Stock Tivo Fan to 12V

Hi Everyone--
Lots of talk about hooking the stock Tivo fan up to the 12v power supply... How exactly does one do that??? I understand the Y-spitter but how 'bout the actual connections? Is there an adapter you need to get or do you splice the wires somehow--if so how? If I remember there are only 2(?) wires going to the motherboard...
As backround I have an ATT (comcast) Series2 Standalone that has been upgraded to 2 160GB Maxtor 5400 hard drives. With that being said--is there a problem splitting the power to the harddrive again (having already been done once when the second drive was added)?
So in a nutshell:
1.) How do you hook a stock Tivo fan to 12V
2.) Can the power supply handle 2 Hard Drives and a 12v Fan?
Thanks again guys--this site is a lifesaver!!!

First check the voltage at the header where the fan currently connects, I am not familiar with the ATT model. If it already is 12V there's no sense in going any further, if it's 7V then connecting the fan to 12V will move more air but be warned, it may be way too loud.
That said use a Y-cable off the disk drive power, I doubt very much that connecting the fan there will overload the power supply, even with two disks, but there is always that possibility. I really really doubt they cut it THAT close though.
You can splice and I recommend solder also, the wires together or pick up the proper connector at your local Radio Shack and crimp and once again solder (because you probably don't have the proper crimp tool for the pins) the pins onto the wires.
Now when you insert the pins into the housing or splice the wire together the black goes to black and the RED from the FAN goes to the YELLOW on the Y-cable.
Also note the direction the fan is blowing the air BEFORE you start and make sure the fan is blowing the air in that SAME direction when you are done.

Blankman--
Thank you for the information!

You can rig it up, but I wussed out and used the "Smart Adapter" from this page: http://www.1coolpc.com/accessories.htm , since I was ordering some other stuff anyways.
