Strange HDD upgrade Side effect

hi all,

I have just upgraded my second DirectTivo Series 2, to a 120GB maxtor hdd, I used the mfstools 2.0 to do the job. (this is my 10th Directtivo upgrade I have done since jan03)

The upgrade went smooth did the backup to a 3rd fat32 drive, then the mfsrestore to the new drive. Took it tested it then did the mfsadd to expand the time to 107 hours.

The Tivo works great, but when I hit the directtivo butten to use the menus the blue background is not there all I see is the text overlayed on the show I am watching. This is extremely annoying.

Anyone see this or have any Ideas before I start the whole process over again.

Thanks

You need to read the How-To again (always worth a quick glance at the latest Hinsdale, even if you do this a lot - he keeps it up-to-date with the current best practice).

That model requires different backup options.

well I solved the problem.

I have to change the parameters for the mfsbackup
from -f 4138 to -f 9999. After I did this the whole process
went without a hitch.

I dont understand why I had to do this, but I found it in the forms and it worked.

Thanks

Can you give us some more info here? What were the respective sizes of the two backups to your FAT partition? What model TiVo?

Its a Huges DirectTivo HDVR2, with a Manufacture date of apr 2003, the origional HDD had a Manufacturing date of Dec2002 too.

The New HDD was a maxtor Diamond 120gb 8meg cache.

I made 2 backups 1 with -f 9999 and 1 with -f 4138
The Size of the Backup on Fat32 was:
using -f 99999: 259,505 KB
using -f 4138: 259,505 KB

As you can see both were the same size. But the -f 9999 worked right off the bat with the bat. I did not do the inline expand at any point, I like to check every step.

Curious why this happoned.

thanks

Very strange - especially with the size being identical.

Can you report the exact system version?

Michael
