storing backup on CDR

Is it ok to store my backup image on a CDR? I'd do the initial restore from a hard drive, but for safe keeping, I'd like to store the backup on a CDR. Any special instructions such as format, etc? Without any instructions, I'd simply save it off as an ISO9660, anything wrong with this?
Regards
John

Just burn the backup file like you would any other file and it'll be fine.

Yea... burning your image to CDR is just fine. I backed my original image up to a CDR almost 2 years ago and pulled it out for the first time late last week. I pulled off the image and used it to restore my screwed up Hughes box. All worked well.

You can restore directly from the CD-R, in fact, assuming the MFS Tools Linux CD can read the CD-R. To that end, I'd recommend using a conventional CD-R burning package, like Easy CD Creator or Nero, rather than a packet-writing package that tries to make the CD-R look like a big floppy disk. Linux is more likely to have problems reading a CD-R created with a packet-writing package. Of course, even if Linux has problems reading the CD-R, you can copy the files to a hard disk under Windows, so it's not really that big of a deal.
