This looks promising for fans of British Sci-Fi:

...Now if they would only bring back Doctor Who... :)

I hope BBCA will pick it up. I would like to have them put the original's back on. My videotapes are in very bad condition, one has broke(I have not taken it apart to try and fix) I would love to get them burned on my D-V-D ;) recorder.

Series 1 is being has a DVD release date of 27 Oct.

Caveats:

A. It has been delayed two or three times already so no telling if it will actually make it this time.

B. It is region 2, PAL

If it does come out, I might wait for a R1 version. I do have an APEX dvd player that I can change regions, so I could still get it and watch it, but would rather have a R1 set so I could watch it on my others players.

No guarantee that it will ever be released in R1/NTSC version.

BFS Multimedia has the North American liscense for Blake's 7; they are the people who put out the VHS versions. They keep saying that they are planning on releasing a DVD set but have not set a release date and there is no mention of it on their web site.

I made my first overseas credit card purchase to order the Region 2 release. And a few others besides, including the Doctor Who movie starring Paul McGann, They Live and Flash Gordon which are out of print in region 1, series 1 of The Tomorrow People, and Children of the Stones, all from amazon.co.uk. Then I can finally delete three of them from my TiVos.

I just have to figure out how to watch them. So far no luck upgrading the firmware of my DVD player using Mac-burned CDs. Guess I'll have to try the PC.

When Blake's 7 was originally run on PBS in Dallas, it ran 5 nights a week at some wierd time that required me to learn to program my newfangled gadget, a VCR. After the first run, they had a telethon to raise money with the B7 fanclub on the phones. All during the telethon the host kept talking about how much money they spent to acquire the show. At the end of the night, they had raised about 200 bucks.

It was never aired again.

Blakes' 7, The Tomorrow People and Children of the Stones. I remember watching them first run in England in the late 70s. Gotta say I didn't care too much for The Tomorrow People, though.

If you ever go to UK, visit the Aylesbury site where they shot Children of the Stones. The village and the stone circle actually exist. It's pretty awe inspiring.

For me The Tomorrow People and Children of the Stones bring back memories of watching Nickelodeon when it was young. And Danger Mouse and Bananaman. And 30 minutes blocks of programming without a commercial interruption in the middle. Educational bits like the segments on the constellation of Orion and the moons of Jupiter. Occasionally a music video: ♪ Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum! ♪. And constantly drilling into me the time zones: "8 PM Eastern, 7 PM Central, 6 PM Mountain, 5 PM Pacific".

The new The Tomorrow People series wasn't as interesting to me though. I guess I missed Tim, their talking computer. What the new series had for that apparently didn't communicate with words.

Anyone besides me notice the many similarities between Blake's 7 and Farscape? I doubt it was deliberate, but they are similar in spirit and theme (I loved both). B7 at least got the chance to end itself on it's own terms, though. :(

I saw Blake's 7 on PBS and still think that the way it ended was maybe the best ending I've ever seen on a TV series. I would love to see it on DVD.

That reminds me...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

How can the story of Blakes 7 continue given that everyone died at the end of the last episode?

Regardless, I've always felt that the final episode of Blakes 7 was the all-time best final episode of any science fiction show ever made (so far).

Well...
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Not all the main cast were killed. We don't know where Avon hid Orac before the last confrontation, we heard multiple shots from Avon's weapon with varying stereo effects, and what of Servalan/Sleer?

HTH
You'er right on the money.

Quote from the link

"The new mini-series will pick up the story 25 years on, but Darrow will be the only original cast member to return. "

I participated in the thread on slashdot (I'm HTH NE1 there). I still think they should get Peter Tuddenham and Jacqueline Pierce involved, though I haven't seen what she looks like lately. Most recent photo from a GIS (linked to larger version):

Oh yes, the date: July 8, 2000.

Some make-up and she would look as sexy as she did all those many years ago. :D

For you people that never seen the show I hope the DVD comes out soon. The BBC is great at showing that a very good story line an great cast members can make up for sub par FX.
