Swapping drives

I have a new Series 2 SA (80hr) and I just purchased a Directivo (35hr) because I dumped Comcast. Can I simply swap drives so I have the 80 hr in the Directivo and vice-versa?

You'd need to put the correct version of the TiVo system software on the drives as described in Hinsdale's post at the top. This won't be a problem for the DTiVo, but you won't be able to fit the Series 2's image on to the smaller disk. You'll need to buy at least one >=80Gb hard drive.

So if I understand you correctly, once the S2 drive is placed in the Directivo thats fine, bigger and ready to go. But, in order to correctly run the S2 I will need to pur a bigger drive in it?

Yes, you can't shrink a TiVo image to fit on a smaller drive, so you can't use the DTiVo's drive as an A drive in the S2.

It is because you have to copy the software between the drives for them to work. The 35hr DirecTiVo image will fit on the 80hr Series2 drive, but the 80hr Series2 image won't fit on the 35hr drive.
To just swap the drives, you'd need a smaller Series2 image that would fit on the smaller drive. I don't recall the GB capacity to be sure (hrs aren't equivalent between standlones and combos).
