mounting the 4th partition for telnet/ftp

I'm upgrading my harddrive to a single 120gb and adding a turbonet card. Both the card and the upgrade are complete and working fine. However, I can't seem to get the fourth partition (/dev/hdd4) to mount. I get the common "need to specify filesystem type" error. hdd7 mounts fine.

I've tried using tyger's disk with the vmlnodma and hdd=dswap flags at boot, as well as Kazymyrs iso.

As it looks like this is a mirrored partition, can I just add it to seven, and it'll get around to syncing 4? I've seen hints of that on the boards, but no one comes right out and says it.

Partition 4 is blank at the moment (because you've restored an MFS Tools backup on to a blank disk). When a software upgrade comes in, the TiVo formats the inactive root partition and installs the new software load on it. When this has completed it rewrites the boot-block so that the formerly inactive kernel and root partitions will be used the next time the TiVo boots. Then it triggers a reboot and thus loads the new software.

Therefore your actual root partition might be 7 or 4 depending on how many software upgrades have happened. There's no point in modifying your inactive root partitions as it'll be reformatted when an update comes in anyway.

Not that any software upgrades are expected for Series 1 TiVoes any time soon.
