If anybody has the names and addresses of 70% of tonights Comedy Warehouse audience I would presonally like to write to them and find out just what type of head trauma they have suffered in the past.
Or, if they have not had any serious head trauma (in which case maybe I could help them have one) what elementary school they were recruited from that teaches that wierd voices and no actual jokes is funnier than well crafted, well delivered jokes.
If I was Pauly Shore I would take tonights show as a very good sign that it is time to make a comeback.

Unbelievable!
I got nothing else to say.

I thought Dat was the funniest and I was thrilled the underdog won for a change.
Posted by: dowalker
Put me in the list of "I can't believe it!!"
I did not think it was even close. I think Dave was one of the best there.
Oh well....
Posted by: cello
I didn't think either of them were that funny. I think that Dat would have been funnier if they didn't show us him rehearsing those exact lines over and over again.
Truthfully, I think that most of his housemates are acting like 12 year olds. Dat had a point about not needing to act like a comic in real life to be a comic on the stage. Neither Dave nor Dat made me laugh tonight, so I'm happy that at least the adult won.
Truthfully, the only act that I've seen in the house challenges so far that has made me laugh at all was (forgot his name) who lost last week.
Posted by: skearney00
That was awful. Unfortunately, weird voices are funny to people that have a 2 drink minimum. But it does wear thin quckly. Fortunately for Dat, they only get a 10 minute set. If they had to do a 30 minute set or more, I have to have faith that the drugs these people were on would have worn out by then.
I don't know if it was the TV editing, but it seemed like over half the audience missed Dave's last joke about the good song on the radio.
Posted by: Chandler Mike
I'm pretty bummed over this...I loved Dave and thought he'd go far.
Dat's act is lame and if anyone saw more than one or two of them in a row, they'd realize he has zero material and has some sort of fetish for his mom :)
Dave not being on the show anymore is going to bum me out...he was freaking hilarious.

After watching the first half of tonight's show, I definately decided Dave was the funniest person in the house.
That being said, I didn't think the highlights of his act were nearly as good as they were when he smoked Sean.
Got to remember, we see about 2.5 - 3 minutes of a 10 minute act. If they show you the highlights, then it is possible that the overall acts appear a lot closer than you think, or even get skewed the wrong way.
Trying to read the other comedians reaction shots backfired for me, because they were obviously distraught because Dat was doing well.
I can't believe their plan was to get Geoff of, while not making any of them vulnerable. It sure did backfire on them big time.
I have to give Dat his due, he taught them all a lesson at that showdown. I just wish Dave wasn't the one who got kicked off the show. I could have taken anyone else there better than Dave. Dave didn't seem to have a very stong set though. The first time he was up there I was laughing the whole time. This second go around was not nearly as funny. Perhaps he just creates too much material and without an outlet to test it out, he took too many chances the second time around.

I wish Dat would have gone against Rich Voss. Should have challenged the person he voted for. Plus if he would have beat him, the others would be in shambles.
Posted by: Cathy/Vik
mwhip, I agree whole-heartedly. Though I love Rich! LOL!
Dat stood out to me as NOT being that funny back when he 1st showed up in the cattle-call... *shrug*
And he's annoying jsut from always doing *that* voice! BLERG!

I cancelled my season pass last night. I don't think any of the remaining comics are even remotely hmorous. I am quite certain we will never hear of these guys again after the show.
Posted by: scottjf8
Dave was way too cocky on stage.. he acted like he already won and was just going through the motions.
Now we were shocked and pizzed off, since Dave was the funniest person in the house.
Now I'm rooting for Ralphie (yuck, can't stand looking at him) or Tess. I hope Tess wins, she's ALWAYS funny!
Posted by: pmyers
I thought Dat was much funnier. I do agree that Dat should have had the cajones to call out Rich like he said in his video taped vote.

Quote of the century (a little politically incorrect, but I was rolling):
Rich Voss taking a picture of two Arab men. "This is for a little company we have in this country called the FBI."
Classic. I'll miss Dave and him together. Dat is a one joke comedian.
Posted by: groundcrack
Unfortunately, Dave's comedy act was just plain weak. Hands down, he was the funniest person in the house on a daily basis. He is quick witted, and is really funny on the clips of the comedians talking with each other. Unfortunately, he did a different act every time he got on stage against other comedian(s). I respect that a lot more than seeing the same act that Dat did When He won in LA, then doing it again last night. Unfortunately, Dave just wasn't on top of his game last night, and his new(more original) material didn't cut it. I really didn't want to see him go, but as much as I loved him on the show I still feel that he wasn't as funny on stage last night.
I've got to second that vote for Dat vs. Rich. I think that Dat would have won and put Rich in his place. I think that Rich Voss is extremely arrogant, and isn't nearly as funny as most of the people on that show. I was kind of surprised that he made it in the house.

Well I am doubtful of that. Since I knew who half of the remaining comics were before the show (which kind of flaws the whole concept in my mind to begin with), I imagine I will still see/hear some of them after the show.
I am just glad I don't watch:
Extra
Carson Daily
Good Morning Miami
I do watch comedy central though. :(

These Comics are hilarious! This is the best reality show to come out since the Amazing Race and Survivor. I'm a Rich Voss fan so far. We'll see when he gets on stage. Dave was the best. Ralphie needs to shed a few, but is hilarious. Tess is a STAR. The others are just filler.

She would totally agree w/you. ;)
From what they showed, which I know can be edited however "they" want, Dat did have a better set. Fast jokes, even based just on an accent, equal more laughs, equals the audience thinking he was funnier.
:(
He totally shoulda taken on Rich though. THAT would have been a knock-down! And if Rich lost!? The house would be in shambles w/o it's Don!
Posted by: jdfs
I like Voss, but I wanted to see Dat take him on. I think Voss has been sliding by. I've heard Rich Voss on the radio here in NY for over a year as a frequent guest (like every other day) on a now cancelled show. Jay Mohr and other local comedians would crack on him for having the worst material. I find it funny that he is considered the "Don" and given respect now. I thought Dat's set started out good and then went down hill. Too much of the mother and the voices. They were not funny. I would like to have seen the whole thing and definitely think Dave would win in a full set.
Posted by: Maui
What they aired of Dats act was not funny to me at all because all he did was make the funny voice. As I said in the original message they were no actual jokes in the act.
How long ago was this taped? They showed Dat on the set of Good Morning Miami. Didn't that show get cancelled? If not they would not be recording new episodes in the summer
Posted by: Cooper
After Dat's opening (with the accent), didn't anyone notice that he wasn't even getting any laughs through the rest of his act?
These were the highlights?
Dave's act wasn't as strong as his first one, I'll agree, but it was still a hell of a lot funnier than Dat's.
And maybe they're told not to repeat any material?
Anyway, it's a farce that Dat beat Dave.
And the way I saw it, the look on the other comics' faces during Dat's act wasn't a look of nervousness, but it looked like they were confused. More like a "This is supposed to be funny?"
I know that look. It was the same one I had on my face.
It's a good thing this show is almost over, because they just lost the funniest person in the house.

count me in as one of thoese people that couldn't understand a word he was saying. I guess I speak a different language then the rest of the audiance.

It's a little disappointing to watch this show after I saw Bill Cosby last night. Now THAT was funny.
On the other hand, I thought that Dat was decidedly funnier than Dave tonight. Overall Dave was more consitantly funny, but I think this was a case of the tortoise & the hare. Dave didn't think he had to do anything to win, and he lost. I also would have liked to have seen Voss get booted.
As for the rest of the series, I will be pulling for Dat the rest of the way. Yeah, he's a little weird, but he's humble. I like that. The rest of them need to get over themselves.

I didn't enjoy either Dat or Dave yesterday.
Dave's "I-have-a-<insert car model name here>-and-it-sucks" was not exactly original material. Some of the lines did make me grin, though. (and I did get the "good song on the radio" one ;) )
I also felt Dat spent his time doing variations on the same joke (and I'm not only talking about the accent). I expected much more from both of them.
Considering that, as always, I skip over most of the "survirors" and "big brother" parts of the show, this was an extremely disapointing 15 minutes. :D

Dat sucks. "I want whomever wins this to be good and pure and honest and sweet and innocent and..." PUKE. As others have noted, if Dat picked Voss in the "I know I'm funnier than..." spot, why didn't he challenge him? Wimp.
I think Dat won because 1) the crowd was all 15+ years younger than Dave, 2) Dat is from CA and the venue is in CA, 3) Dave talked about having a warrant out, etc which makes people uncomfortable, 4) high-pitched, unintelligible voices are funny to drunks.
Dave wasn't doing his A material, but he didn't repeat any jokes that he did during the first face off against Sean. Dat did the same intro he did during the first couple of shows. I bet he does the same intro for each of his shows.
I don't hate Dat as a person (unlike Cha Cha Cha Chick whom I would pay to watch cry for a half an hour), but he's just not funny. At all.
Many people don't like Voss because he comes off as a jerk. I agree, that he comes off as a jerk. But, he's funny. Very funny.
Dave's got nothing to worry about. He got to do 4 pretty funny sets (the two face-offs and the two prelims) in front of America and was shown to be a pretty funny guy throughout the show. Plus, many people probably think he was robbed this week, so HE's now the underdog.
What's Dat going to do? A stereotypical "Asian sitcom" (as if all Asians were interchangable)??? And if he does, he shouldn't complain because his act is interchangable with all other Asian acts that do the "funny" voices and the stereotypical jokes (Asian nail salon, Asians buying up everything, etc).
I'm still going to watch because I think Voss, Ralphie, and, to a lesser extent, Cory are pretty funny. Dat, Jeff and Tess are not funny. To be fair, we just haven't seen that much of Geoff, so he might be able to pull out something funny.

I agree with you here. I also think that east cost and west coast comics have totally different styles of humor. I think Voss summs up most east coast comics while Dat sums up the west coast.

I don't think those who didn't like Dat actually listened to his jokes. He never made a joke about asians buying up everything. He made a joke about his dad making a joke about asians buying up everything.
I really liked Dave and wish Dat had chosen someone else to kick off. Of course I also liked Dave's sitcom pitch (incompetant terrorist's). Lots of room for good basic comedy there.
Also when they talk about the prize they mention a "Comedy Central Presents" show and a "talent contract". Does a talent contract include a show or is it more freeform and the winner could end up writing/producing someone elses show or being cast in a supporting role?
Posted by: pmyers
I think the "talent contract" is an easy out for them. Meaning that it could be anything.....can be used as an extra like Dat did on Good Morning whatever or anything else.

Actually, he did an impression of his dad making a joke about asians buying up everything. But, since we don't know his dad, Dat made a joke about asians buying up everything. If we knew his dad, the "funny" part would be how accurately Dat represented his father (as Homer says "it's funny because it's true"). But, since we don't, it was just Dat telling the joke in his father's voice (probably just so he could use the "funny asian accent" crutch again).
Posted by: Cathy/Vik
Actually, I thought the thing w/Dat doing the impression of his dad's joke was him showing how much his parents didn't/don't respect Comedy as a career.
Posted by: MarkofT
Or how much His mom dislikes it and discourages it but Dat's dad is sitting there encouraging him.
I was sitting here thinking about Dave's act and he followed the same pattern as he did before. Long story joke wrapped up at the end with a reference to a mid story joke. Hard comedy to do and I'll lay money that he watched a lot of british sitcoms on his local PBS station.

I think alot of (the better)comics use this tactic and I really respond to it. I don't know how "hard" it is to do, but one thing that happens, is that you (the audience) end up finishing the joke before the comic gets there. Now sometimes thats intentional and effective, but to put an exclamation mark on the end of a set, it's good to be surprised. That's exactly how Dave executed it...brilliant, I say. I think Dat's just a one joke pony. To put it another way...Dats a script kiddie, Dave is a hacker.
On the topic of Vos. I thought I would absolutely hate this guy. I hate his type. Though, I'm still undecided about how funny he is, he is actually one of my favorite personalities in the house.

Not to take away from Dave's use of this technique, but if you want to see a brilliant use of it, check out Ellen DeGeneres's current special running on HBO. Those of you who have seen it know what I'm talking about.

I don't think Dat's routine was very funny. But that's ok - comedy is subjective.
What shocked me about that fact that he won was that it didn't look like the audience thought he was funny.
I wish I still had it on my tivo, but when i saw it, it looked like they laughed through Dave's set, but only at the beginning of Dat's set. About half-way through, I was actually uncomfortable watching him because it LOOKED like Dat was bombing.
I guess NBC edited it that way for "dramatic effect", but would isn't it more dramatic to see two guys go head-to-head with their best material?
Oh, well.
On the bright side, Fox picked up 6 more weeks of "Paradise Hotel".
Woo-hoo.

I can't stop watching this show, and I hate myself for it. It must end. It has no point, they don't seem to be playing towards any particular end, and I am afraid they plan to just keep extending it forever.

This is the key point to remember, IMO. We don't know what NBC considers "highlights." We have no idea if we saw the three funniest minutes of their acts, or the only three funny minutes of one act, or if they worked to make the outcome obvious or surprising based on the way they edited. It's annoying, since it makes it hard to tell whether the audience was extra drunk or the funniest person in the house just had an off night.
Which brings me to my main point, that I'm just devastated that Dave lost, so I needed to come here and commiserate. :( From the first episode, my husband and I thought he was the funniest person on the show. He just didn't deserve to go down like that (although I didn't think his routine was as sharp as other times). Sniff!

Not only did Dat not have anything funny, when referring to his mom calling his dad for backup, he said "411". Uh, that's information dude. Perhaps you meant 911. Well doesn't really matter, it wasn't funny either way.

I agree, I actually fast forwarded for several seconds just to get past it. After the show was over I was wondering if I missed something really funny, but I wasn't even interested enough to go back and see.

That was the point I think. I also think Dat's talk in the house with him being serious and wanting a 'good' person to win is his style of humor not necessarily him being completely truthful in that sense.
Dat does need to reduce his dependence on the voice mock so he will need to work on that to really win the whole thing. I think the problem with Dave was some of his humor took a bit too much thinking. If you look at the comics who are really strong among a *wide* audience like Seinfeld, Robin Williams, or Chris Rock, you have to keep it simple.

Well, I'm jumping into the thread late I know....but this is one of the few shows my Tivo is recording this summer and I was on vacaction and just caught up.
I'm also in the "can't believe Dat won" camp.
1) His set was not funny.
2) He is not funny.
3) This whole "honor vs evil" thing almost made me throw up.
Also, does it not seem that his act is a complete (albeit clean) rip-off of Margaret Cho? Her "go-to" bit is imitating her parents, especially her mother, with accent, not understanding her desire to do comedy, etc... The whole time I was watching Dat I was telling the GF "this is Margaret Cho's act." Of course she was rooting for Dat because he was the underdog and Dave and Vos were "mean" to him.
I agree with the poster who said Dat won because it was a CA crowd and a CA comedian, and they seemed very young.
Mac
PS - He was funnier the next week when he knocked off Geoff.

I see where you're coming from. But somehow, Margaret pulls it off MUCH better imo...
