Show Security Camera through TiVo?

I have a Series2 Tivo. My house has a security camera that can be viewed on any TV when I go to channel 72 (an empty channel). The usage model would be to go to this channel when somebody rings the doorbell to see who it is, etc.

However, Tivo does not pick up this channel. It says it cannot tune this channel or something. I find this to be a major drawback. According to Tivo tech support, this feature is not supported. Is there anything I can do?

The usage model would be to go to this channel when somebody rings the doorbell to see who it is, etc.

And you want to be able to see who rang the doorbell 1/2 an hour ago?

This is for if I happen to be watching Live TV or a recorded program, and I want to do a quick flip-over to see who is currently ringing the doorbell. In theory, I could also have this set up to record this channel when I'm away from home, but that's no what I'm looking to do.

What I want to do is if I'm watching something, and somebody comes to the door, do I want to answer the door or not? Mostly, this is for my wife, when she's home alone with the kids when I'm out on a trip, to feel more secure about answering the door.

Wouldn't tuning the TV to 72 have the same effect?

I can't tune to 72 through TiVo. I can certainly add a splitter, route the TiVo through one of the AV inputs and have another coax cable going into the TV, then switch between AV and TV when somebody comes to the door, but I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for my wife. It would be much easier if she could just punch in "7, 2, <enter>" than have to switch inputs.

Plus, the TV has a limited number of AV inputs (1), which is currently being used for the DVD player. So, there would be more hardware to buy. Frankly, I can't understand why TiVo won't display channel 72. Why does it only tune channels that your cable provider gives you? What possible benefit is there to that?

I havent tried this myself so I am unsure if it will work, but....
What about using tivoweb and remaplineup.tcl and map channel 72 to a channel you dont get or something? I dont think you really care what the channel is called.

Set PIP on the TV tuned to channel 72. Wire COAX to second input. Press PIP button when doorbell rings. Leave TiVo (and its buffer) undisturbed.

I have a similar setup as you, josephabennett - my TiVos pick up the security camera (on Channel 82). You may have to retune your channel 72 at the modulator. The message you get from TiVo indicates a weak signal.
