TV Guide content

The TV Guide logo was mentioned here:

Shown here:

In this thread there is a link to the investor webcast:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...threadid=128375

Now in this webcast it was mentioned that TV Guide gets branding and ability to provide content.

Any ideas, more ads on the main menu or perhaps they get the white space to the right of the logo...

I was hoping this day would come.

...but not a very flattering one. :)

I'm reserving judgment on the whole TV Guide issue because of TVGuide's poor reputation, but this could turn out to be a Good Thing. It would be great to have a showcase with news and clips from the networks' new fall offerings, for instance.

I'd like to hear someone at Tivo (TivoPony?) promise us we will not see advertising on the Guide. The TVGuide banner is not only Ugly... but as they are getting their guide data from Tribune it seems stupid and misleading. I don't mind Yellow Stars. When they are interesting I even like them. I don't like the TV Guide logo, but I realize there is nothing I can do about it and it isn't enough to make me drop Tivo or anything, but If they start sticking advertising anywhere else where I have to look at it I will start looking at options (unfortunately there aren't many right now)

I'd be astonished if Pony would offer such a promise. But I sure hope that ads stay out of the program info screens.

Again, as has been made very clear on the new 4.0 for S2, the actual guide data is still TMS. I don't expect this to change because the TiVo scheduling system appears to be tied closely to TMS's format.

If there is a TV Guide Showcase (Best Bets, News, clips, etc.), I don't see why it couldn't be on S1 boxes.

It is clear to a point... but why have "TV Guide" plastered all over the guide if they aren't providing ANYTHING to the guide? You think that isn't breeding confusion? If they are providing a showcase or something. But since they aren't providing anything all their logo is is an advertisement.

I think they're 'providing' the use of their 'copyrighted' grid design.

Right, although I think it's a patent (rather than copyright) issue.

I will agree, the presence of the logo (aside maybe from the grid format) is just to build more TVG branding. If you're on the hottest TV device since the VCR, it is a good thing. I think TiVo felt this was an okay tradeoff to get rid of the legal stuff and get access to otherwise unavailable technology.

Since there doesn't appear that there will be guide data from TVG, I do hope a showcase is put it asap with editorial content (which does appear to be in the works from all of the announcements).

They are providing their Grid design (cough) but their logo is even on Tivo's Live TV Guide design or on the descriptions that Tribune provides...

TV Guide/Gemstar feel that they have patented the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). They feel that even if the data is not presented in a grid format, it still infringes on their EPG patents.

*cough*

Well, I know TiVo can't afford to fight such idiocy in court... Shame that such stupidity has to win out. I'd cancel my TV Guide subscription if I had one.
