I read all the instructions from Hinsdale. However my question is if I am adding a second drive to a Sony Series 1 and I have telnet access on my Tivo, do I still need to pull the original drive out of my Tivo and run the MSFADD or can I just plug the new drive into the Tivo and do it from the bash prompt in Telnet? Probably a newbie thing, but thanks for any help!

Yeah, it's a newbie thing. MFSADD is not a program that's installed on your TiVo. You have to pull the drive out of your TiVo and install them both on your PC before you use the MFSADD command.
