I have recently tried to update both of my Directivo DSR6000 receivers. One was a single hd that I successfully blessed another drive to over a year ago. The other was a virgin with two factory hd. Following Hinsdales excellent instructions I was able to hookup and detect both hard drives with their correct sizes (from both receivers) . However, after mounting my dos drive and successfully starting the backup using mfstools it will appear to be backing up for several minutes before reporting that it has experienced a failure! It creats a tivo.bak file but it is not usable to create a drive image. I reealize that I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

That sounds like a bad block. Run diagnostics. It may be able to repair the disk well enough for MFS Tools to complete.
