Pepsi Vanilla

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Steavis

I stopped at the convenience store on my way in to work for a Diet Pepsi (need caffeine, too hot for coffee) and the display case had an marketing sticker for Pepsi Vanilla and Diet Pepsi Vanilla. It said they are "coming soon."

I'm looking forward to trying it, but I'm not sure how I'll like it. One thing I like about Vanilla Coke is that it adds a little bit of sweetness to Coke that I always thought was missing, whereas Pepsi is already sweet enough for me.

Did anyone else know about this? I'm surprised there wasn't already a thread. :)

Pepsi Vanilla? Ack! I'm waiting for Mountain Dew Vanilla. ;)

Posted by: nataylor

I'm holding out for Cinnamon Dr. Pepper.

Posted by: cello

mmm, I like vanilla coke. Well, I like just about vanilla anything.

Personally, I find that there is much greater difference between drinks from different batches and in different containers than there is between the two brands. Those differences are so much more salient to me than the differences between the brands that I can't reliably tell the brands apart. So bring it on pepsi - the more bubbly brown vanilla sugar water, the better!

I have tried vanilla Coke here in Missouri. It was ok but nothing I would buy to keep around the house. I am not sure if it is a product that is still available.

Vanilla Coke (diet too) is selling very well so far. I'm not sure when Vanilla Pepsi will hit, but I'll try it for sure. Diet Pepsi Twist was good; Diet Coke with Lemon tasted like Pledge, ugh. It was great for cleaning out the garbage disposal and leaving a fresh scent, though! :D

Introducing new flavors is about the only way Coke & Pepsi are able to grow at all; the mainline brands have been pretty flat for a while.

Copy cats. :)

Pepsi executives: "Oh, we'll just copy what Coke does and hope to profit from their genius ideas."

Posted by: someguyinmd

I tried the vanilla coke and its just to sweet for me. I drink mostly water so any soda leaves me with a strong syrup after taste, but extra sweet taste in the vanilla coke was too much.

I can't imagine vanilla pepsi being any better.

One of the best business model's ever invented! :)

I love Diet Vanilla Coke...now if only they had a caffiene free version too...

But...I hate Pepsi, but am a sucker for Vanilla...so I'll at least give it a try :D

It can't be any worse than that blueberry soda!

I agree, the Coke version with lemon is awful. Tastes like they added a squirt of lemon juice from one of those bottles that looks like a lemon.

Diet Pepsi Twist = awesome. Reminds me of....Lemon Pepsi. :)

Here, here! That stuff was awwwwful. I had one sip and almost spit it out. I'm not too fond of Sprite Remix either.

Posted by: MonsterJoe

First of all....Its never too hot for coffee...shame on you! ;)

Second, Pepsi is sooooooo much better than coke(Diet...the regulars are way too sweet)

Third Vanilla Coke has a nasty alcohol tinge to it...maybe Pepsi will get it right.

Last week I discovered that Cruzan Vanilla Rum in regular Coke tastes better than just plain Vanilla Coke.

Finally, someone who agrees with me about Sprite Remix. Yech!

LiveWire though is the bomb! I wish it weren't going away after the summer...

Exactly, you didn't see them come out with Pepsi II did, ya?

Posted by: LoadStar

I actually liked Sprite Remix. Granted, I don't know if it'd be something I'd switch to for my drink of choice, but it was nice for a change of pace.

What it reminded me of was that limited run Mountain Dew LiveWire, which is an orange-y Mountain Dew. I've had a few of those as well, and they're actually pretty good - not as good as the original Mt. Dew, but better than the Mt. Dew Code Red.

The thing I'm thoroughly surprised hasn't come out yet? Hard Mountain Dew - a carbonated malt beverage that tastes like Mountain Dew. I can see that happening too... and I even think it'd be a big seller.

And yes - for the record, the Pepsi Blue was (is?) NASTY. It reminded me of one of those Mr. Freeze pops - those things that come in the plastic tubes that you freeze. Take a few of the blue ones of those... thaw them... and drink them. Gaaaaack.

I'll let Shannon field this, one. :D

....sweetened with Splenda in lieu of aspartame. I would LOVE that!:)

Or Captain Morgan 'n Coke. The original Vanilla Coke!

Frank

I'm not a huge Pepsi fan but I'll probably give it a try out of curiosity.

One thing that I noticed is that Pepsi seems less carbonated and will go flat a lot quicker than Coke. One of the big reasons that I tend to stay with Coke. Unless Pepsi is on sale, that is. :)

I love vanilla coke, which is now my drink of choice, I just wish I could find a generic vanilla cola brand, coke is too darn expensive!

I used to drink Dr. Pepper, and found that Dr. Thunder from Walmart is almost a dead ringer...at half the price

People have been putting vanilla or cream in Pepsi, and Coke for that matter, for a long time. I don't think Pepsi is stealing anything from Coke. It just took Coke to point out that there was a market.

Didn't anybody watch Laverne and Shirley? Laverne always drank milk and Pepsi.

I've called them "poor-man's shakes" or "poor-man's floats"

"Poor-man's" because you don't have enough money to buy ice cream...

If you do it with rootbeer it's a poor-man's rootbeer float...

The taste of Pepsi Blue reminded me if a Charm's bigpop.

Yecch. I mixed Barq's and milk once to see what it would taste like. Tasted OK, I guess, but it upset my stomach something fierce.

I'll give it a try. I still wish they would bring crystal pepsi back.

Like when Coke executives said "let's change the formula of Coke to taste more like Pepsi", and New Coke was born?

Posted by: Mike Wells

It's getting tough to find Diet Vanilla Coke anywhere around in VA anymore. I suspect it is being discontinued. I'll have to look around for Diet vanilla pepsi.

Posted by: thehepcat

The vanilla cokes seem to be getting more shelf space around here, can't wait to have the Vanilla Pepsi come out.

I think Pepsi Blue might turn out to be a bigger failure than New Coke. It was on the shelves for about a month here.

Posted by: kiljoy

I'd kill for some of the original Crystal Pepsi. Not that lemony, reformulated crap that they changed it to for a microsecond before pulling it. Now that stuff was GREAT.

Tony

Posted by: LoadStar

Speaking of sodas that you miss - anyone remember a soda from the late 80's - 7Up Gold? I used to love that stuff...

Posted by: kiljoy

Could never tolerate that. Of course, I was like ten years old...

Tony

WOW, guess I'm the only person in the country who actually likes Pepsi Blue. I get at least one a week here at work. It isn't something I stock up on at home though. Of course I like lots of berry flavored things.. And I LOVE those freeze pops!! :) Have a bunch in my freezer right now. The Sour Flavor-Ice's are as good as they are sour.

Posted by: TiVolcano

I missed this thread while on my honeymoon, but I just tried Pepsi Vanilla and I like. I think I still like Vanilla Coke better, but the Pepsi version is good too, just a bit sweeter.

Posted by: rberry88

I tried the Diet Pepsi Vanilla yesterday and actually liked it better than the Diet Vanilla Coke.

rberry88

Posted by: loopey

Dan and I tried Diet Vanilla Pepsi yesterday. He likes the coke version more and I like the pepsi version more (I've always liked pepsi products in general better than coke anyways).

Posted by: Steavis

I also found the Diet Pepsi Vanilla the other night and gave it a try. Another vote for 'better than Diet Vanilla Coke.'

Posted by: Dan203

I thought it was a little too sweet. I think the bitter taste of coke is better suited for the vanilla flavoring. :)

Dan

Posted by: farleyruskz

I agree that it's too sweet for my taste, but then again, I think regular Pepsi is too sweet and prefer Coke/Diet Coke.

Back when I was drinking regular soda I always preferred Pepsi over coke. However in their Diet forms I prefer Coke. <shrug>

I'm a Diet Dr. Pepper guy...when the local Pepsi bottlers had their strike a couple of years ago and everybody ran out of Pepper, I got desperate and tried a case of Diet Dr. Thunder. It was so bad, I switched to Coke for the duration of the strike, and I still have most of the Thunder case under the kitchen sink.

God, that stuff was awful!

Posted by: WinBear

I really liked the smoothness of the Diet Pepsi Vanilla, especially in contrast to the crispness of Diet Pepsi and the harsher edge of Diet Coke with Vanilla.
