TiVo Hacks
100 Industrial-Strength Tips & Tools
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/tivohks/
Is it any good?

I can't imagine there being ANYTHING in this book that hasn't been discussed here or on that OTHER Tivo hacking site.

Perhaps, but it would be nice to have everything in one place, rather than trying to read through thousands of threads (in the proper order) and dealing with old-timers who keep telling the new-timers to "just search the forum."

I just ordered the book through Amazon.com, so I guess I'll see. I'm a new "hacker", and have only installed a second drive to increase my capacity to 140 hours (DirecTV DVR - Hughes). While the info might all be right here on this forum, I too thought it'd be easier to have a printed summary.

I ordered from bookpool.com its 2 bucks cheaper then from amazon.com.

Series1 hacking is pretty well documented. Series2 hacking really needs a good reference.

Does anybody cover series 2 hacks?
(240-000080????)

No Series 2 hacks here (other than the remote and capacity hacks).
We got ours!

Amazon.com apparently knows me frighteningly well. And I've never ordered any TiVo-related products from them.
This cropped up on my front page. Another TiVo hacking book

Actually, there are three TiVo hacking books on Amazon right now...
Tivo Hacks by Raffi Krikorian
Hacking the Tivo by William Von Hagen
and
Hacking TiVo: The Expansion, Enhancement and Development Starter Kit with CD-ROM by Jeff Keegan

I feel compelled to point out that Jeff is a member of this community and has done a bit of original hacking himself, while the other two were unknown prior to the books. (Although they did consult with some members of this community)

The "TiVo Hacks" book specifically states that there are no Series2 hacks in it. Does "Hacking TiVo..." cover Series2?
Also, I seem to remember reading here somewhere that a guy recompiled Linux and then was able to access his Series2. Has anyone else tried this?

von hagen's book covers series 2 hacks, both bash_env and monte. there is a review of it on "the other forum"

Personally, I am waiting for Jeff Keegan's book. It was just released by amazon yesterday, and I have seen and read alot of Jeff Keegan's posts here. He is very knowledable and I can only hope that his knowledge transfers well into print. I ordered it, it should be here tomorrow. I'll post my thoughts in a few days after I browse it a bit.
