What are your coma shows?

Some may call them background noise, but I only watch them when I can blow my day off falling in and out of consciousness on the couch. I want to watch something I enjoy, but I can't watch something I actually want or need to pay attention to. I've noticed I've become rather specific, lately, favoring hour-long documentaries about things (e.g., bridges, buildings, airplanes) as found on Modern Marvels, Master Plans, and Monumental. I generally want to pay too much attention to similar shows about people, processes, and ideas.

The "I Love the '70s" series on VH1 is really good background stuff. Perfect for the short attention span. No plot, just nostalgia.
Big Brother is borderline coma for me. I'll only watch it while I'm doing something else, because it's not worth the time otherwise. But I pay enough attention (and pause if necessary) to catch the necessary "plot" points and cattiness.

I usually put on an old Simpsons episode and then fall asleep.

The TV Guide channel! Just let the grid run over and over and over and over....

Trading Spaces, Trading Spaces Family, While You Were Out. There's only so many ways they can do those shows, so as long as I see the setup, a bit of the middle, and the finish, I'm good to go. If I wake up and don't understand what's going on, I just rewind it a bit.

There is nothing better than GOLF! I usually have my TiVo record a good 4 to 5 hour block of it on Sunday. When I return from hacking it myself, I lay down and start it from the beginning. Dozing in and out, waking only long enough to see the score and fall back asleep. It is as close to heaven on earth as you will find.

Law & Order, L&O:CI, and L&O:SVU.
They follow the same format close enough that they could be radio programs for me.

Big Brother definately.
During the regular season there are, unfortunately, a lot that I watch that are these types of shows. I really should just stop watching them altogether.
Enterprise, L&O: SVU, Boston Public comes to mind as worst offenders for me.

Smallville, CSI, Mad TV and Enterprise.
When I don't have enough of those available, I record old movies or syndicated episodes of shows already seen.

I agree totally, on Sat & Sun usually an afternoon nap is in the works and nothing is better than golf to drift in and out of consciousness!

I like the semi-informational stuff as well. Modern Marvels is one we have in common. I just love to doze off during these types of shows. Makes me feel like I'm actually "doing something constructive" while in fact, I'm really just being a couch potato. :D
I also like all the "Home Improvement" type stuff since I like to putter around and do little projects here. I tend to record anything with "Home" in the title or that has Bob Vila in it. Home Again, Home Savvy, Home Matters, This Old House (derivitives count too), This Old House Classics (years and years of plaid shirts) Ask This Old House, etc. Good stuff for a lazy day and sometimes even motivates me to get off the couch and accomplish something. Sometimes... I don't know about you, but after all that hard work I need to take a nap or go to the Fridge to rebuild my strength. :)
