB show! My favorite line went something like "Carson, you realize wer're in some stranger's bed." Carson: "Ahhh, feels like old times!"

I was DYING...I played that line over and over!

Who hasn't given Adam's wife a pearl necklace???

sorry couldn't resist.

Posted by: thehepcat

My favorite line (also from Carson) was from the first episode "Show me on the doll where the bad man touched you" - after trying to tuck in the guy's shirt.

My favorite is Thom though. Can't go wrong with a Syracuse Alum.

Loved the bit about shopping for size 14 shoes in Soho. Josh was a good good good sport, and Jai got to do a lot of fun things, too.

Carson is amazing.

"... you would have thought I was asking for, you know, the head of Latoya Jackson on a plate ... "

He's not kidding. It's like that when you ask for a rare size at the shoe store. I am so impressed he was able to find all those shoes.

LOVE the show!

But what was going on with Carson's hair at the end of the show... looked like a bad perm!! LOL

Posted by: King Ghidorah

His hair did look awful! I'm surprised Kyan didn't start going off on him.

Carson is so funny though. I find myself laughing out-loud, which is really embarrassing!

Oh well, it is a great show and I hope it continues to do well!

This from today's IMDB news:

quote:
Original 'Queer Eye' Guy Sues Producers

Blair Boone, one of the original members of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's makeover team, is suing the show's producers after he was dumped following the second episode and replaced by Jai Rodriguez, the New York Post reported today (Wednesday). The newspaper said that Boone, who earned $3,000 for each of the two shows on which he appeared, is demanding that he be paid a full production year of 35 episodes -- or $105,000. Boone told the Daily News that he became particularly upset after he learned that the "Fab Five" had signed a $1-million book deal. "When I see the million-dollar book deal," he told the newspaper, "I have to clench my teeth -- that's what I expected to see and [to] be a part of.

You know what shocks me most out of this whole story? The thought that the Fab Five get paid only $3,000 each per episode.

I'm willing to bet they renegotiate contracts next year. :)

Posted by: Connie

When it was a 'little' show that was going to appear on a minor cable channel, $3K per may have seemed like major money!

Exactly...I don't think Bravo EVER imagined this would be SUCH SUCH SUCH a hit!

Posted by: cello

I have watched a few episodes, and I'm in love.

On the stereotype thing: Sure, they fit the stereotype, and sure, not all gay men fit that stereotype. I see it as playful and in good fun, and even a bit of reclaiming. If someone makes fun of you, you can become upset and angry, or you can be proud of who you are and even make fun of yourself. I think that by either casting flaming guys, or having the men accentuate the stereotypes (whichever way they came to have a flaming cast), they're just having fun.

And I agree about the respect they show the straight guys on the show. Kind of the same reason while I'll always like a Vern room more than a Hildi room on Trading Spaces - regardless of the outcome, I'm gonna favor the person who has the best interests of the client in mind when they undertake such a project. They're a group of nice guys having fun, and doing things we all want them to do for us. That the show is a big hit is really a no-brainer!

I found it so funny though the way John V (#108) acted so "butch" around the Fab 5, but alone with his girlfriend was bordering on the "stereotypically queeny" side... well, maybe it's better said to be "gentle and considerate" but that doesn't go quite far enough to describe it properly. :)

And I think it's safe to speculate that Carson's importance to success and humor of the show has been noticed as well. I'm sure we can already imagine future projects and appearances on the drawing board for Carson, so I certainly hope that he has an insightful and clever agent/manager--or gets one.

I love this show too! What surprised me was that I like all the cast members! No one there seems out of place, and when each is doing his individual bit, that person really seems in charge of it. What a great mix of personalities. Though sometimes I think Jai doesn't have enough to do, "culture specialist" seems a bit difficult to define. I couldn't pick a favorite of the Fab 5, though Carson is the funniest, they all shine in their own moments. Whoever decided on the show's structure, to have them view the results together at the end, made a great choice. It's obvious then their affection for their made-over guy, even if they see some errors. The show has both wit and heart. Let's hope they can all stick with it in this mode and avoid becoming just a short-lived trendy show.

Posted by: doom1701

I like Carson (not in that way, silly), but I think that Ted and Jai are kinda the show's "glue". Like Jan said, Jai has a lot of emotional backbone kind of work to do, which often doesn't get shown. And Mr. Closet Hetro just gives the show a dose of reality and sarcasm.

I've got to wonder how much work Thom really does--we always see him in the fast forwards painting, hanging wallpaper, etc. But you know he's not doing it all himself--is he just in these shots, and then the crew comes in, or does he do most of the work with off camera help?

Posted by: scottjf8

Ted's got a great radio voice.. I can see (or hear I guess) him doing a radio show one day, maybe similar to Emril.....

And I love the name Kyan...

Posted by: Gunnyman2k3

Watching Jai teaching the guy how to dance had me rolling!
The home transformations have been more incredible for me than the madeover guys.
Most guys clean up really well ( except for me) what Thom and the crew have been able to do with some of the real dumps they have found really impress me.

I keep writing Bravo suggesting Queer Eye on Location.
I can imagine how GREAT the fab five would be running around my city of Beautiful Downtown Greenville SC.

I would volunteer my house of course. I even have room for their winnebago.

Has anyone heard more on why Blair didn't work out? Jai's so perfect, I can't imagine anyone else in the 5... But what exactly happened to Blair?

As for episodes, the most recent episode, with Josh Diaz, was my least favorite. Not a problem though. They'll make more. :D

Posted by: murgatroyd

Now there's an interesting comment -- what makes an episode someone's favorite or least favorite? I mean, how do you pick? Is the least favorite bad in some way, or just lacking in all the zingers and good stuff that makes the good ones good?

I think the least favorite for me has to be the "Make Room For Lisa" episode, just because Lisa herself was so obnoxious.

Most favorite is still Butch --> Brian or "Hair Today, Art Tomorrow", because of all the 'victims' I feel he was most into it, and the makeover of his place is still in many ways the most dramatic. Of course it's got that extra zing because it's the first show they aired, thus it was the one where we met the Fab 5.

It's kind of a drag that they gave up on the witty episode titles.

For me, I just wasn't into Josh. The wife & I agreed, in our opinion, he didn't look all that good even after getting cleaned up... As in, his clothes weren't workin' for us and the hair... Less "Kramer," but still bad.

As for that nightclub, where do I even begin? Any "nightclub" that you can bring your mother into isn't really a nightclub. Even post-makeover, I don't think that couple is getting into the kind of clubs with bouncers and ropes, as the episode implied by showing some burly guy pulling the ropes for them to walk by. Seeing the people inside, I wonder what the criteria for entrance there is... $6 and a pulse?

Good episodes = Cooperative guys with hot condos and cute GFs/Wives
Examples... The guy who proposed in the garden. The pilot episode with Butch/Brian the artist. And also the very recent episode with the sweet Greek guy with long 80s hair.

Bad episodes = "Beyond help" guys, dumpy apartments and frumpy significant others.
Examples... Josh the dancer. The Jewish Long Islander in the filthy house, with the toys all over the place. And the beforementioned "Making Room for Lisa."

Lisa did come across very poorly, but I still really liked that episode because Tom had a relatively high temperature.

Josh was a little lame. But lame QE is heads and tails above pretty much everything on television. It would have worked better if A) we could have seen more of his dancing training (it was mainly playing for the camera), B) we could have seen his facial transformation, and/or C) he could have danced at the end. My wife and I couldn't watch the end--we just listed to the comments with our eyes closed.

I really think the ending makes the show--just look at the eps that people have already mentioned as "weak"--the one with the $150 crap on a cracker incident at the end, the one with the hooker from Trenton, and now the one with the kiddie nightclub and the guy who can't dance. We'll still be quoting lines from each ep for years, but the ending kinda sours the memory.

I'm pretty sure Blair's departure was covered in one of the articles linked earlier in the thread. I also think it was just 'the chemistry wasn't right'

It's too bad for him, but filing a suit to get part of a book deal? That's pretty lame. Maybe that's why the chemistry wasn't right.

Perhaps the rather tame nightclub was the only place they could get permission to film in -- remember these were filmed before the show was known widely. They'd have much less trouble getting an A list disco to allow filming now!

Posted by: pmyers

what was up with his "water sprinkler" dance move? I know Jai didn't teach him that one. I was waiting for the "running man".

Posted by: KRS

I liked all the references to the guy's "tomato" plants ("I used to have a t-shirt with a tomato plant leaf on it").

My wife was in total agreement with someone's observation that a hot oil treatment wouldn't be out of the question for the girlfriend of Mr. Big 'n Tall.

What I'd like to see would be a follow up maybe a month later to see how these people are doing with their makeovers.

Posted by: pmyers

that would be an awesome way to end the season

His girlfriend was pretty cute, but she has to avoid smiling widely. Showing way too much gumline there.

Yup, I shudder at the thought of the FAB 5 making comments about my place too.

If you're amused by catty and funny remarks about decor, check out the "Obscene Interiors" section of www.justinspace.com where the nudity has been carefully removed in Photoshop from amateur snapshots (safe for work), leaving the backgrounds to be critiqued by the designers.

Queer Eye is a great show! I find myself really looking forward to the new episodes. Dare I even say that I enjoy it so much that I ... gasp... watch it live!

Did anyone get the "Tom Minogue" episode? When I finally sat down to watch it, I found that it was Adam Zalta ( "A Great Mess in Great Neck" ). I manually added another episode labelled "Tom Minogue" in the guide data, and again it was the unibrow.

Mine was messed up too...I manually added "Tom Minogue" for tonight at midnight because the promos played during West Wing last week all said that a new one was coming up this week.

Same thing here.. I noticed it was the old one right away since Blair was in it (yet Jai was in the credits)

Posted by: Gunnyman2k3

I want to see the Tom one again as well after reading the Straight Eye for the Queer Show synopsis.

Comedy gold!

Posted by: grins

Wait, does that mean you saw a Tom Minogue episode, Gunnyman?

Posted by: murgatroyd

^bump^

Just added "Tom Minogue" manually for tonight, since it got whacked by the 28-day rule (first time around Guide Data said TM, show was actually Adam Zalta).

Jan

Posted by: grins

Murg, I've recorded 2 episodes last week that we're "Tom Minogue" in the guide data, and both were Adam Zalta in reality. Do you have reason to think that tonight's is not Adam Zalta?

Bravo's been running a lot of a commercials in the last week for tonight's episode, and it does appear to be the new episode with Tom Minogue.

Posted by: Gunnyman2k3

No, sorry for the confusion :(

I just realized the Tom Minogue episode isn't the tom one I was thinking of.
I wish Queer Eye hadn't changed the naming of episodes from the descriptive names they 1st used to the name of the guy they are fixing up.

I THOUGHT the Tom Minogue episode was the Make room for Lisa episode renamed.
:(
That Tom's name is Tom Kaden

I GOTTA see make room for Lisa again.
If I make a wishlist for that will Tivo ignore the 28 day rule?

Posted by: Graymalkin

Thanks for the head's up. I hope Bravo is not going to ruin this show by screwing up the show descriptions!

It was definitely Tom Minogue last night!

Loved what they did with the apartment!

Can't believe the guy wanted to save that bar. I mean, I have ugly furniture I'm fond of, too, but -- Eeek!

Bravo has listed several 1/2 hour Queer Eyes over the next couple of weeks, any idea what they are?

Featuring what -- the Fab 2-1/2?

Posted by: murgatroyd

I don't know why Bravo would want to do this, but from the Guide Data it appears they are re-running the 1/2 hour version of the show with Brian which aired on NBC.

I think the best thing to do is to check QE's own website for more details.

Did anyone catch the Fab 5 on Oprah today?

They did a nice job and had the whole hour, each guy working his magic on pre-arranged husbands/boyfriends of viewers. It was a much more flattering team appearance than on Leno, as Oprah's production team obviously put some time and thought into it and made it work nicely into the format of her own show.

Oprah and her studio audience were obviously big fans of the show. The studio audience probably went home with a headache and hoarse voices after all the screaming.

I normally don't TiVo her show, but I was running late for work this morning and caught a promo for it. I had every intention of posting an alert about it, but got distracted at work and totally forgot about it. Sorry. :(

Posted by: cello

I also enjoyed it. An Oprah audience going away with hoarse voices is pretty much par for the course. (I TiVo it every day and watch many of the episodes - I really like her interviews, if I'm in the mood for celebrity stuff.)

Posted by: Patchwork

In case anyone is interested, you can watch about ten minutes of streaming video from Oprah's "After Show" where she interviewed the Fab 5, as well as another video and see a few photos.

My keyword wishlist for "Queer Eye" (which I set up to catch Fab 5 appearances on other shows) picked this up.

I'm hoping it will also catch anything on the 'After the Show' segments which run on Oxygen.

Jan

Posted by: murgatroyd

BTW, I just got TV Guide in the mail (Sep 27 issue) and if you look in the Insider section, there's an interesting bit of QE trivia.

They quote Jesse Sheidlower, the North American editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. He's seen it spelled "zhushing" or as "jazhing".

"I've seen it both ways ... the word goes back a long way in gay slang. It usually refers to making something very striking, or flamboyant, in a fashion sort of way."

Can I ask how did you set up a keyword list? I did the same and it didn't pick it up..

I saw the Bryan/Butch episode on the 30 minute format on Bravo yesterday. I actually very much enjoyed the shortened format. Then again my attention span is notoriously short...

Posted by: Gunnyman2k3

I think it felt a little rushed myself.

I think the 30 min shows are ok for people who have seen the original hour but a 30 minute format would be a bad thing IMHO.

I've only seen the Butch episode in the 30 minute format (on NBC). I'd love to see the hour long version.

Posted by: DLiquid

I thought the 30 minute format was way too rushed.

For the first time (I've only seen a few episodes), I also thought they made the guy look worse. Maybe not worse, but they made him look like every other thirty-something guy, which I don't think is necessarily a good thing for an artist. I thought they could have done something about the long hair and beard without going for the trendy short haircut and goatee look. He looked like he was ready to guest star on Friends, not host an art show. :p

I'm sure this has been discussed already in the thread, but can someone tell me if they really do all of this stuff in a single day? How is that even possible?

Posted by: Fustanella

Heard somewhere that it's 3-4 days, not the one pictured on the telly.

Create New Wishlist / Keyword Wishlist (note NOT title)
enter via Ouija board "QUEER EYE" (with the quotes)
set wishlist to Auto-Record

This matched on the Oprah description:

The men from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" give viewers makeovers.

IIRC, it will not match on a description like this:

... interview with Queer Eye's Thom Filicia ...

For that you need to do "Queer Eye*".

I have a standalone S1. Do you have a DirecTiVo? sometimes the Guide Data streams can be quite different.

Looks like my local station is repeating the episode on 9.30 at 1:06 am, so if your station does repeats, search for Oprah by title and look at the late-night repeats to see if you have guide data for those.

BTW, Oxygen's Oprah After the Show only has generic guide data so I set up to record it KAM=1. I'll just look at each one and toss it immediately if it doesn't have the Fab5 in it.

Edited to add: I got the Fab5 on the After the Show last night, but the segment ran longer than the time slot in the guide data. I have most of the show, I guess, but the show starts before the TiVo started recording. (The end of the recording has a group hug at the end and credits).

The show came up in family conversation last weekend. I love my father but he's not known for his tolerance. Interesting perspective there. ;)

It's not clear from my original post, I guess. This is a repeat of the main show, not the after-the-show interviews. Check your Guide Data for repeats in your area.

Did you all see Allen from last night?

That one hurt to watch. I had to turn it off after the mint julep fiasco, when the wine guy (Tom? What's his name?) said that he felt useless. :( That guy was so sad. Seemed to me like he had some sort of odd mental/psychological disorder - especially after he broke the vintage glasses and started talking about how this is why he has nothing nice.

Was a little "Psycho!" "Eeee! Eeeee! Eeeee!" stabbing moment to me... He seemed nuts. Poor kid.

The last 15 minutes of this episode I was laughing almost non-stop. That was probably the funniest 15 minutes of TV I've seen all year. I'm laughing right now just thinking about it. How Allen was sweating buckets, wiping his face on a towel he kept using to wipe down the food area. How there was that awkward moment of silence between the parents, and then the guys did a reenactment of the awkward moment in their studio. Too funny. :D

I kind of noticed this as well. I remember when Jay Leno had them on, Jay looked really uncomfortable with the gay guys, shying away when they were putting their arms around his shoulders or whatever. On last night's show, at one point Allen was in the car with two of the Fab 5, and one of them (Carson, I think) had his hands on the straight guy's shoulders and mentioned that he was a little tense. But it wasn't because he was being touched by a gay man, it was because they were taking him out to buy things -- it's like he had a problem spending money and that was making him uncomfortable.

I also feel kind of sorry for the women who are dating these guys, based on the "before" and in Allen's case, the "after" -- that poor lady seemed really together and she could probably do much better, but she was going out with this guy who never bought her anything.

Totally agree. I was so disappointed in the episode, until that last 15 minutes. My wife and I were laughing so hard we had to rewind several times.

I was real disappointed with the Oprah show with them. She hardly, if at all, ask about "them". I wanted an interview, not them doing "their" show on "her" show. And Leno made me switch to Letterman (as a fan). After all they did for that old awful Leno set, Leno was rude and wasn’t going to let it remain. If Leno feels its "his, only his" show, why do he invite them to remake it???? Leno just had a pissy attitude about it/them. And thats strange since I know he's not homophobic in real life. Was he playing for his straight male audience?

As to the Fab5 show, I have an issue that any married/dating females might help me with. The Fab5 seems to hate male hair. Nose hair needs to go and ear hair, but they had a guy trim his chest and they are very anti monobrow. My take is women love seeing hairless, clean shaved/chested men in ad's, magazines, TV, etc. But women want the man thats in bed with them to be hairy...? Even the monobrow makes a man look more manly...? Looking at men is one thing, the man in bed with you another? I think a hairy man makes women feel more secure and that he's "the man", the protector? Especially since 9/11, a hairy man is seen as being strong, manly, a protector...???

Ops, didnt mean to offen anyone named Harry... :D

Married woman here...

Back hair, neck hair, nose hair and ear hair: NO!
Monobrow: Forgivable depending upon the kind of man, and the kind of monobrow. My dear husband has a pair of eyebrows that the F5 would no doubt wax out the wazoo, but I am fine with it.

What I want in bed is clean and well-groomed. The hairless, clean shaved/chested men in magazines? Well, if I were not married, I would not be kicking those "pretty boys" (metrosexuals? See the H.H. thread) out of bed!

Some chest hair is fine. Mr. J has nice chest hair. I love it. Men who look like they are wearing sweaters while going shirtless? Nuh uh. Hair down the triceps or back? Gross.

And before any man comes along and tells me I am a "hair (or hair-free) bigot" let me just point out how much hair I regularly rid myself of to keep your gender from going "ewwww"...

Re: Oprah -- the interviews with the Fab 5 themselves were on the "Oprah After the Show" show on Oxygen. Great stuff there -- too bad if you missed it.

Re: Leno -- the new set is up. They've kept some of Thom's furniture and changed things around a bit.

The desk is the old desk, I think, though it looks to be a different color more in tune with Thom's furniture. They kept the rug. The sofa is the new sofa, but the round end is on the end away from Jay's desk. They've added a matching armchair to restore the old chair plus sofa configuration. They've kept the big 'Hershey's Kiss' lamp. The sculpture is gone and they have new (smaller) tables.

Re this week's episode with the poor miser kid: it occurred to me that the kitchen in the guy's apartment is not laid out very well, and if Thom and Ted had only thought to get him a bar cart like the booze wagon they wheel around backstage at The Tonight Show, he could have kept all the booze paraphenalia organized. With more counter space he may not have gotten quite so flustered and may not have knocked the stuff off the counter and busted it.

Clearly the guy is beyond cheap. He's a classic miser. You could see that everybody else adjusted pretty quickly, throttled themselves WAY back and emphasized to him that he could get nice things that were inexpensive, if he were willing to just spend a bit more money. Poor Ted really dropped the ball, however. He didn't realize that just the explanation of a regular martini vs. a dry martini had the kid well on the way to information overload. Teaching him to make a mint julep too was really pushing it.

I know how Ted must have felt. Anybody who has been a teacher has been there. Maybe this will teach Ted that he has to pay more attention to the victim. :(

The Fab5's reinactment of the akward silence was CLASSIC!!! Other than that, the straight guy was just difficult to watch...complaining about everything.

Posted by: doom1701

Allen was a difficult one to watch. The Fab 5 were joking about having their very own rain man after he broke the cocktail thingy, but I really do wonder if the guy has some serious mental issues going on. That made it a little sad for me. You want to see some normal guy get better, not a guy with an illness get patched up and then broken again.

But it did force the Fab 5 to take care of a major flaw I've had with them--cost. They've been "no holds barred" in previous episodes, as if everyone has 95% of their income available to simply buy fashion, hair and body treatments, and $500 lumps of meat. With Allen, they stressed living in a budget, making use of "vintage" clothing (I'm just waiting for Carson's trip to Goodwill to pick up some more "vintage" clothing :)), and a few other frugality issues.

Excellent point. I did like how they really focused on a budget. It was nice to see them be able to adapt to him. It was good advice that they said that it's ok to skimp on some things but you have to know where/when to spend the extra money on.

BTW...I thought they made his apartment look GREAT. That artwork looked great against the colors of the wall.

The "frugal focus" for this guy was part of their normal "adapt to this guy's tastes" and this guy was such a major miser that they knew they needed to focus on upgrading him within his limitations. They try to keep their "make-betters" sustainable. Sometimes they just have better success in one area over another.

Posted by: TampaThunder

I can't believe that this guy (Allen) would have volunteered for the show. He was against everything the Fab 5 suggested at the beginning and certainly wasn't in the "spirit" of the show. Methinks his girlfriend suggested (via twisted arm) he do it.

Oh, yeah, and I loved where they made him pay for his girlfriend's gift. You could almost see his hand trembling when he handed over his never-before-used credit card. :)

Posted by: faerie

what I found to be pretty sad about the whole thing was that the only things in the apartment that he appeared to spend money on were the stereo, TV and computer (that mac isn't cheap!) so he's not completely a lost cause.

I too feel that something is seriously wrong, he's got some unresolved issues with that whole thing about beating himself up over breaking the martini set....

Yeah I felt bad for him. Then I felt worse when Ted said "I feel like I wasted my time"... He's the only one I don't like. Very negative guy (at least when the others say something bad, it's either in fun or they contrast it with a "but he's doing ok overall". Ted also ALWAYS mentions how much the food costs.

Posted by: doom1701

NJChris, I think they can all be a little cruel at times (I shudder to think of some of the things that Kyan has said), but I think it's all done in good taste. Ted just has a very dry sense of humor, and I think that can come across in the wrong way sometimes.

Personally, he's my favorite guy on the show, because of the dry humor.

I really have a hard time saying which one is my favorite. They all seem to shine at various times. I think Carson has some of the best lines though.

Ted spent what, all of 11 seconds showing him how to make 2 different drinks. If anything Ted wasted the other guys time. :)

Yeah. THAT was really creepy. I had visions of Mother beating him with a coathanger for breaking her "only nice piece of furniture in the house". Kinda gives a window onto his "thriftyness" / "I don't deserve nice things" hangup though.. Dude needs therapy fast or it won't be long before his place looks about as bad as it did before.

My favorite character for banter is Carson. I think the most talented character is the interior designer (name escapes me for the moment). He really pulls off some amazing transformations considering what he has to work with.

The guys are there for at least three days solid, and they shoot for hours. I think they said on 'Oprah after the show' that they have about 80 hours of raw material that gets edited down to the forty-odd minutes we see.

So who knows how long Ted actually spent with the guy. We only saw the part they felt was good to use.

Oh, don't worry, Barey. He's not going to get rid of all that free furniture. ;)

Seriously, though, it is sad. You could see the Fab5 in the last segment, commenting when the kids' parents showed up that his family wasn't very demonstrative. And did you notice them calling out his mom for saying that was quite the bachelor pad he had now, right in front of his girlfriend?

This time was the opposite of the "make room for Lisa" episode. Then we were telling the victim to ditch his girlfriend. This time, I was saying to the girlfriend, "Ditch the necklace and RUN now!"

It's really sad, especially when you think back to the episode with George and his mom. :(

2 episodes ago (Tom M? - big oafish dad) didn't Carson break a cardinal rule by doing his shopping at OLD NAVY?

Sure they were on a budget, but doesn't Carson rank on The Gap (which owns Old Navy) pretty frequently?

The show's budget varys wildly from episode to episode. I know that each straight guy has different means, and they are trying to set up something sustainable, and perhaps the episodes are being aired out of order. But some makeovers spend thousands and thousands on furniture and clothes, while others just get a good cleaning, new paint, and some duds from Old Navy!

Posted by: dswallow

I'd like to see them identify how much was spent in each category during the makeover process.

A list like that would be analagous to the pages of fine print 'shopping guide' listings in the back pages of a fashion magazine. It would be cool if they did it, but I think it would be more appropriate to do it on the website rather than use up any more air time. If they put it in the show itself, it would get jammed into the credits, which we can't read anyway because they get shoved out of the way and stretched and shrunk down to make room for promo stuff.

I know what you guys are saying about some victims getting their makeover on the cheap while others get expensive stuff. But for those of us watching the show, the point is simple: you can have stylish things at any price point, as long as you take some care and thought about picking them out.

A breakdown would be interesting, though, because it's deceptive. The amount must vary on a show-by-show basis. I bet Carson spent a TON of money on all those shoes for Josh, for instance. Ca-ching!

I'd bet that it depends on the make-better. For instance, people who have furniture that can be re-purposed (like Adam Zalta) probably get more expensive single pieces because Thom doesn't have to buy so many things to finish out the room.

In case no one's heard, Bravo's on their way to starting up the second season of the show, with a whopping 40 episodes being made.

From today's IMDB news:

quote:
The Bravo channel is close to renewing its hit series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, giving producers Scout Productions a huge 40-episode order, the Hollywood Reporter reported today (Friday). The trade paper indicated that negotiations continue over a deal with Bravo parent NBC for "repurposing" some of the episodes on the network and with agents for the five stars -- Kyan Douglas, Ted Allen, Jai Rodriguez, Thom Filicia and Carson Kressley -- who are seeking a significant raise in payments from their original deal in which they received only $3,000 per episode.

That's a good idea - they could just have a dollar value appear onscreen when each item was bought or shown.

Then again, that might get too "Monster Garage"-ish....

Posted by: dswallow

I'd be interested just to see how much each of the Fab5 is responsible for spending. Just a way to get a feel for what it took to do. I don't care that it be broken down to the level of paint & masking tape & picture hooks... just "interior decorating," "food," "clothing," "personal care," "cultural," etc.

I couldn't figure from the article--is the second season 40 episodes, or is that for the contract length (seems like the article mentioned something about a 4 or 5 year contract).

40 eps in one year seems too excessive, but 10 eps a year sounds pitiful. Hopefully it's somewhere in between.

I really hope those guys get a HUGE raise, 3K per episode is low for a TV star. They deserve it, and I am happy it is a huge hit.

IT REALLY IS THE FUNNIEST SHOW I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS!, maybe because I am 'family' as we say, but it is still hilarious!

With Allen, they stressed living in a budget, making use of "vintage" clothing (I'm just waiting for Carson's trip to Goodwill to pick up some more "vintage" clothing :)), and a few other frugality issues.

One of the pieces I read on them (msnbc.com maybe) mentioned that the show pays for everything, but they spend money that is consistent with what the straight guy could afford. They are interested in giving him a new lifestyle. Starting him out with clothes he can't afford and expecting him to keep it up is unreasonable.

It's been _years_ since I laughed that hard, even with the momentary sad interlude about the broken glassware. The gin Julep? The sweating? Hammering the cutter with a vegetable peeler and then a book? "Mom's gonna have her top off in 15 minutes" and "Everyone ok on drinks?"

I'm laughing still just thinking about it.

Did it seem to anyone that like at the end of day one someone sat Allen down and said 'Get with the program, pal." The first 15 minutes was all "No one would ever wear this", "You guys are ruining my stuff" but then he started to at least try to sound enthused.

I practically cheered when Jai said 'and you're paying for it.' Bullseye!
And frankly, if someone as sweet as Jai is dissing you, you're in a bad way.

Did anybody catch the Fab5 on "Good Morning Miami" tonight?

Jan

Posted by: Graymalkin

No, dammit, my TiVo wasn't set to record this! I could've sworn I did, but... Phooey on me!

Posted by: WinBear

You didn't miss much on "Good Morning Miami." The guys were on there for about 2 minutes after the mid-show commercial break. The Fab 5 suddenly appeared in Jake's new NYC apartment helping out his girlfriend. Poor Ted didn't even get any lines.

Carson: "Those shoes are a D-I-saster"
Kyan: "Miami? Guys, we've got to get him bikini ready!"
Jai: "Two Van Halen CDs is 3 too many"
Tom: "It's totally a fire hazard, but it really brings the room together."

Posted by: WinBear

Speaking of... I heard on Sirius OutQ today a sound bite Jai Rodriguez saying that they would have more specialists on the show next season. The example he gave was that they could get Elton John to help a straight guy trying to write a song for his wife.

This was the best episode I have seen, and there have been some good ones. It was HILARIOUS. I am glad Jai made him pay for the necklace. I would never hang out with a guy who would not even spend money on me.

General music question: during the parts where they show the "before and after" views of the apartment, there's a song (mostly bass) that plays. It is pretty much the same bassline as "Under Pressure" (Queen/David Bowie), or for you younger folk, "Ice Ice Baby" (Vanilla Ice). My 1 year old son dances and laughs every time he hears it. Anyone know what it is? The QE/SG website was unhelpful.

NBC is tunning a "Queer Eye" episode Friday night.. Saw the promo for it last night during The West Wing.. But my TiVo doesn't have guide data for it yet.. Does anyone elses TiVo have the info?

Posted by: thenightfly42

smeek, according to zap2it.com,

Friday, 8PM (1 hour)
"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy : George Katsigiannis The ``Fab Five'' give a bodybuilder a new look. "

Bravo is also doing a marathon the same night.

Posted by: jsmeeker

I'll double check my TiVo tonight.. When I saw the promo, I went to schedule the recording.. But it wsan't there.. Maybe this is a last minute sort of thing and TiVo needs to get updated guide data.

Posted by: KRS

Just saw the episode with the long haired slob software engineer who wanted his gf to move in. Loved Carson's line when seeing the girl approach at the train station:

"There's a hooker in Trenton who wants her shoes back."

Too funny. Good episode, but I agree with my wife's complaint: the only thing really wrong with the guy was the fact that he was a huge slob. Other than that, he seemed to have his act together.

Oh, and I also loved Carson's comment about poisoning her fish while he prepared it.

Any new episodes coming, or is the "season" over?

New episodes start in November.

Posted by: jsmeeker

guide data for tonight's show on NBC came through on Thursday. Must have been a "last minute" addition by NBC. My TiVo is all set to record it.

BTW, if you go to Bravo's website, you can sign up for the QE newsletter, which contains info about both Bravo and NBC broadcasts.

And they've got wallpaper you can download.

Is the guide data good enough on this show that "First Run Only" now won't pick up the currently running repeats on Bravo? Since apparently my season pass is now over 28 days old, they are starting to re-record on my "first run and repeats" SP. But I switched to First Run and it is still wanting to record an upcoming episode.

Also, this article will answer some of the questions about the upcoming season:
quote:
'Queer Eye' Reopens in November
(Wednesday, October 29 09:23 AM)
http://images.zap2it.com/20030710/queereyeforthestraightguy_240_001.jpg
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - After being relentlessly cross-promoted across the NBC line-up from late night appearances with Jay Leno to disconcerting primetime pairings with the cast of "Good Morning, Miami," the Fab Five of Bravo's "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy" are finally ready to get back to doing what they do best: Mocking silly straight men. Bravo's summer makeover smash will return on Tuesday, Nov. 18 with the first of a string of new episodes.

Following its July premiere, "Queer Eye" became a surprising hit for the cable network. Not only did the show attract more than 3 million viewers per week, NBC had a degree of success repurposing episodes in both a half-hour and hour-long format for primetime. The show also turned its team of fashion experts -- Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Felicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez -- from unknowns into pop culture icons.

Early new episodes will feature a hippie postal worker with a taste for taxidermy, an ex-marine who yearns to be less officer and more gentleman and an attorney ready to embrace his baldness. It's also beginning to look a lot like a "Queer" Christmas, with a December Holiday Special.

The new run of "Queer Eye" will also feature updates on several of the straight men whose lives were changed by the Fab Five over the summer.

Plus, with many of its new shows failing, NBC has already said that a primetime network return for "Queer Eye" is a distinct possibility.

I'm not that impressed with Ted and his little food fetish. I'm hardly a master chef, but I know my way around food. One of the funniest things I remember from the show was when he had the pate de foi gras for one couple, and each one would take a bite and visibly dislike it! LOL! What's wrong with that guy? If people don't like the foi gras, then you picked out a pretty bad brand. And I would never have a dinner party with over 12 people and serve lamb. Not everyone likes lamb. A crown roast of pork would have been better.

well remember...he HAD to use Kosher foi gras, so perhaps that affects the quality of it.

Or you've just got a room full of people who don't eat stuff that you can't pronounce/spell. ;)

I like Ted, but I do think that he has occasionally tried to overdue it. The foi gras being a good example. When you're dealing with people who used to have a living room full of nothing but children's toys, you don't jump straight to the strangly spelled paste substance on crackers.

Ordinarily I might agree with you, Bob, but George and his mom are Greek. Of course they're going to serve lamb for a festive event.

Going with pork instead would be weird, like having Thanksgiving dinner with roast chicken instead of turkey. (There's nothing wrong with roast chicken, but it doesn't say "festival" the same way a Thanksgiving turkey does.)

The Fab 5 - Carson, Jai, Kyan, Ted and Thom - are back, setting
their sights on a hippie dad postal worker who dabbles in
taxidermy, an ex-marine striving to be both an officer and a
gentleman, and a conservative lawyer who is ready to go topless
for the first time in 13 years...by losing his toupee.

Also this season, it's a very QUEER EYE Christmas with a special
holiday episode complete with festive Hip Tips and a brand new
Fab 5 loft designed and decorated by Thom. For most fans, the
highlight is bound to be the show's visits with some of last

You admit that not everyone likes lamb, but you think EVERYONE likes Foie Gras? I think there's many more people who would like lamb on first bite than would like Foie Gras. Besides, that perticualr guy was greek, and lamb is a pretty common element in Greek cooking. I think that's what Ted was going for when he got lamb.

If I have to ask what's in it because it's not obvious, there's a good chance I'm not even going to bother eating it. Mostly because those silly names are attached to things you'd never describe by their real contents because people would rarely desire to eat them then. Escargot=snails; Conch=big snails; Calamari=squid; truffles=fungus (unless it's chocolate -- go figure) ;)

Which brings up a question about why so many such things seem to be French words. Put a "pretty" word on something disgusting and it still is disgusting.

I forgot about them being Greek. The lamb makes sense.

If you don't know, foi gras is goose liver. Personally, I can't stand liver. I find it vile and revolting and it makes me gag (it's just about the only way to make gag ;) ), but I remember having foi gras for the first time when I was in my 20's and couldn't believe how good it was. My opinion is that if more than one person turns their nose up upon tasting it, it's gotta be pretty bad goose liver.

I too thought the choice of lamb was a bit risky for a large group like that.. Of course, I peronally like lamb, and would have enjoyed that meal, but it is pretty risky. But as someone said, he is greek, so it's appropriate.. But at the time, I didn't think about that at all. I like fois gras as well. A bit less risky in that particular case, as it was for two, but if he wasn't sure if the people like fois gras, I would have done something else.

I haven't seen many epsiodes yet, but for the most part, I *do* like Ted. In fact, I think he is my favorite guy, based largely on some comments he made in Entertainment Weekly way back when the show fisrt started up.

Posted by: bobcarn

I've only recently started watching the show. "So many Tivo'd shows, so little time" kinda thing. I've seen one or two episodes, but only recently put up a season pass for it. My partner has it as a season pass on his Tivo, so I figured I'd watch them on his. But usually when I feel like watching the Tivo'd shows, it's later in the evening and he's asleep (his Tivo is in the bedroom), or he's watching something else. So I figured it was time to just get my own SP.

I just love the whole concept that these five fairies just own those straight guys! My partner told me something that is absolutely hysterical. It's something he thinks of whenever he watches the show.

He remembers seeing a documentary about a certain toad in Australia. It was introduced accidently, and is threatening the ecosystem there because it's reproduced a lot and has no natural predators. The toad is very very large, and very very ugly. Some people love to have them as pets though because they're supposed to be very tame and docile. The documentary showed these little girls having a pretend tea party. They were all done up in their little dresses and costume jewelry. They took one of these big ugly toads and dressed it up with necklaces and lace and little hats. Can you see where this is going? :D Every time he watches Queer Eye and sees the Fab Five dressing these guys and sprucing them up, he pictures those little girls in the documentary and their pet toad and how they dress it up and have their fancy tea party.

See, that's one of the things I like about teh show. They don't try to make him a different person, they just help him become a little better version of the person that he already is. I don't think I've seen anybody get "owned", (Well, except for teh jewish guiy with the Foie Gras;) )

Oh, and I've had Foie Greas. That crap is VILE!

http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/...reut/index.html

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) -- NBC has come to terms on a new deal for the stars of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," the hit show on its Bravo cable channel.

Recently completed negotiations have produced a contract awaiting signatures on both sides of the deal, according to sources, who indicated that the Fab Five all received raises more than doubling their original salaries. Although fronted by four different talent agencies -- as well as various managers and lawyers -- the Fab Five representatives banded together in order to command equal pay.

The "Queer" quintet returned to the negotiating table with new agents in tow after the first season to remedy the relative pittance they made at $3,000 per episode. Their new deal doles out at least $8,000 per episode, according to one source familiar with the deal.

Cultural icons seemingly overnight, the stars of "Queer" are fashionista Carson Kressley, interior-design guru Thom Filicia, food-and-wine expert Ted Allen, lifestyle maven Jai Rodriguez and hair- and skin-care maestro Kyan Douglas.

The new deal also guarantees that a specific number of the new episodes will be repurposed (i.e. recycled) on NBC in primetime, which would pay out additional dollars to the hosts in each instance. They were not remunerated by NBC for the repurposed episodes during the first season.

In addition, NBC retains approval rights to any endorsement deal that explicitly mentions the Fab Five nickname -- the trademark to which the network co-owns with "Queer" production company Scout Prods. The hosts are reportedly entertaining numerous offers for commercial appearances.

Individually, however, the Fab Five are free to pursue deals without NBC oversight. The new contract also provides more wiggle room for them to participate in other outside projects but nothing that could pose a potential competitive threat like a regular role on another TV series.

Last month, NBC ordered 40 new episodes of "Queer" from Scout Prods. The series' initial 13-episode run, which began in July, was an instant ratings hit for Bravo and performed well in select airings on NBC.

NBC declined comment, as did representatives for the Fab Five.

No, they don't "get owned", they are owned like people own a pet. Those guys run in, drag the guy all over the place, clean him up, dress him up.... it's like he's a giant Ken doll. :p Yeah, they make him a better version of what he is, but that's why they're so good.

I have never seen the show but I think they should do some sort of special and make over some sort of "bear" or leather loving dude into "man-smells" (is that a hyphenated word?) and/or some reeeeeely butch lesbian. Now that would be interesting. I would watch that.

Posted by: bobcarn

I just saw the episode for the first time where they made over a guy so he can propose to his girlfriend. This was the guy that held just about every kind of job imaginable.

WOW! Talk about a great guy! Not only was he one of the hottest men I've ever seen, he was an absolutely great person! Sensitive, romantic, funny, caring.... I thought he was a much better catch than the girl he proposed to. During the show, I kept saying "Don't you guys mess with him too much! Don't you guys mess with him too much!" The part that got me was when they did over his garden and he was sitting with them in that little arabian tent they made telling him that he could propose to her here. He got all choked up and was trying to keep from crying. I kept thinking that he was absolutely one perfect guy! And the time he spent running around catering to her was really impressive. He not only managed to do everything they told him to do, he did them all quite well.

Some lines I really liked:

"Don't touch the bed"
"Why? Is it encrusted in DNA? Do you have a bladder control problem?"

"Hug me. See? Everything feels better in cashmere."

Posted by: doom1701

Calm down bob--you're acting like us straight guys when we see a really hot lesbian on TV. :D

I think my favorite line ever was " you put a living room where the crack den used to be!"

How 'bout Straight Eye For The Queer Guy...

quote:

Turnabout shows wink at 'Eye'

By DONNA PETROZZELLO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Thom Felicia of 'Queer Eye'

Straight guys aren't the only ones who need style tips.
It seems gay men may be in need of help, too, based on two upcoming shows that add a twist to the premise of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

Comedy Central and Bravo are each planning specials that will have straight men make over gay men. Segments being considered for the Bravo spinoff - "Straight Eye for the Queer Guy" - include tutorials on power tools and watching football, a primer on decorating a garage and a how-to guide for a two-minute hairstyle. The one-shot special is due next year.

In three one-hour episodes, Comedy Central's "Straight Plan for the Gay Man" will have straight comedians teach gay men to behave like blue-collar workers, smooth-talking womanizers and amateur hoopsters at a playground game. It's scheduled to be shown starting Feb. 17.

Both of the new shows will come during a new season of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," which returns to Bravo next Tuesday at 10 p.m. with Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas and Thom Filicia, in the first of 40 new installments.

"Queer Eye" co-executive producer David Metzler said the special will blend humor with practical tips.

"It's done in a campy spirit that allows the straight guys to have a little fun with the Fab Five," said Metzler, who developed the series with executive producer and creator David Collins.

Along with turning the tables on their trend-setting hit, producers will check in with past "Queer Eye" makeover subjects to see if they're sticking with their new routine for a Christmas show, "Queer Eye Holiday," slated for Dec. 16 at 10 p.m.
