Dat Phan, you the man!

As I said in a previous post, I'm pulling for Dat from here on out!

Posted by: mwhip

I don't really find Dhat all that funny. But man do I love the underdog!

The only person I really want to see leave is Rich.

Posted by: marksman

I thoughtt Dat was really funny tonight.

Geoff did alright, but Dat appeared to be better than he was the night before.

I guess all the old-timers a getting a little dose of humility.

I thought Dat was great too & I was glad he didn't do so many voices. Geoff did better than I thought he would have, but I agree with the audience: Dat was funnier.

Rich Vos' attitude leaves a lot to be desired IMHO. I wonder how that will play into next week's audience voting. Has anyone heard what the format of next week's show is going to be?

Dat did MUCH better this week. I was glad not to see him go. Although I really want to see Ralphie May perform again!

Posted by: LifeIsABeach

I thought they should have chosen Rich or Tess since neither of them had performed as of yet. Dave was worried that Rich would be rusty. Will he be any less rusty when he has to perform next week with America doing the voting?

Rich is the man! Bring back Dave!!! How in the hell did they get that shot of Dat tripping over the chair the second Rich said he wish he tripped and fell over the wall. Pure comedy.

Dat deserved it this week. Jeff just wasn't fast enough (or funny enough). I expected Dat to do the same routine but he surprised me. But Dat's just not a funny person off of the stage. He had to make up a joke that he didn't know martial arts to get a joke. The other comedians seem to use their real life as their act which makes it more funny IMO. Here's to Dat's exit next week.

I will admit that Dat was better last night than he was last week. I thought it was a toss-up between the two last night althouh I did like Geoffs ending joke.

My favorite part of the show was the wrath of Dave! I loved it when he had the line about Dat just mocking his mom for 10 minutes.

Dat was a lot funnier the second time around. I enjoyed the first time, but as has already been stated, he used the "voice" card way too often.

I'm looking forward to the next round. For anyone interested in seeing the next round live:

Is next week the season finale? Or do we get to vote off someone American Idol style for 4 more weeks?

...random thoughts:

I loved Dave's comment to Dat last night...(paraphrase) "If I'd known all it took was mocking your mother for 10 minutes I would have brought my uncle along." That comment was right on.

What we saw of Dat was much improved over what we saw last week. I still don't think he is a skilled comic though.

I think Ralphie is one of the funnier ones left, but his attitude is really starting to rub me the wrong way.

Ok, it's possible that Geoff wrote that last joke, but I have seen that joke passed around many times by email so I have my doubts.

Yeah because the next round is actually live. Which means they have been doing standup several months since they taped last night's show.

So the rusty issue should not be a concern unless someone decided to take a two week vacation right before the competition.

My husband and I were talking about this last night. He thought the same thing you did, that Dat was claiming he didn't know martial arts. I felt like he was saying that people assume he does martial arts even when what he is doing has nothing to do with martial arts (peeing, eating, picking his nose, whatever). We went back to watch it again, with CC turned on.

Dat has that weird, he has sort of a stutter to the way he talks. It isn't like he stutters on, I mean he doesn't stutter on words but on sentences, like an idea, like he starts a phrase, he starts talking, and then starts it again.

Anyhow re-watching it I thought grammatically he did say something more easily interpreted as, hey I don't even know martial arts but people think I do, but I still thought what he actually meant did not claim that he did or didn't know martial arts, just that people assume it in situations where there is no evidence that he knows it.

Either way, I definitely thought his set was stronger than Geoff's. Of all of Geoff's set clips so far I thought that one was by far the weakest. The other comedians were saying it was a tough call, and they aren't known for their kindness, so maybe there was more funny in the part they didn't air.

I like the end of yesterday's show where they were saying that Dat was pretty funny, and giving him hell for picking Dave last week instead of Geoff.. Dat even seemed to apologize!

My favorite line of the episode was when Rich Vos was wondering what Dat Phan would do if he came over to your house for dinner and he didn't like the chairs.

When Dat Phan first came out on stage without his fake accent intro I thought he was going to stumble. But he sure surprised me and ended strong.

Dat Phan was the only one of the two that got me to laugh out loud (once). I had to laugh when he did his Viet Namese version of the suave American pick up line "Does your Father steal things?" in "the voice". I don't know if I could stand a whole hour of "the voice" though. That seems to be his big gun, and it's beginning to feel like he's a one trick Pony.

On the other hand Rich had me laughing pretty hard at the chair references, "that chair killed my Brother" etc. He seems to be pretty spontaneously funny. Don't know if he'll win, but I'd love to hang out with the guy for awhile. If he didn't smoke so darn much that is...

Second week in a row that Rich Vos suprised me by making me laugh.

You make it sound like comics don't embelish or take a lot of liberties with their lives to tell good jokes. Sure, they'll pull some stuff from their real life, but they make up a ton of it. Sometimes they'll do what Dat did and admit they were kidding (like when he said his girlfriend was pregnant), but most of the time, its assumed that they're kidding.

You think Dave Mordall actually got pulled over by a cop and then tried to outrun him (recall the joke about his car, but then he didn't get away cuz there was a good song on the radio)? Trying to think of other examples off the top of my head, but can't at the moment.

For what its worth, I thought Dat should've gone last week, but i hate to admit it, this last episode he made me laugh, while Jeff didn't as much.

I decided to ask Dave Directly (His E-mail address is on his website). You can choose to believe him or not, but his response was:

"The act of robbing the gas station actually took place in 1979. It was a really stupid, drunken prank that went so horribly wrong." -Dave

At least it gave him good material :D
