Home Media Publisher problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently purchased and installed the home media option. I then installed the tivo published and published a few songs and photos. All worked ok, So I published the rest of my mp3 file, about 3000. Trouble:confused: Apparently there is a limit on the number of mp3 file the publishe3r can use. Now my publisher won't operate or let me unpublish the files.

It now continues to flash the hourglass on and off and won't respond to unpublish or select commands. I have unloaded the programs a dozen times, deleted all references to tivo from reg edit. restarted between each time. Each time I reinstall the program the published file list reappears and as soon as it does the program, but not the machine locks up and the hour glass apears on and off. and I have to used cntrl alt del to close the program. Every other function and program works fine.

THere has to be a file somewhere that isn't named tivo, that the published looks to for a list of published files,. Does anyone know where that is or what it's called?

I worked with tech support for a couple hours until they finally said they couldn't help and I should call Dell, the PC maker or I should get on line withe the support forums and have someone here help, but they couldn't help anymore.

Also, what is the limiting factor on the number of files or size that can be published without this happening? I assume it maybe the cache limitation set at 500mb in the publisher, but really have no clue.
I have a pentium IV, Dell, with XP Professional.

Final Solution to my problem. Reloaded Windows XP from scratch. reloaded software. Although it took a lot of time to do this, it was the only solution I found.

If it's not too late now, this may help:

When you publish a file or folder, it is stored as a link in your profile area, e.g.

C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\TiVo Desktop\Music

You can actually add and remove links in this folder, but clearly this is a backdoor way of controlling the published material, so it may not behave properly.

On the point of large numbers of mp3's in a single folder, one solution would be to let Windows Media Player index the files - under the option to search for music - then you could use a plug-in that I wrote that allows you to publish a WML file that gives access to the Windows Media Library so you can navigate by Artist, Album, Genre. This will work more effectively if your mp3's have decent tags. All the details in this thread.

Sure enough, there they are. At least if this happens to someone else they now have a referenced resoucre and solution. thanks Jem.

On the new image, I'm filling everything in folders and the publishing the folders or play lists. Seems to work fine.
