The Amazing Race 7/24 SPOILERS!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: David Platt

Well, it's about time. The virgins are finally gone. I didn't think there was any way that Jon and Kelly could pull this one off, but the dreaded 'killer fatigue' sure got Millie and Chuck. Millie looked like she was going to pass out through the last half of the episode.

What a nail-biter of an ending, huh?

Posted by: TiVoLance

Bye Bye Moley Moley Molly and Werewolf Man. :) When Millie made Chuck do the nuts and the climbing I hoped they were voted off. She couldn't even read the road maps while he was driving. Basically her only skill was nagging. One question who has FF left? I've lost track.

Posted by: David Platt

The only team out of the top four that has used the FF is the team that used it tonight, Chip and Reichen. Should make for some interesting round in the next couple of weeks!

Posted by: TheDewAddict

I used to really like Chuck and Millie, but as this episode went on, I found myself cheering for Jon & Kelly. Even though they fight a lot, they seem to have an equal relationship, e.g. he makes fun of her as much as she maked fun of him. Millie just seems to whine and tell Chuck that he needs to go faster, when in reality she is the one that slows down that team.

Posted by: dwells

Did I miss something, or did they make it seem like this was going to be a non-elimination round? I never heard them say, "the last team will be eliminated" at any time during the show, which has ALWAYS meant non-elimination in the past. My wife and I were sure Phil was going to tell Millie and Chuck "you're the last team to arrive.......... the good news is...."
When he didn't, we almost fell in the floor. If this is a new thing, then its a good thing- I always hated that you knew ahead of time that is was going to be non-elimination........

Did we just hallucinate all of this??

Yeah the editors were having a little fun with us tonight. I was really surprised that Phil did not say the standard "The last team to arrive will be eliminated."

I'm glad Jon and Kelly were able to make it as their have become my favorites.

Posted by: WinBear

They started pulling this on a few weeks ago. For an elimination round, Phil would open the show saying "Who will be eliminated tonight?" and for a non-elimination round, he'd say "Who will be eliminated next?"

He's been saying "next" a lot more often than there have been non-elimination rounds this season.

I agree with you 100%. I used to like Chuck and Mille and have a little disdan for Jon and Kelly. As the time passed I grew to dislike Chuck and Mille more and more. Until this week when I was praying Millie lost, because I had grown to despise her. And I think Chuck is a goofball.

You are NEVER going to convince me these two bozos dated for 12 years. And it is not a ringing endorsement for abstinence. Maybe if they had sex they would have broken up a long time ago.

Posted by: zyzzx

I'm glad this was an elimination round. I'm not sure I could have handled two freebie weeks in a row. Last week after Jon and Kelly were not eliminated after arriving last, I somehow felt cheated.

I wouldn't be too hard on Chuck. He has the look of someone that's been beaten down and berated for 12 years. He looks numb, like someone that's been abducted into a cult and doesn't have the willpower to leave.

Please, someone save Chuck from the cult of Virgin Millie!!!

J :p ;) :D

Posted by: TiVo'Brien

Yeah, THAT'S who I want on my team in a race around the world: a girl who can't read a map!!!!!   Glad they're gone. What kind of person goes on a race around the world and can't read a map? Unbelievable! What a moron!

I hope Kelly and Jon are next. Both of them really need to grow up!

The orangutans were really cool. I'd like to try that someday.

So now we're down to the clowns, the "goats", Kelly and Jon, and Chip and Reichen.

Posted by: cello

I wish that Kelly and Jon had been eliminated. As much as Millie and Chuck were getting on my nerves, I just think that Kelly is a spiteful little person who gains way too much pleasure out of insulting the physical features of others. It's like she hasn't matured beyond middle school. And, well, anybody who tells their fiance to f*uck off isn't going to get high marks in my book. Those two better be gone next.

I have to admit that I probably would have chosen to hang with the orangutans, even if the fast forward were already gone, and give up the rest of the race. Coolest FF ever.

Posted by: MarkofT

I was wishing they would get to the end and call it a double elimination round so they could kick all four of the whiny morons off. Now we have to put up with Kelly and Jon at least one more round, possibly until the end of the show depending on who gets kicked out next.

Posted by: TivoDaddy

Jon & Kelly, luckiest-team-ever!! I thought that for sure they would lose. Hating a team makes for good TV, and it's looking like a repeat of last year where Flo was really hated and she and Sideshow Bob win the whole thing.

Watch out for these two, they just might take the whole enchilada. I'm predicting the clowns, my favorite team, will be eliminated next.

Posted by: kyote

Did anyone watch CBS this morning to see what happened to Chuck and Mollie? I was wondering what happened to them now that they were off the show.

Posted by: PurpleFrog

On CBS This Morning, Millie and Chuck are still together, but have no plans to marry.

I caught the last half of this show last night ... it was the first time I'd watched it. I saw that scene and thought the same thing. Is she able to drive? If so, why didn't she drive and let him read the map?

Yes, I figured as much. They're too in it now to realize it should end.

Best episode of the season. I was really loving the nail-biting race between Chuck/Millie and Jon/Kelly. It was great the way the editing made you think it might be a non-elimination round. It made the ending a surprise.

I'm so glad this year that all of the weak teams have been eliminated, since last year a very undeserving contestant (Flo) ended up winning it. The Jon/Kelly team might be mean, but both of them are pretty good when it comes to staying focused and giving all you've got to the challenges. IMO this year the final four teams are representative of who has been racing the best.

I'm still rooting for the clowns.

Didn't they say in the last episode that staying focused was their weakness? They proved that by not finding the first clue in last night's episode, and not being able to see the number on the truck that corresponded to the wheelbarrow, eventhough there seemed to be only one truck left. They also got lost in the Venice canals when Jon wouldn't listen to Kelly that the sign pointed the opposite way they were going. They certainly have been lucky to stay in the game as long as they have.

Posted by: DLiquid

Yeah, I agree Jon and Kelly have been lucky, but Kelly did very well last week in the spear throwing / blowgun thing. They constantly argue, make fun of other people, and appear clueless (#5 on truck), but they're not the whiny "let's give up now" types, which I can't stand. Incidentally, I dislike the Jon/Kelly team compared to the other teams still in the race, but they're entertaining.

Posted by: TheDewAddict

Agreed, they could have very easilly given up on this one. After getting lost in the forest, then getting denied at the fast forward, they still stuck it out and ended up beating another team that had been in first place earlier in the episode (all because Millie can't read maps)

I couldn't believe that! How stupid are these people?

Also, once again, the clowns were a couple of classy, nice guys when they pointed out the green wheel barrow to the "goats."

When Chuck stood there on the Amazing Bathmat he looked to me like a little boy that had disappointed his mother.

My fav moment was when Chuck was scaling the ladder and Millie was toking on her asthma inhaler (what do you want to bet she's "allergic" to peanuts too?).

I do give them that! Unlike whiny Flo giving up late in the race on TAR3.

I wanted to see more after the a-hole comment Jon made in the car. It seemed that Kelly got out of the car when they came up on traffic. I wouldn't be surprised if he had to beg her to come back in the car.

Do you think she fakes her attacks? The time she had to stop in the airport because she couldn't breathe was pretty convincing.

And the people I know who are allergic to peanuts will die without immediate medical attention if they eat peanuts. I don't think they're faking. If that's what the scare quotes were meant to imply....

OTOH, competition can either bring out the worst or the best in people. They're under a lot of pressure and Mollie wanted this way to bad. I think they both got in over their heads with this. Maybe, back in real life, their different people. Who knows?

Wasn't it this couple too that have been getting no sleep cause their up all hours of the night scheming and planning? It was either this one or Chuck and Mollie. They were saying they'd been calling airlines and such. I was talking to my wife and I was like, "why would they be calling airlines for? They don't know where they are going yet?" It just made me wonder. People function a lot better when they sleep. Get some rest, give the brain some time to recoup. If your up all night your not going to be at your best and you'll make mistakes.

Exactly. I didn't blame her a bit for getting out. I'd have dumped his a@@ right there. No one should treat their girlfriend/spouse like that. My wife would have kicked my a@@ for saying that. Not once, but twice he did that. There's something seriously messed up there.

That was Chuck and Millie. That's why you see her almost passing out due to exhaustion in the car.

Another thing. Wouldn't you think that you would pay more attention to the cameraman [woman] following you around? It was funny to see the shot of the sign to the correct place as Millie & Chuck were going the opposite way :D. I would start to look at the direction the camera was pointing to.

Posted by: Uther

Kelly was being rather bitchy, basically saying to Jon "I told you so", because Jon had stated earlier that nobody ahead of them would ever go for the fast forward. I'm sure Jon didn't need her bitching at that point.

That being said, Jon is the biggest schmuck. And Kelly is quite the bitch. I guess they're perfect for each other.

P.S. What Jon said to her was, "Go F*ck yourself!" Maybe he just wanted her to de-stress herself? ;)

Editing.

The camera operators aren't going to be giving clues like that to the contestants.

Posted by: cello

heh, if I were their camera operator, I may have given out incorrect clues. ;)

It is dangerous to drive and puff (on her inhaler) constantly.

;)

I think she overdoes it significantly for attention. As someone who spent a significant amount of time in the hospital as a child with asthma and took a slew of medecine and used an assortment of inhalers for a long-time, I think she is over-playing it a bit.

Except they do. I don't remember the specifics of the road sign, but they did it a couple times at the palm tree plantation. One team was having trouble finding the clue. The camera panned from them to the wheel barrow (looked like almost a 180 degree turn) and then back. There were no cuts. They did something similar when Jon and Kelley were trying to find the dump truck. The team members were pointing at the "C", and the camera panned over to the "5" that was next to it. In this case, the camera movement was much more subtle.

It was incredible bad luck. No one had intended to go for the fast forward, Chip and Raisin only went for it as they went in the wrong direction.

As for the map reading - it is unbelievable. If I was chosen for TAR, I would physically train for the running, lack of sleep etc, and would go on a map reading course. What a waste!!

It is like the BFG's, they didn't look like they did any preperation at all, and anyone who's watched the show would realize that the physical component is a big part of it.

Agree that the best 4 teams are the ones left.

It's pretty much a crap shoot from here, as any one mistake can put you out of contention.

Must admit I've been pleasantly surprised by how well the clowns are doing, that positive outlook stuff really works in this stressful environment.

Go Clowns:up:

Which now has turned into incredibly good luck, since they weren't eliminated and can still use the fast forward.

Are we out of fast forwards, are there any more to use, or do they stop them this late?

If not, one of the teams that can use them should just decide to use it, no matter if they're behind or not...

-smak-

Posted by: TivoDaddy

I think you can use FF until the Final 3 since then it's a race to the finish.

Posted by: TeeSee

I think the last leg is the only one where you can't use a FF.

Posted by: kyote

The only thing is, it seems a lot of times the teams all get bunched together at some point no matter who used the fast forward from before. their either waiting for the airport to open, waiting for a gate to open or whatever.

Right, which is why it's dubious to use it early, unless you're going to be last.

Now, it's something that may give you an easy pass to the final 3.

So why not get your FF, and just go straight to do it.

9 out of 10 times it puts you in first.

Sure they may bunch up again next show, but at least you are still there.

I think these are all "staged" shots, taken either before or after the contestants go through by another camera team. Plenty of shots in the race have obviously been edited in separately. The road sign shots, if you watch again, are separate takes. The final-two teams' "mystery" shots as the camera races toward pitstop, close-ups of signs that are clearly separate shots, and of course the setup shots of all the detours and roadblocks -- I suspect these are all taken by additional camera crews for clarity's sake.

In the case of the pan to the "5" - this was obviously part of the same take by that team's camera dude. But as you said, subtle.

Posted by: rasheed

The shots are not staged, but the teams get so used to trying to work the race that they do forget and really don't pay attention to what the camera is pointing at. Would it be useful? Maybe, but there are also a number of camera crews available at the different stages that would make it difficult to determine what to pay attention to (a few at each tasks -- during the car travels, there is just the one in the car with a few mounted cams, but the flashback to the sign could have also been easily taken by the trailer or lead film vehicles along the same path).

I went back and watched those two scenes again. I'm off in my description of the wheelbarrow shot. The camera is actually situated on the opposite side of the wheelbarrow from David and Jeff, and pans up from the wheelbarrow to D&J. I was right in saying it was one continuous shot.

Posted by: pmyers

I love the clowns but they are going to have to start being more agressive (not helping the other teams) to be able to win this. I predict their being nice will be the end of them in this race.
