I haven't seen this on any list of even remotely coming features - but this is more a "Hey - has anyone at TiVo ever even discussed this"?

What I would like to see is a feature that lets me crop small pieces out of a program and save them.

For example, I wanted to save a short 45 second piece out of one Whose Line is it Anyway episodes to have hanging around for awhile to look at. I really don't want to keep the entire 30 minutes around, just that small piece. Would be nice if I could pick out that piece and say "Save this clip" - perhaps a subfolder of Now Showing for these things, or even "My Clips" on the main menu.

Has this ever even been discussed at TiVo? Richard?

I am sure they don't want this to be a video editing box, but there are a few seemingly easy to provide features that I think would allow most anyone to do what they want.

1) Copy Program
2) Rename Program
3) Delete from Beginning to current
4) Delete from current to end

One of the most needed reasons for this feature is dealing with sports programs. With a delete from here to end I can comfortably let TiVo record extra time in case of over time and them delete any unecessary programming quickly instead of having all the extra programming eat up my recording time until I watch the event.

The one thing lacking here would be the ability to crop out commercials which I am guessing TiVo doesn't want to allw. (Personally I would like that and a 30sec skip!)

Adding editing features would certainly be a plus against future competitors, but I guess they are concentrating on the main recording features at the moment.

You could implement an Edit menu off the main menu of each program (where Delete is). Then you would have a Delete Part of Recording option which allowed you to enter start/stop times to delete (require multiple uses of the menu option). But delete would allow cutting out of commercials. If this is a real problem, then you could just have a 'Keep Only Part of Recording' and have start stop times - allows saving small segments or cutting off beginning/ending parts that aren't the show, but leaves the in-show commercials alone.

The 'Change Program Name' could also be under Edit, along with Delete - though hiding Delete under 2 menus would be a real pain (aside from the clear/select quick Delete coming up).

Not sure what the copy program would be used for (except to make a backup before editing).

Trouble with all the editing and keeping of shows is that if the disk goes, you lose everything. A lot to risk. Guess you need to do a backup to tape (which might be the whole point of cropping shows for some).
