SWEEEEEEEET. At least some good shows are still alive.

I have to wait 1 year to see this show again. I guess it beats never seeing it again.

Whoo hoo!

I watched about the first 70% of the first season. Then I started to feel the show was the same every week. I don't know if anyone else felt this way.
How was season two? I haven't watched any episodes of it. Is it worth watching if I didn't especially like the first season??

I did the exact same thing. I thought it was good for the first few, then it went into a lull and I stopped watching as well. It set up some tempting storylines but never went down that avenue.

Whew ... thank goodness ... especially after this season's cliffhanger.
One thing about those summer-run shows ... the seasons seem so short. Do I really have to wait until next May for the new stuff? Man ...

Well, the summer seasons are short. 13 episodes is only about half of a "normal" run of 22 to 26 episodes.

It's not just summer--a lot of the non-major network shows run around 13 episodes (Sopranos, The Shield, The Wire, yadda yadda), regardless of when they air.
A bummer, yes, but I think it also helps them keep the quality up (one thing many of these shows have in common is they are more intense and focused then most regular shows), so it's a trade-off...
As for Dead Zone, I think the first season pretty much just set up the premise, and the second (not counting the 2 1/2 summer episodes, which seemed like water-treading fill-ins, save the last) was where the overall story really kicked into gear. I think if you start with the second season, you won't be missing much, but there are a lot of important developments in the second, so I wouldn't advise starting with the third.

Was there 13 episodes of DeadZone this summer? It sure didn't seem like it to me. Seemed more like 7 or something. I like the show but I think that this season wasn't as good as last. Although the episode up at the lake with the storm was pretty good.

The episodes that just ran were an add-on to Season 2; they were specifically designed not to further the story much (since they had already set up Season 3 in the "real" Season 2).
It's nice that USA had enough faith in the show to want some extra episodes, but I'm not sure this was the best way to handle it...

Is it just me or the Execs at TV networks think that have to keep making new shows and canceling shows before they even start to simply show who is in charge. I mean come on USA is the worst network. I wish they would cancel dead zone simply so SCIFI could pick it up and show it on a proper TV network! What else does USA have? These places need to learn to build a fan base give is at least 18 epsiodes in the summer and USA has a HUGE HIT!

Yeah, 'cause Sci-Fi is just LEGENDARY for their fine treatment of quality shows!

Agreed.
They keep "Crossing Over with John Edward" but cancel "Farscape?" Man ...

The p.s. at the end of the exec producer's announcement at http://www.usanetwork.com/series/th...ne/from_ls.html says:

P.S. USA Network is currently deciding when The Dead Zone will return to their schedule. It will either be March or June of 2004. If it's June, we will probably only get to do 13 episodes. If we premiere the new cycle in March, however, we could end up producing up to 22 new shows. Stay tuned!

Yall know my feelings about this. Sci-Fi sucks in this regard.
Just wanted a me too.

Last I heard, SciFi was part of USA. How is SciFi a proper network while USA isn't???
Posted by: brahamt
I'm not sure the fans of Witchblade think that USA is a proper network.

? ? ?
Witchblade was on TNT...
Posted by: Trent Bates
Okay, I'll concede on the Witchblade concept even though I remember it being on TNT as well. I understand being upset at a network for cancelling show after show. (FOX!!!)
Please don't think I'm necessarily defending USA here, but are there other reasons for USA to be considered less of a network than SciFi? I personally can't think of anything that USA has done that I've objected to over the years. I do kind of miss Rhonda Shear and "Up All Night!" though. :(

Don't you mean "UP... All Night!" ;)

Oh, I wasn't arguing with you on that--USA is a network, pretty much like any cable network. I'd say the only thing that separates it from Sci-Fi is pssibly the amount of original programming--Sci-Fi certainly has more shows (although they tend not to be very good), and if you count the straight-past-video movies they show, then probably more original movies as well. But they're in the same ballpark, as far as I'm concerned.
I was just confused about the Witchblade example...

Yep, that was a mistake. For some reason I remembered Witchblade on USA (not sure why, because now I clearly remember it on TNT).
Sorry about that.

Any word on Season 2 on DVD? My wife and I just finsihed watching season 1 and really enjoyed it. I have the first three episodes and the last episode of season 2 recorded on Tivo but that is a big gap in between. Any help would be appreciated.
Posted by: Graymalkin
Actually, this isn't the end of Season 2. The second half of season 2 begins in January. So don't expect a DVD for Season 2 for another year or so.
Posted by: ClutchBrake
No, we already seasons 1, 2, and 2.5. Next year will be season 3.
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
Clutch is right. The Season 2 finale was last spring, then they ran a mini-season in the summer. Season 3 starts, I believe, in January.
Gray, you might be thinking of Monk, which is indeed halfway through Season 2, with a long wait ahead for the rest...
Posted by: Graymalkin
Man, these mini-seasons are driving me batty.

USA is currently re-running Season 2, they're only about 3 eps in...those are the only ones I saw earlier this year, too, so I'm glad they're re-running them now (although next week, instead of Sunday it's on late Tuesday night [midnight ET]...and looking at USA's website just now, I guess it will continue on Tuesday night through at least October, although the time varies).
So anyway, you can catch 'em on USA instead of waiting for DVD.... ;)
