Do you get the SciFi channel?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I don't anymore as of the 1st on my local cable, so I'm switching to DirecTV. A friend of mine said his cable company dropped it a year ago, and another said his moved it to their digital tier. I'm hoping this isn't a national trend.

Don't forget the option "I think so, but I stopped watching once they cancelled <insert one of a dozen series names here>"

Posted by: ZikZak

You're switching to DirecTV only because you want the Sci-Fi Channel? What the frell is left to watch there? SG-1 is okay, I guess, but nothing to go to the trouble of switching providers over. Frankly, I hope more providers start dropping Sci-Fi. Maybe then they will get the message.

My cable company is Adelphia, the worst cable company around.
In my area, they never had Sci-Fi on analog and if I want it now, I'll have to pony up at least another $50 a month for one of their digital packages....
They already don't do a good job on analog, why should I pay for digital?

Posted by: jsmeeker

I get it on basic, analog cable. However, I rarely watch it. Last time I watched it regularly was when they re-ran Battlestar Gallactic.

Posted by: stevel

I get it on DirecTV, but my local cable company also carries it on the "Standard" analog tier.

Yes, but it sucks. They cancelled all their good shows and have started using an annoying bug. I only watch it when TiVo picks up B5 as a suggestion.

Posted by: Crrink

Adelphia in my area claims it's only available on their Digital Tier, but it's on analog channel 70 for me, which Adelphia thinks is Comedy Central.
The guide info. is all messed up and everything....took a while to find a lineup on TiVo that was correct.

Funny, I'm on Adelphia and I've always had SciFi on analog. Around here Cox is the one everyone loves to hate; even before digital, they would force people to rent a box just to get some of the "basic" channels they were paying for.

No, that was just the final straw, my cable company has basically sucked forever.

Not being able to get local channels on the dish has been the only thing keeping me from going to DirecTV for a long while now, so when they canceled SciFi I checked out Dish and DirecTV just for the heck of it and there it was - Lansing MI locals coming to DirecTV in 2003. I hit the DirecTiVo forum here just seconds later to see what online sellers were the best to deal with, and my system should be here any time now.

:D I wonder what show you're upset about? Yeah, I don't want Sci-Fi anymore because of that also...

I love SG-1 (but I suspect that you can see season 6 next fall in syndication. I love Tremors but it will run out of its episodes soon and probably not be renewed.

I like some of the movies and weird things like their UFO specials.

Okay, I admit it - I was really looking forward to the new Battlestar Galactica in December. :)

It will either suck big time, and hence be on the air for years, or it will be a great show and be immediately cancelled. Or it could suck, then develop a cult following, then get immediately cancelled. Hard to tell.

I voted that I get it on Analog Cable since its available on the analog tier here, which is what I figured you were trying to capture.
In reality I get it with my Digital set-top, hope this doesn't skew your data.

Posted by: jamesbobo

While I now have Direct TV, Sci-Fi was available on basic analog cable. But I haven't watched anything on it since the miniseries Taken.

I think you've got your "cancelled" and "develop a cult following" backward - in my experience the cultists come out of the woodwork only AFTER a series is canceled, causing the networks to wonder why the heck SF geeks aren't well represented in the Nielson system. Another reason networks should replace Nielson ratings with TiVo data - the list of TiVo households is bound to contain a vast over-representation of the domestic geek population, of which I am a member.

I haven't watched anything regularly on Sci-Fi since the last new episode of "MST3K," although I will admit to watching "The Twilight Zone" and "Amazing Stories" on occasion.

I have it on Adelphia digital, and I think it's the only channel where I get the East Coast feed instead of the West Coast feed, so some of the times shows air seem a little bizarre to me (not that it's an issue with TiVo, of course).

Yes, on analog cable.

Thank goodness! Other wise, i'd only have my tapes to get my Twilight Zone fix! ;)

Interesting. Comcast in Marietta Ga. (East Cobb) moved it from digital to analog a while back. [dream]TiVo supports analog channels and digital cable box on the same machine, as it does analog cable and satellite.[/dream]

I get it on both analog cable and satellite.

Your not. I'm one of the 1/2 a million C-band users still around ;)

Motorola 922-4DTV-ird with a HD200 stb for HDTV hooked-up to a 10.0 foot Mesh Dish ;)

Posted by: RC3105

I just specified "satellite", isn't C-band satellite?

Posted by: RC3105

OH fine, nit pick! :p

technically you are correct, however, c-band & dtv/dish are VERY different

c-band is MUCH more fun (in the root canal sense of the word)

Analog. I'd rather they moved it to digital because, at least in my area, my cable company (Charter) only has mono for most of the non-network analog channels , including this one.

At best, you can consider it a pilot, at worst a mini-series. But a regular show, atm, it is not.
