Last Comic Standing - 7/29/03

Well, I think Ralphie is going to walk away with this thing. I think he definately had the best routine tonight with Dat not far behind. The other 3 were very dissapointing....

Ralpie's been my pick since day one. I didn't really care for anyone else's routine, except for Tess. She really surprised me. I don't really care for her type of comedy, but I can appreciate how well she does it.

Been trying to call in and vote for Ralphie for the past ten minutes and haven't gotten through yet...

Wow, I thought that both Ralphie and Tess bombed, basically doing the same stuff they've done before. Particularly Tess.

Dat again had too much of the accents, but he had my favorite joke of the night - the last one where he made fun of people who make fun of Asian accents. Not only was it ironic (whether or not it was intended to be so), but the random noun thing really made me giggle. Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor, though.

I have to say none of them grabbed me tonight. I always thought Ralph was the funniest one, but his rant about oil was kind of dated, and it was more of a rant then terribly funny.

Can't say any of them blew me away. The whole time watching I was wondering how they would wrap this up if voting was going to be after the show... Now I know the finale will be 2 hours my mind is boggled. How they can make the finale of this to announce the winner two hours long is painful just to think about.

But I was one of the ones who wanted to see the behind the scenes stuff more then the stand-up. :)

I don't really know if people will vote on who is the funniest or on who they like the best based on the whole series. Maybe that was the point in any case (otherwise only one episode of the show would have been needed).

I'm a big fan of "rant comedy" so I really enjoyed Ralphie's set. (My all-time most favorite comic was and still is Sam Kinison, king of the rant!) And this is the first time I've liked Ralphie. The "white boy in the hood" comedy he's done up till now just didn't ring true with me.

One of my favorites, Dat Phan, let me down tonight though. He really needs to stay away from the bits about his momma's crazy accent. Half the time he overdoes the accent so much you can't understand what he's saying. Kind of hard to be funny that way. He did very little of that in his set against Dave Mordal and was much funnier than he was tonight.

IMO Tess was awful. Can't say much more about that. YMMV

Rich Voss is a very funny guy, and his set contained really funny material, but something was wrong with his delivery. I don't know if it was stage fright or what.

And finally Cory was as funny and as unflappable as usual. Of all of the last comics standing, she is the one that seems to find comedy effortless. Funny stuff just rolls out, and while her sets don't always leave you rolling in the floor, she doesn't seem to ever do a bit that bombs.

I'll most likely vote for Rich or Cory. Cory's the funniest I think, but I kind of want to see Rich win. Just feel like a guy who's been telling jokes for a living for as long as he has, deserves to finally get a break.

I thought that Tess and Ralphie did the best routines. So I voted by phone for Tess (no problem getting through) and Ralphie by web.

VERY poor show tonight. Ralphie ranted, Tess was nowhere near as funny as previously, Dat's act wore thin. Rich looked so scared up there. He's been doing this for how long? I wanted to laugh but he just couldn't relax and deliver it right. Ditto on Cory making it seem effortless, she was great. One more thing....

RALPHIE FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

Posted by: coldtoes

Agreed - no one was as funny as they could have been. I actually thought Rich was the funniest last night, followed by Cory and then Ralphie. I was surprised, because Ralphie was my favorite of the remaining comics (and, I thought, second funniest of all the comics we've seen on the show) so I assumed I'd be voting for him.

Anybody got the number I can call to vote for Dave Mordal? :D

I spent my votes on Cory. Her "on top, on bottom, alone" bit was laugh out loud funny and the bits about the new husband were giggly funny. "The Eminem" bit is getting tired, but at least she didn't go into her daughter being all "gangsta" all the time. I thought Dat was next funniest. Rich had funny material, but it didn't work for him. Tess and Ralphie just didn't cut it for me. I thought they had more potential than we saw last night.

Due to torrential rain in Phoenix last night my satellite went down and I only saw from Tess on. I'll have to catch the Comedy Central rerun to see Ralphie and Dat. Of the ones I saw, I didn't really care for any of them too much.

Funny how everyone has different opinions on what's funny. I thought Cory was the best in both material and delivery. Voss had good material but he's more funny off the cuff (Touch Crowd w/ Colin Quinn) and not in front of a crowd. One trick pony Dat was back to that trick. Tess regurgitated every "fat, black voluptuous" routine I've seen (but not as funny) and Ralphie spent 3 of the 5 minutes on the whole cheap gas rant. He had a much funnier set on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

I thought the previous shows with "in the house" clips were better.

NBC should give the gig to Dave Mordal.

I vote for Dave too. The only one who could do a sitcom or a improv show.

I agree, give it to Dave. Rob Cantrell would be interesting too. However, for the final, I have to give it up for Rich Voss. I really disliked him for the entire series, but he made me laugh the most. Ralphie made me laugh, but I think it got too political for me.

My preference last night:

1. Dave (and he didn't even perform)
2. Rich
3. Cory
4. Dat (My pre-show favorite had problems tonight)
5. Ralphie
...
92. Tess (I really didn't like her set)

Tess was by far the worst I've ever seen.

I'd give it to Rich, but only for the tail end of his routine. He started off bad, but settled down toward the end when he started talking about his daughter being evil.

Wow, I guess it's all a matter of opinion, but I don't see how ANYONE can think Ralphie didn't win that thing last night.

The audience was standing in applause during his set, I was rolling on the floor...he was friggin hilarious.

Dat Phan sucks...he goes on and on about his mom in that accent...it loses its humor quickly. Funny thing was, we had a break in the show cause of storms in AZ, they went to the weather, and came back in 30-40 seconds, and Dat was STILL talking about his mom...ugh.

No one else was as funny as Ralphie. Voss, who I like, seemed nervous.

Anyways, pulling for Ralphie all the way.

I wish Voss stuck to his audience bashing bits. I loved how in the middle of his set he went at the pale guy for NO REASON.. Just attacked him. That was his best stuff. Just wish he did more of it.

I think Rich or Ralphie deserve it. If Ross won , I think they woudl piegon hole him into the typical sitcom and it would suck. Ralphie might be able to bring something new/funny to NBC so I hope he wins.

I agree that Dave M or Rob Cantrall would be my choice to get a sitcom though. Both different and would bring something different to the front..

I thought that Ralphie, Dat and Tess all had much weaker sets than I have seen in the past. Much much weaker. I thought it was a bad night for them. Rich I have never thought was at all funny and nothing changed. I think his set might have been weaker than previous ones too, but it is too hard for me to judge since his style just does nothing for me. I thought Cory was not only the best set of the night but that she did far better than I have seen her do in the past, I still don't find her particularly funny, but at least she didn't talk about her daughter much.

Probably the difference between east coast and everywhere else humor. I didn't think Voss was funny at all, and the heckling bit had absolutely nothing to do with his set.

Tess was the least funniest of the bunch.
