Favorite Futurama Episode

So now that we've all seen every episode, what are your favorites?

I think my personal one is one I just saw tonite of the NP list.... "The problem with Popplers".... I can't count the times I darn near fell out of my chair during that one...

"Whoa, that hippie is starting to kick in!"

Posted by: gone crazy

LOL!!!!!!!! I loved that episode, I saw it the other night......my best friend just purchased the second season on DVD for like $59.99.....

Posted by: speedy4022

I would have to say my favorite episode was the one with the planet of the amazon women.

Posted by: Connie

The one with the giant flying brains, where we find out that Leelah's pet is the mastermind behind bringing Fry into the future, with the virtual reality combat through several classic books... a truly sublime episode. Too bad I'm still a little too sleepy to remember what the title is!

I haven't seen every episode yet ... so I'll come back and vote when I have. :)

The Popplers one is a good one, though.

Posted by: TiVoJedi

The one were Fry gets worms is pretty funny too.

I think that one was The Day the Earth Stood Stupid. Also one of my favorites. I also like The Why of Fry when we find out how he able to
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
beat the big brains.
:) It was so cool how they related all those episodes together. I'll miss that show.

I love the Simpsons but never really watched Futurama. Does it have a storyline or is it like the simpson and just focuses on Satire?

IMHO, although Futurama definitely had satricial commentary in some episodes (such as "A Big Ball of Garbage" when a ball of garbage from old NY comes back to threaten new NY; or any episode with Richard Nixon's head), it is more story-driven than recent Simpsons. Probably more like older Simpsons (circa seasons 2-4).

My favorite funny episode was "Amazon Women in the Mood" (want snu-snu?). My favorite overall episode was the series finale, "The Devil's hands are idle playthings", mainly because of the nice way they wrapped up the Fry/Lela relationship.

I liked the one with the what if machine that put them all in a world of videogames. :)

Posted by: spanishannouncetable

Any episode in which Bender is smoking, drinking, or dancing. Also, the ones where he insults the "stupid meatbags" he hangs around with.

That pretty well covers it :D

You mean there was more to the show than this

Yes. "Drop down and reverse course!"

I dig the one where they first log onto the internet. Favorite stuff from "A Bicyclops Built for Two":

The internet ads that literally attack you. The really really filthy chat room, and the really filthy chat room. The parody of Married with Children was pretty damn funny too. The video game sequence was great too.

I'm also a huge fan of "The Deep South" where the crew goes fishing and gets dragged down underwater and finds the lost city of Atlanta. The fishing sequence was great (Fish Pheromone anybody?), and the best line from that was when Farnsworth pulls out the huge anti pressure pill and everyone is, "I can't swallow that!" and he says, "That's OK, it's a suppository." And who can forget Dr. Zoidberg, Homeowner.

Posted by: Connie

"The Deep South" also had the =real= Donovan singing a parody of his "Atlantis" which I thought was sublime.

Posted by: sschwart

I never seem to be able to full get the song at the end of 'How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back' out of my head.... and of course, "I am Bender... Please insert girder"... "I am Bender, baby! Please insert liquour!!"

Probably my favorite episode is 'Roswell That Ends Well' though :)

I haven't seen even close to all of them but I found "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" to be both laugh out loud funny and heartwarming. That is my favorite so far.

For those who haven't see it and didn't have an SP set up for the FOX schedule buggery, "The Why of Fry" will be replayed this Sunday. The last installment of "The Chronicles of Fry" for lack of a better strory arc title :). Don't know if this was already thrown up in TV show talk, but I hadn't seen it and thought this would be a good place for it. Great episode.

"past-nastification", classic.

FOX now running two episodes per Sunday for the next couple weeks. Why couldn't they treat it this way before they knee-capped it? "Hey DVD's are selling like hot-cakes, CN's getting huge ratings, let's run two back to back now that we've killed an obviously great show"

"Where No Fan Has Gone Before"
Fry, Bender, and Leela got to the forbidden planet of Omega 3 to retrieve the banned Star Trek tapes.

It was the best episode of Star Trek that I've seen in at least three years......

Posted by: Fustanella

Did the reason why Jimmy Doohan didn't want to play along ever come to light? Welshie indeed.

Posted by: McGonigle

Even Bones was there...although he didn't say much.

Posted by: Connie

One of my favoritest little things about Futurama -- the "whoosh" sound that all the doors made... was sampled from the original Star Trek series. :)

Posted by: bidger

I've seen some fine episodes mentioned, I'd never seen the "popplers" episode until it aired on CN (one of many reasons I'm glad they're airing repeats of the show), but my fave has yet to be mentioned. It's "Futurestock" where "the 80's guy" takes over Planet Express. One of my favorite scenes is where Fry meets "80's guy" at the Cryogenically Frozen Support Group and Fry asks if he remembers "The Safety Dance". "80's guy" says sure and starts mimicking the song, "Duh-Duh-Dit-Dit-Duh-Duh". Fry says, "That dance wasn't as safe as they let on". Loved it.

Oh yeah. In "Space Pilot 3000", upon seeing the door slide up into the ceiling with the whoosh sound, Fry goes "Cool, just like the doors on Star Trek!"
Then the door slams down on his head..... :D

That's because "He's dead, Jim."

Question -- do the DVDs have any extras like commentaries or interviews with the creators/cast? Because that would make them worth buying for me.

Posted by: DPF

Yes, they do. I've got both S1 and S2. Great sets, commentaries on many episodes, not all.
Definitely worth the purchase, especially if you stumble across one of the $25 BB deals for S2.

There is commentary on ALL episodes, and it's great.

Buy!

I,Roommate is my #1 choice. After the first two episodes which were pretty entertaining, this ep really hooked me.

So many good bits - the "Escher" apartment, the first time Bender was sober, Bender's dreams.... all good stuff.

I also enjoyed all the other ones listed, though surprised nobody mentioned Godfellas. Thats probably my second favorite, and maybe probably the best one that has the potential to offend a lot of people :)

Posted by: Avian

My favorite has to be "The Deep South" If only because Dr. Zoidberg is so damn funny in that episode :)

I've now got both S1 and S2 on dvd, Season 2 was only $25 at target last week.

I think my favorite was when Fry finds out he's his own grandpa. Thus eliminating the Delta brain wave, making him immune to the Brains.

Having just seen "The Why of Fry" this past weekend when Fox re-ran it, I just heard about Fry being his own grandfather. They alluded to the episode he went back in time and "did the nast-y in the past-y."

What episode was that? I want to make sure I catch it sometime.

Was "Why of Fry" the series finale?

Posted by: speedy4022

the episode where he becomes his own grandfather is Roswell that ends well. no the why of fry is not the series finale the devils hands are idol playthings is the series finale.

Posted by: Fustanella

Time to put on my mourning-armband and delete the Futurama SP. Sigh.

"The number you have dialed has crashed into a planet" :D

Posted by: randyf

There are SO MANY really good ones..... It'd be like asking which one of your kids is your favorite :)

A few of the gags that come to mind are when they are in line at Central Buearocracy (sp?) and the old guy says " I'm waitin' on my birth certificate"

Or the one with the giant garbage ball and the professor instructs them to put the bomb by the deposit of AOL disks !

or how bout
" Good news everyone ! 2 years ago I logged on to AOL, and IT JUST WENT THROUGH !! WHOPEE"

"Scientists renamed URANUS to put an end to that stupid joke. Now it's called URECTUM!"

Bite my shiny metal ass!

Man I hope that somehow that show starts back up again!

Posted by: jbalfour

For some reason the episode that makes me laugh the most is "Put Your Head on My Shoulder." The Valentine's Day episode where Fry and Amy hook up.

"Could Chocolate just let me finish?"

...literally!

I think my favorite episode is "The Deep South," the one with the lost city of Atlanta.

Posted by: Fustanella

Hail, Atlanta! (Actually bringing Donovan in for that was genius.)
