I have a series 2, How do I transfer movies that Tivo recorded on to my Windows XP machine?

That is a proscribed topic on this Forum.
I direct your attention to the clear warning signs on the way in.

The easiest way to get video off a series 2? A pc video capture device. Then do it just as you would using a vcr. Play from the tivo and record on your pc. It's pretty painless these days. You can get capture cards, usb capture devices, firewire to come directly off a camcorder... Check your local electronics store. (bestbuy, circuit city, compusa, tweeters...)
There is a way to do it digitally, but on a series 2, it can be quite the technological nightmare to the non-techie layman. A google search will give you a start. Sorry I can't say anymore than that, but doing it that way can't be discussed here due to the wishes of the guy that own's this board.
Good Luck!

I thought saving, or transferring to VCR, was a known and stated option of TiVo. Is this what you're calling 'video extraction' ? I'm just looking for a non-hack method of moving what I've recorded on my TiVo series 1 to my DVD burned as opposed to the VCR method described in the owner's manual and in the TiVo on-line menu. Am I missing something or, are we not talking about the same thing?

You could get a standalone DVD recorder. Treat it as a VCR. Pretty penny to spend for what it gets you though.

I think it is a proscribed topic only if you do it while trying to maintain quality. If you're willing to degrade the signal through a capture card or some similar crap I think that's OK.

It's proscribed because of the language the OP used: "movies that Tivo recorded on to my Windows XP machine". It can be inferred that he's looking for the original digital stream, and it's clear he's looking to save it to his hard drive.
I must say, though, considering the time and trouble that it (ahem..."reportedly") takes to do it the non-sanctioned way, a DVD recorder is looking better and better...
