My TiVo is Dead-o.

I, too, have suffered the wrath of the failed internal modem. After having decided against replacing the transistors, I chose to buy an external modem. Using Dan's write-up as a guide, I ran out and purchased a cheapy $25.00 CompUSA special.

After a few hours of tinkering with it, and a few minutes of heavy expletive usage, I determined that the damn thing didn't have a writeable NVRAM. So, I brought the modem back to CompUSA; needless to say, they refused to return it and give me a charge-back to my credit card.

I was (surprise, surprise) forced into getting a $99.00 US Robotics modem as it was the only other external modem there. There really was nothing else in the store I'd care to blow money on, either.

The good news is that I sent all the hyperterminal'ed commands to the modem and all were accepted just fine. I flipped the dip switch for Terminal Override and expect to have a fully working TiVo when I go home tonight.

Three days without TiVo and my wife and I were really starting to feel the burn.

Quick question, I have the series one DB9 male-ended cable and a 1' DB9 female to DB25 male modem cable - Can I just hook the TiVo cable to the modem cable to the modem?
