Anyone know where a copy can be found of the 25 Xtreme utility? I've had little success with a MFS created image and so I would like to try the 25Xtreme image but I can't seem to find the program to let me use the image.

That is a forbidden subject on this board, that software can be used to steal the Tivo service.

I don't think they allow discussion of the 2.5 xtreme because of some of its "features."

Woah! I wasn't aware of it.
OK, just tell me this then....
Can I fdisk the drive with a FAT32 partition to run scandisk, wipe out the partition and use the MFStools backup I have? I mean, will it repartition the drive when it puts the image back on the drive?
I have a 40GB quantum drive that passed all the manufacturer tests, but MFSrestore fails to put the image on the drive. I looked around and found another Image I thought I could use, but if that 25Xtreme thing adds stuff that ain't right, then please help me to know if I can scandisk the HD in a Windows machine an then get the MFS created image back on the disk.
Sorry for setting any alarms off,

mfsrestore pays no attention to the data that's already on the disk. I don't know why it would fail to restore to this drive. What error message is it giving? What size is the backup supposed to be?

To be honest, I got the image from someone with a DSR6000 and it was said that that image will work on my DSR6000R01. I never gave it much thought to making an image of the setup of my TiVo unit until it died this time. I'm trying to get it back up and running, but it's been replaced by a series 2 unit from Hughes. The DSR6000R01 is out of warranty, so I should learn the imaging of drives with the Linux utilities so I can recover from any further problems.
The DSR6000R01 is a bad design that keeps too much hot air inside the unit since the only escape path is beneath the unit. It's a bad design oversight that the series 2 unit well fixes with the fan bloing out the back of the unit. The Hughes series 2 unit is much cooler to the touch now than the DSR6000R01 ever was after running for even 30 minutes.
I guess I'll fdisk it and scnadisk/ disk doctor the TiVo 40 GB HD and hope that the MFSrestore will fix things. The idea has worked before going from Fat32 corrupted, linux, back to FAT32 with no problems on a different HD for Windows use, so why shouldn't it work here? It passed all the manufacturer tests, so it may be the HD got too hot and it finally messed up some ones and zeros that make the file system, or something.
Either way, I'd like to get it working because a co-worker got a little snobby with me about his replayTV box when I asked for his ideas on some linux tools to help me with working on the HD. He's the linux guru that I know of, and having him exclaim the virtues of his replayTV without even trying to answer my question gets me a little ticked off. So, it has gotten personal now, and I intend to win if the HD is willing.

After about 4 hours of running scandisk, the 40GB quantum HD wasn't even 50% done doing a thorough scandisk. It's most likely that the drive media is irrepairably damaged due to heat inside the old DSR6000 design. I let it run overnight at work and I'll give the HD an attempt tomorrow night to take the TiVo image.
Should that not work, anybody know if I can get it to work on a smaller drive? Yes, I said smaller. I realize most people want the larger drives, but I'm cheap and I have a 15GB drive I can spare. Since the TiVo is likely to be used only by my kids, it will not need to store much since we need to keep their TV time limited.

You can't restore a backup to a drive smaller than the original A drive. 15Gb isn't enough for a DSR.

Just because it CAN be used to steal does not mean it is bad software. Out of the box it does not "steal" tivo service.....
You have to "make" it do it. Its no different to me than nero burning software - its designed for a purpose, just because someone uses it for something other than it was designed for does not make it bad.....
PM me and I will let you know where you can go to discuess its other "legal" features - since we are now filtering their name completly...
all I have to say on the subject here
Good luck

Nobody said it was "bad". Talk of it is just not allowed on this board, that's all I was saying. :)
