What, no Cupid thread?
I was a little overwhelmed last night with Big Brother, American Juniors and Cupid, but thanks to Tivo, I got through them all.
I am bored with American Juniors, but Cupid is actually a great example of the reality genre.
My thought is that if this gal is willing to let us make the decision for her about whom to marry, let's make her work for it. Let's vote Robert A. (The fitness model with the thick accent) all the way through. That way, if she wants the million bucks, she has to marry him. Ha ha!!!
Hey, if she really likes a different guy, nothing is stopping her from turning down the money and going for the guy she really likes.
Posted by: TivoDaddy
I watch bits and pieces of this show, mostly because it's still in the buffer after TAR4, BB4, etc.
I think Robert A. is very sincere, and that accent is just hilarious. Who got kicked out yesterday?
But if she's relying on her two "best friends" to make important decisions, she deserves the type of guy those two would pick. No wonder she's still single. Those two have probably already blown off very good potential husbands and didn't kiss their sorry assess.
Posted by: DLiquid
If they were voting people out, that Robert guy would be out this week for sure. Since they're voting people in, my guess is Robert will stick around for a while. He's definite comic relief.
Posted by: retrodog
Robert A. (or Ahhh-nuld Jr.) is very funny but was a little boring last night. He doesn't really fit in with anybody. The other guys think he is a tacky geek (with muscles) and they don't want to be tainted with his rep. He's kinda out there in left field all by himself.
But I agree with drumorgan, in that this should be more of a "For Love or Money" type of decision. That would be a hoot. ;)
Posted by: jennifer
When do we find out who got booted?
Posted by: retrodog
Well it is sorta like American Idol. Everybody voted last night, after the show. I guess we find out next Tuesday at the beginning of the show,,, maybe.
Posted by: dthmj
Yeah, they said next week one guy would get dumped on national TV.
Don't know if they know who it is, and she won't have a date with him this week (meaning, she'll know and the guy will know before next week's episode), or if she has to date everyone a second time.
I don't know all their names, but it appeared she really had a good connection with the guy who had the first picnic...

I forgot that dude's name but he's far and away my favorite!!
Posted by: drumorgan
/me sheepishly offers the name "Hank", revealing just how into this show he is.
Posted by: drumorgan
OK, once again, Robert A. made it through. He looked a little sad and pathetic last night, and I felt bad that we as a country are using him for our entertainment. Nah, I'm OK now.
But, I'm telling you, we should put him all the way through just for the pure entertainment and to see what happens if he makes it to the end. If she wants to go on national television and have America choose a husband for her, then she deserves him. Haha
Posted by: laria
I felt bad for Robert A. too, he just looked sad and confused. But people really need to stop voting for him! She might end up having to marry him!
I voted for Hank again. Robert A., Renda, and Ken are my least favorites.
Posted by: drumorgan
No, that is the idea! I voted for Robert A. till my finger got a blister.
I agree, Renda and Ken should go.
I'm glad they got rid of the kisser.
Hey, if I don't kiss you, my head will explode. <lunges with tongue> lelelelelelelelele!
Posted by: Tabitha573
Hank is BY FAR the best guy on the show, even though he isn't as good looking as Dominick.
If Robert A. makes it through another week, I'm going to have to stop watching. I can't stand the guy....
Posted by: drumorgan
I love it when a plan comes together!
Ha Ha. all my voting for Robert A. is paying off. Did you see how upset those gals were? That just tickles me to death.
They really think they are there to find her a good husband? Um, hate to tell you, but try your church, or school to find a good person. If you go on national television and ask America to find you a husband, you get what you deserve.
I don't feel sorry one bit for those girls. They will make a lot of money from this, ($1 mil to be exact) and Laura will get some commercial deal with the character she has honed. But, for my money, you need to give me some entertainment. Squirming in your seat while I put through Robert A. is perfect. Now, dance for me, puppet, while I pull the strings.
;)
Posted by: laria
They don't get any money if they don't a) get married or b) stay married for a year. If Robert A. makes it through, I doubt she will marry him. Exactly what money are you paying to watch the show?
God forbid anyone try and play the game the way it was intended to be played.
Posted by: drumorgan
Don't take it personally. I really doubt my little fingers can actually affect the game. America must think the same way I do.
But, seriously. It is just that... a game. Marriage, IMHO is anything but. I take my marriage very seriously. I think if you are going to come on television and mock it, then I can enjoy myself a little when it doesn't turn out the way you want.
Hey, if you really love someone, marry them. Nobody offered me a million to marry my wife. I did it because I love her. If Robert A. goes through, then she will have to decide if it really means that much to her, too.
Marry the one you love, or take the money and expose yourself as a fraud.
Wasn't there another show that took that stand, For love or money?
Posted by: DLiquid
Hey, she did pick Robert A to be one of the finalists, right? It's her own fault. The guy's act is working beautifully, and the ugly stepsisters don't even seem to get it. Their outrage last night played right into Robert A's plan, and he'll get more votes because of it. It's pretty comical, if you ask me.
Posted by: bobbi
Has anyone else thought about the fact that they vote off one guy, AND show "dates" with the guys left on the same show?
I'm wondering if she goes on dates with everyone, and they just don't show who got voted off, or do they just not have her go on a date with the guy who will be thrown off (and does she fake the shocked face). :)
Posted by: drumorgan
I've definitely thought about it. I think they have to date them all and just scrap the tape of the evicted suitor.
But, my question is, what happened tonight? I missed it. Tivo got some other show instead. My fault, but I really want to know what the reaction was when Robert A. made it through. Was he even in the bottom three?
I think America is in on my little joke.

You & America must be playing the same little joke as Robert made it through and wasn't in the bottom 3. Ken was voted off.
The dates this week were trips home so Lisa got to meet everyone's friends and family. Robert didn't even seem so annoying surrounded by people who liked him. :)
I can't believe I'm admitting to watching this show !
Posted by: drumorgan
Ha ha! Thanks for the update. I'll make sure Tivo is set for this next week. But, my prediction is that America will send Robert A. to the end. That is too funny.
Did Laura get mad when he stayed?
Posted by: dthmj
Not really... they were rather soft on him this week.
Posted by: drumorgan
I don't think I need to mention that my plan is working perfectly.
Did you notice that even Hank said HIS friends are voting for Robert A.
But, now that he is becoming more likeable, it just doesn't seem as satisfying. How about if we make her marry Renda and do the circus freak show/poetry thing. Hehe
Also, was it creepy at all that Joe admitted he really liked Laura after he was voted off? Not very gentlemanly.
Posted by: Skittles
I swear that America is going the masochistic route and voting for Robert A. to keep him, just to help make the show entertaining.
I voted for him, at least. :)
Posted by: dthmj
How is this show going to end?
This week they said "in two weeks" she'll marry someone on this stage... There were 5 guys left... So next week there will be 4, and then on the "Wedding" day there will be 3. Will she get her choice of three of them?
I think that would be more fair for her - less fun for us. Better chance for Hank - though I don't think he has much to worry about. I think the nicer they are to Robert, the less votes he'll get - he may even be on his way out this week.
But I predict Evan will be the one to go.

The Robert A for Husband thing is actually becoming quite a talked about phenomenom on the web. A google search will turn up quite a few web sites discussing this at length for someone stupid enough to put herself in the publics hands and let them pick the outcome.
It was in the New york Post too. Read about it here.

Link should work now... there was a period at the end that kept giving me a 404 error...

I've never watched Cupid but after hearing about this Robert campaign all over the web, I'm going to check it out next week.
From what I've read, a lot of people were really put off by the nasty attitudes of the 2 girlfriends, and this is their "payback", sticking her with Robert.
It also seems that this past week Lisa and her girlfriends are trying to use reverse psychology on the viewers by acting like Robert isn't all that bad, hoping people won't vote for him then. It doesn't seem to be working =)
Check out TWoP for a LOT of discussion about this whole issue.
Posted by: Fofer
I was first exposed to Robert on an episode of "Blind Date" about a year ago. I remember it well, he was paired up with a bimbo who was given a "second chance" after she ****teased a poor schlub in the hot tub on her first date.
Anyway, on this date, Robert commented on how "huge her boobies" were... with his thick accent it was ridiculous. And they ended up (basically) having sex on camera.
Apparently Robert hasn't toned down his act for "Cupid"...
Did anyone else see this episode of Blind Date? Funny to see the same people get recycled on different reality shows...
Posted by: Patrickcg
So after she has said she wants hank- do you all still hope America votes for Robert?
Posted by: dthmj
I think the most fabulous ending to this show would be for "America" to pick Robert, but for Lisa to turn down the offer to marry him, and go with Hank. True love wins over money...
So "America" will think they won - they got Robert through... but in reality, Lisa will have won the man she wanted.
Posted by: laria
I think they changed the show because of the Robert A. phenomenon. I am pretty sure that America was supposed to vote right up until the end...but now I get the impression that next week they will choose someone from the final 3. You know they want the show to end with a wedding, and there was no way she was going to marry Robert A. :)
Posted by: drumorgan
dthmj, I agree with you. I will still vote for Robert, but I think that she should pick Hank to marry and walk away from the money. She'll make plenty of money in some commercial after this.
Laria, I really think so too. I didn't hear about this, but I think that they must have changed it on us.
Posted by: Skittles
I haven't watched the show yet, but now I'm curious about what was changed last night. Can someone let me know what happened (in spoiler tags, just in case anyone doesn't want to know)?
Posted by: dthmj
Nothing was "changed" - the show was the same this week as it's been every week.
But, we had 4 left this week - if they eliminate one more next week - that will be 3 left, and they could have changed it (speculation, not spoiler) so that Lisa gets to pick from the remaining three.

Yes that is what I meant. The format of the show is still the same, but I am pretty sure we were supposed to vote on the final guy just like American Idol, not vote up to the last 3.
Posted by: ElVee
Is it just me, or is the host, Brian McFayden, the most annoying guy on the planet? He's smug and obnoxious. My wife wants to jump through the TV and beat him with the broken arrows.
Posted by: Skittles
OK, glad to hear the format wasn't changed. I didn't get a chance to vote for Robert A. this week, so it's good to know that they haven't messed with anything.
Robert A for the finals!
Posted by: dthmj
I'm a traditionalist - I tried to vote for Hank... I spent two hours hitting redial, but never did get through...
Posted by: drumorgan
Well, there is the problem. Same thing with the last American Idol. When the phone lines are full, the winner is not the one with the most callers, it is the one who happens to have people hang up quicker. It will be "very close", but only because the phones are at capacity.
Anyone else have a problem with Lisa wanting to be an at-home mother, while picking a guy who told her that she would have to work. I am all for people making their own life choices about their roles in the family. But, these are issues that don't go away if you ignore them. If two people want two opposing things, they need to seriously work on them before they get married on television.

Maybe they have worked on their issues - we saw what, three and a half minutes of a 24 hour date (and at least from the editing, it appeared she spent the night with him). I'm sure they talked about a lot of things on that date we didn't see.
I'm sure Lisa is better able to choose the man she wants to marry than America is - and if America chooses Robert, and she picks Hank - it will make great TV.

I'm not really watching this show anymore, but I catch a bit of it from time to time.. I saw a little bit yesterday.. What is the name of the Austrian guy? His "fantasy date" seemed to go badly, and she didn't have good thigns to say to him infront of the audience. The mean, evl side of me wants me to see her get stuck with him. Kind of a that's what you deserve for going on TV to get a man sorta thing...
But what is the deal here?? Lisa is a total babe. Very gorgeous.. From what I have seen, she seems like a pretty nice girl. How come girls like her go on TV to play some game? They SHOULD be coing to ME! ;) :D

The Austrian guy is Robert A.
As far as Lisa is concerned, I agree, she's a total babe. The problem with her is that she needs to dump her two loser friends. What sane guy would want to go out with someone that has shallow friends like that?!
Posted by: Patrickcg
The only thing that changed is next week, instead of the guy with the least amount of votes getting booted, the man with the most votes will have the chance to wed Ms Shannon on the tele. And if they stayed married one year yada yada yada....

I agree. I really want to see Robert win it, just for the entertainment factor.
It did seem to me that in Tuesday's episode everyone on the show (stepsisters as well as the other contestants) was trying to steer America toward the Hank vote. Robert played a very clever game but I'm thinking that in the end he was either paid off or persuaded to back down so that the show could have its happy ending. Let's see if it works! :p
Posted by: Fofer
Hmm, that ending was weird. After all that...?
Posted by: rich
Yep, that was weird.
I've known some couples who come from different regions and get married in one place but then go to the other place for another ceremony or at least a reception, so that both sets of friends and families can easily attend. For a million bucks, I'd sure consider something like that.
Posted by: Skittles
What a letdown.
Yes, granted, they seem to have found a deep love for each other, and that's really great.. but did both of them just forget the whole purpose of why they were doing this?
In a strange, twisted way, I'm kind of glad this did poorly in the ratings.

OK...what the heck happened? Like an idiot, I didn't record it last night...I know, I know...tivo...season pass...blah, blah, blah. I never did set up a season pass because I didn't want to have to delete the season pass when it was over. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!

Four potential grooms were left: Evan, Dominic, Hank and Robert. Dominic was eliminated first, then Evan. Finally it was down to Robert and Hank, and then they announced that Hank was the winner. When it came time to tie the knot, Hank said that he wanted to marry Lisa, but not on the show, because they wanted time to get their families and friends together and do it properly. So apparently they will get married, but they forfeited the million dollar dowry because they didn't get married on the show. They said that they had talked about this in advance and had agreed that this was how they wanted to do it. The host was left standing there dumbfounded.
Posted by: dthmj
I'll spoilerize it just in case...
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
After having to sit through the annoying host booting one guy off at a time (first Dominic, then Evan, or was it Evan then Dominic?), we get down to the final two.... Hank and Robert. Hank wins!
We then go to a commercial break... When we get back there is a pastor type guy and Lisa comes down with her father... The pastor asks Hank if he takes Lisa, blah blah blah, and he says no..... He wants to give Lisa a private wedding that she plans with her family , and not be on TV in front of strangers - or something like that. Hank and Lisa had obviously already talked about it and decided they would forfeit the million dollars to have a private wedding.
Would have been more fun had Robert won and Lisa got to tell him to go back to Austria and her and Hank run off together...
Posted by: emily
How uneventful...I'm glad I didn't waste the 40 minutes of my life.
Posted by: Fofer
Actually, when the host started with his questions, it seemed like he was ANGRY about it! I wonder if the producers were surprised.
In a sense, I think Lisa and Hank didn't want the rushed wedding, and then the scrutiny of the "one-year committment" hanging over their heads. This way, they could live their lives a little bit more normally.
But still -- for a million dollars? Sheesh, throw yourself a nice, private ceremony three months from now. If you end up not liking each other, just stick it out for 9 more months! It's a million dollars!
What was weird was that the "ceremony" was this rushed, awkward thing. CBS, how about spending just a little bit of those advertising dollars and have a really extravagant finale, with a beautiful wedding proceeding (not some cheesy pastor-for-hire rushed onto the stage?) And why would the winner HAVE to get married on the show to win the million? If this couple gets married on their own three weeks from now, and stays married for the rest of their lives, why should they have been deprived of the prize Hank won?
The whole thing just seemed bizarre and strange -- the host was disappointed and the audience was confused. Wasn't this whole thing supposed to end with a marriage and a $1 million dowry? (Or, at least, a funny winner that Lisa would reject.)
What an awkward concept. The host said "see you next season," why do I have a feeling that's the last we're seeing of him AND "Cupid?"

Why did they wait until the final five minutes of the show for the whole marriage ceremony thing? Couldn't they have found a clip or two to omit? Even if they had gone through with it, five minutes would have seemed awfully rushed.
Even on "Married by America" the show took the time to arrange for proper ceremonies with all of the friends and families in attendance.
I think that if Hank and Lisa get married sometime soon and stay married for a year, they oughta get their million. The producers should have given them a proper ceremony.
Posted by: bobbi
I totally agree with it seeming terribly rushed.
I also wonder if Robert had won, would they have TOLD us he won? Or would they have said Hank won anyway? I dunno, but it all seemed to tie up just a little too neatly for me.
I also wonder how horrified Lisa's parents must be at what she's done...finding the love of your life on national television based on the votes of the nation? Gah.

I kinda liked the ending too. Their love for each other is more important than any amount of money and they thought this was the proper thing to do to demonstrate this to themselves, friends and family. I don't know if I would have done the same, but I respect their decision.

Finding a guy and getting married on the show. That's the way they've been billing it for weeks.
If she didn't think she could have a sudden marriage at the end of the show, why be on it to begin with?
Posted by: jkindley
I knew they were not going to get married when there was only a couple of minutes left in the show ( Damn SPS9S Clock ). I assume Hank and Lisa discussed this ahead of time and let the producers know that the answer was going to be "not tonight".
That said, I now wish Robert A. won it :D

Good question!
Maybe she was enticed by the fleeting fame? Who knows? All told, I think the ending was weird. Take the quickie wedding, take the money, and throw yourself a "real" lavish (and private) wedding later.
Posted by: DLiquid
Ah, what a lame ass ending! It seemed to me like Hank and Lisa were trying to save face. Yes, they signed up for a trashy matchmaking game show, but let's declare that our true love is more important than the show . They knew what they signed up for, and from my perspective their "real wedding is more important than $1mil" speech just showed how dumb they are.
And there was only five minutes left in the live show! Five minutes for a million dollars! What in the world were they thinking? IMO, true love goes way beyond a piece of paper saying you're legally married. Just say the I do's and have your real wedding later on, simple. If the money isn't important to you, then spend the $1mil-tax on your real wedding a year from now. Now THAT would be a very special wedding that they would never forget, and it would take at least a year to plan it anyway. LOL!

I imagine that both Hank and Lisa are doing very well financially. I don't understand why people are annoyed at them for not taking the money and going ahead with a cheesy televised wedding. It was an option and they didn't choose that option. They are not paid actors and can't be expected to do what provides the most entertainment value.

But the whole show was cheesy. It just seemed to me like they thought that forfeiting one million dollars and not going through with the cheesy wedding could make up for the fact that they met each other on a cheesy show. They seemed to be trying to prove to the world that their love is true. But if they truly love each other, then why would they need to prove it to anyone?
They might be doing well financially, but I'd expect someone who is financially prudent to take $1 million for 5 minutes of work (3 minutes with commercials :p).
