Disc maintenance utilites needed BADLY!

The TiVo is essentially a computer running Linux, right?

Why not incorporate the Linux disc maintenance utilities, especially a "scan disc" utility that would detect and lock out bad sectors.

My 30 hr Sony unit developed bad sectors right about the time the warranty expired. It interferes with recording to the point of even halting recording.

If I could run scan disc on the drive, I could fix the problems without losing my box for several weeks (or months) and I wouldn't need to completely replace the drive, along with that major expense.

Right now I'm pretty peeved at TiVo and Sony. I've had hard drives that have lasted for years with intensive daily use. What kind of crap hard drive did they put in this unit? And since most hard drives are warrantied for several years, why was the warranty only 90 days?

TiVo can make me happy by putting disc utilities in the software upgrade so that I can fix my unit and stop having these recording problems. Than you for listening.
