Question DSR6000 Upgrade

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a old friend who moved away several years ago. We've stayed in contact and were talking last night we got to talking about Tivo. I mentioned that I upgraded mine - well he's got the bug too. He's not computer savy and he asked me to upgrade his unit. Problem is I have a Tivo HDR212 and he as a DSR6000.

Question is - can I use the HDR212 image to create a drive that he can just install into his DSR6000? If not, then if he ships me his DSR6000 unit can I use the unit to verify that the drive installed correctly? I didn't know if I could use the DSR6000 and actually see anything without having a DIRECTV connection.

Anyone have suggestion as to how best to do this?

No you can't use any image other than a DSR6000 image with a DSR6000. You can download an image for a DSR6000 and prepare a drive or 2 drives for use with a DSR6000 and ship him the drive(s) with simple instructions to install them in the DSR6000. That would be much cheaper than shipping the DSR6000 back and forth.

I got an image from a "friend", same "friend" that everyone uses :)

Anyways, did the install and shipped out the drive. The unit won't get past the "Powering up" screen. In reading Hinsdale it mentions about a need to set runideturbo=false. I don't know if the image that the "friend" has is the version that needs to have this set - any ideas if our "friends" image needs to have runideturbo=false set?
