Shatner wants to create a new TREK series

short blurb here
quote:
The man who played Captain Kirk has an idea to boldly return to space.
With the future of the STAR TREK franchise in doubt and the premiere of the third season of ENTERPRISE in less than one month, William Shatner has told the press that he has an idea for a new direction to take TREK. "I'm trying to interest the powers -- and that has many levels to it -- for me to conceive another STAR TREK manifestation," Shatner told a reporter for The Sioux City Journal. "It would be a concept for a series."
Shatner didn't reveal any additional information about what his series would be or which timeframe his TREK would take place in.

Let's see. Could it be called:
Star Trek - GetShatneronscreenasmuchaspossible
Shatner knows Trek, but "his" novels have been fair to middling, and insisted on shoving Kirk in places he wasn't necessarily needed. I'd love for him to be an
executive, executive Producer, but no more than that (ie: general input and ideas, but as far away from the episode-to-episode creative side as possible).

I wouldn't mind seeing him on occasionally, but since they sucked him away to the future (and then killed him) in Generations, it wouldn't be in the timeframe that I like. I'd love to see an Enteprise A series, perhaps with Kirk showing up occasionally as a retired advisor.
Anything to bring back the cool ship.

Fine, as long as he isn't allowed to sing in the new series.

As long as T.J. Hooker doesn't show up as Chief Security Officer. :D
OTOH, if they could bring in Heather Locklear to play Lt. Commander Stacy Sheridan, that might help the ratings. H'mm...

He needs to take his own advice from SNL.

It's probably a musical.

Look at it this way,
It couldn't be worse that what we've got now, eh?
....unless it is a musical!;)

When did Sioux City, Iowa become the entertainment capital of the world. ;)

not much difference - both make bologna, don't they?

If Shatner ends up on Enterprise or a new Trek, I won't be watching. He has got to be one of the most annoying and awful actors I know.

Even counting Scott Bakula?

HEY! Scott Bakula used to be The MAN on Quantum Leap.

Yep, I actually like Scott Bakula. I just can't stand Shatner.

Scott Bakula can sing.

Shatner was ok.
Bakula is ok.
Stewart was very good.
I could stomach Shatner, I guess. I can't think of one good reason that I should though. He was so outclassed by Stewart in the one they were together in that it just made his limits all the more apparent. :(
But I'm still a TOS fan.

Shatner was on Howard Stern this morning and said he wasn't doing any more Trek. He said he was done with it.

As I travel in space and time
I want to stay, I want to go
You see my face, but it's not mine,
What you can't see you'll never know.
How can we meet, if I'm not there,
Our hearts may touch, our bodies close,
But time divides what we might share,
And sends us all where no one goes -
I'm just a traveller, upon the sea
Of time, of life, of fate's wide wheel,
Just a traveller in this mystery,
The me I am is all that's real to me.
We all begin this life alone,
We live, we love, all through the years,
Yet deep inside we long for home,
But it recedes, obscured by tears.
I cried a time, it falls past me,
The door of fate remains unseen,
But in my soul this hope burns free,
Oh please let there be one final leap!
I'm just a traveller upon the sea
Of time, of life, of fate's wide wheel,
Just a traveller in this mystery,
The me I am is all that's real to me.
The me I am is all that's real to me.

I love Shatner (TOS, not movie Shatner) simply for nostalgia reasons. Stewart is clearly better. Bakula is, well.... wooden, to put it nicely. I never really watched Quantum Leap, so he doesn't even get a sentimental appreciation from me.
HOWEVER.... don't forget Avery Brooks, good ol' Captain Sisko from DS9. Although Stewart is arguably the better actor, Brooks really brought life to Sisko. He did a nice job of developing the character over time, something that Stewart didn't - probably because he wasn't given much of an opportunity to do so. DS9 was a much more dynamic Trek than ST:TNG.

I remember going to a 70s horror movie starring Shatner and losing all respect for the man's acting abilities. The movie was called Impulse and his rendition of an axe murderer type was SO over-the-top and exaggerated that every time he opened his mouth the audience would guffaw. And that was even as he was getting ready to chop someone up!
That same year he also made Big Bad Mama so I guess it was a red-letter year for Shatner.

Stewart was too stiff in the beginning. He didn't loosen up until at the end. He really loosen up in the films.

Since this is now battle of the captains...
Stewart was excellent. He acted like the captain! I didn't see DS9 after it got good, so I can't compare, but Stewart looked and felt like the guy in charge: kind of distant, definitely cerebral, who commanded respect and generated goodwill in his crew. I don't think I'd have minded being a security officer on Enterprise-D. I'm not sure I'd take the red shirt position on TOS Enterprise, though.

I was wondering when Janeway was going to shave her head.
