Dear Moderators,

How about posting an FAQ for the "TiVo Suggestion Avenue" forum?

During the last few days, I've read almost all of the pages on this forum, and it seems to me that the dialogue here could be streamlined considerably by requesting (or perhaps requiring) that folks read the FAQ page before posting anything, so that they can see whether their suggestion has already been made. That way, there could be less repetition of ideas that have already been posted, and less repetition of ideas that are already being implemented in upcoming software upgrades.

The Suggestion Avenue FAQ page could cover questions like:

1.) What is the purpose of this forum?

2.) Who's listening? Are we just talking to each other? Or are TiVo developers monitoring the dialogue here? If so, how seriously do they take it, and what are they doing with it? Do they look at the number of postings as an indicator of how seriously to consider a topic? Do members of the TiVo development team contribute to the dialogue here? If so, what are their UserNames?

3.) What is the track record of this forum in generating ideas that actually get implemented? What ideas that have been generated here have actually found their way into current or upcoming versions of TiVo software?

4.) What new features are planned for upcoming TiVo software releases, and when? (Yes, I know there is a separate FAQ page for version 2.0, but it wouldn't hurt to duplicate that same info in a "Suggestion Avenue" FAQ page.)

5.) What are the most frequent suggestions that have been posted here that have not yet been implemented in current or upcoming TiVo software releases? In brief summary, what are the pros and cons of each of these suggestions? What is the current status of each of these suggestions among the TiVo development team? (Are they under serious consideration/research? Have they been put on the "back burner"? Have they been written off as infeasible?)

For myself, I am quite pleased with the overall quality and usability of the TiVo product. I see room for marginal improvements in a few areas, many of which will be handled in version 2.0, but many of which will not (e.g., the awkwardness of the current method of entering text in "Search by Name", the lack of folders for organizing programs, the lack of an "undelete" option, the lack of a multiple-program copy to VCR, inability to change the video-quality on tasks in the "To Do List" queue, inability to change the sorting order on the "Now Showing" menu). Nevertheless, despite these small gripes, I think TiVo is a great and useful product, with high user-friendliness. So, I hope that this forum can be as effective as possible in generating and motivating positive improvements to make it even better, and I think that a simple FAQ page could improve its effectiveness.
