I don't know if this has ever been done before. I know we have a topic for favorite episode, but how about favorite season of any show. The best overall season of your favorite shows.

I'll give a few to start.

Buffy: Season 2
Angel: Season 3
Twin Peaks: Season 1
Roswell: Season 1

The Lone Gunmen: Season 1 (and only, alas).

Buffy: Season 2
Angel: Season 2
Firefly: Season 1/2
Freaks & Geeks: Season 1/2
Undeclared: Season 1/2

Buffy - Season 2
My So-Called Life - season 1 (a gimmee)

To be honest Buffy is one of the few shows where I have actually attempted to rank seasons

Am I one of the few who liked Buffy season 3 the most?

Posted by: LoadStar

Yes. :) Kidding... no, Season 3 was great, but I've gotta stick with my previous answer that season 5 whomped all over season 3, simply because Glory was a primo big bad. The Mayor was a very cool big bad, but Glory was better, IMHO.

Shield: Season 1
X-Files is a tough one between 3 and 4
I'll go with 3

Law & Order: Season 8
Seinfeld: Season 9

Tony

Six Feet Under: Season 1
Sopranos: Seasons 1&2
Sex and the City: Seasons 1&2

Sopranos: Season 2 was where it really came together for me.
Roswell: Season 3. Season 1 was decent, Season 2 had too many crappy episodes to qualify. I think Season three is where they really brought the characters to life. Especially the last four episodes.
That 70's Show: The last season. Simple equation Eric + Donna = Me Happy. I hated the whole breakup season but there were some funny episodes.

Buffy season 5 was my second favorite. I loved 3, just because of the finale, where the entire class whipped out the weapons.

Simpsons 3-5 (the golden age)
Scrubs season 1

Buffy Season 3 edges out Seasons 2 and 5, which edge out 1 and 4 and 7, all of which kick Season 6's @$$. My very unscientific method of ranking seasons has to do with 2 things: the number of truly great episodes, and the coolness of the Big Bad (which is sort of a tiebreaker).

For my money, S3 has an incredible number of truly great episodes, so it wins.

Sport night season one before the laugh track.

Banacek any season.

Babylon 5: Season 3
Babylon 5: Season 4

Posted by: Big_Daddy

Simpsons: seasons 3-5
Futurama: seasons 3-4 (by DVD reckoning, not necessarily Fox broadcasting)

Farscape: season 3

X-Files: the 2 seasons before the movie, whatever those were

Sports Night started with a laugh track. It gradually faded out over the first season.

The only show I've ever thought about in terms of season is Buffy. That's only because the show is so self contained within those seasons. Anyone could sit down watch just one season and get all the closure they need.

I guess if I had to really think about it the first season of Dawson's Creek was great as was the second season of Alias.

Season 6 of "Mystery Science Theater 3000". Comedy Central was FINALLY available on a STB from my local cable company. I know a lot of people are huge Joel Hodgson fans, I am too, but this was my first full season of the show and I SO loved it! IMO, there was so much talent that came through that show that I enjoyed it all the way through. Still my favorite TV show.

Season 2 of "The Sopranos". Again, my first full season of the show. I had to see what the buzz was all about. Once you do that, you're hooked.

Seasons 1-5 of "The Simpsons". A ground-breaking show, it's sadly run it's course.

Simpsons: what whitson77 said, early to mid-90s were pure gold.

SFU: Season 1
The Shield 1, 2 (both seasons have been equally spectacular IMO)
Buffy Season 2
The X-Files Season 4, with honorable mention going to season 6 for some very fine standalone episodes; including, IMO, the best episode of the entire series, Monday.

Farscape - S3 (most emotional impact)
Babylon 5 - S3 and S4 (these have to be taken together I think)
The Sopranos - S1 (but all are great)
West Wing - S1
24 - S1
Alias - S1

The Shield: Season 2
Twin Peaks: Season 1
Buffy: Season 3 (although I'm only 3/4 of the way done with it..)
The Simpsons: Season 5
Deep Space Nine: Season 6 (4 deserves honorable mention for "Our Man Bashir")
Family Guy: Season 2
The Mole: Season 2, the next Betrayal (Bring back Anderson, dammit!)
