Best price this week on 120GB drives?

I just picked up my second HDVR2 through the DTV $99 offer, so I'm finally getting brave enough to crack one open and add a second drive. Are there any great deals this week, and which is better, Maxtor or WD?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched for awhile with no results.

Doh!!!
They had it at $110. I see it is out of stock now. Maybe that is why the price went back up

I just posted this on another thread, but I got the WD1200JB for $40 after rebate just now at Circuit City:
They had a promotion on the 120gb Western Digital drives (WD1200JB, 8mb cache, 7200rpm). They're selling them for $159.00 with an $80 dollar mail-in rebate (a $50 & a $30 one). So that should amount to $80 for the new drive. I took in a print-out from Fry's outpost.com where the same drive is listed for $120. Had them do a price match, so basically out the door at $120, minus the $80 rebate = $40. Not bad!
One word of warning: try to be selective with the cashier. The first person I got was a manager, who said they could not price adjust because they have to compare their price after rebate (thus $120 is more than their $80). I didn't feel like arguing with them, so I went down the street to the next Circuit City and took it to the teenage girl at the music register and got the deal.
Good luck!

Was this a print-out from the internet price or from a circular? They state that they only match local store prices and I don't have a Fry's near me so I guess that I'm out of luck!

I had ordered a Seagate Barracuda V 120 G from eebuy.com for $95 both because the price was right and because the Barracuda V has a good reputation for being quiet, both here and on other forums.
Then I noticed a $15 rebate certificate on the tigerdirect.com site. So, now I'm in it for only $85 and should have a nice quiet 145 hour series 1 Tivo.
Tiger Direct has the Seagate ST3120022A 120G drive on their site for $95 and since they are kind enough to provide the rebate certificate, maybe you should buy from them instead. My drive will be here tomorrow and I'll be sure to post about my upgrade experience. This forum makes it sound so easy.....
[ hey, I tried to post URLs to products and the rebate certificate, but I'm a newbie and need 5 posts before I'm allowed to do that. Go to bizrate.com and do a search on ST3120023A and they'll give youa link to the product on eebuy.]

Hi warehouse - the ad I printed was from Outpost.com, which is an internet retailer owned by Fry's, which has several large stores out here in the west (great selection, very good prices on most items, very lousy salespeople & customer service). Since there is a local Fry's, they can do a price match. Generally Outpost's prices and specials are the same as the retail stores, but not always. Which is why the manager the first time claimed they were two seperate companies and they wouldn't compare prices with them.
I read in another thread that Circuit City was selling 200gb WD drives in 160gb packages, and that they had a promotion where they sold for $199 with a $100 rebate, so essentially a 200gb drive for $99. Sam's Club has the 160gb for $148, so if you could get a price comparison on top of that (like I did with the 120gb drive) you'd get it for only $45 or so. However in my area at least they did not have that promotion, and all the 160gb packages indeed only had 160gb drives in them (clear wrapper allows you to check them out now instead of the boxed kind).
I still think even without the price comparison that $80 for a 120gb drive is pretty reasonable, and the WD drives have never failed me yet (I have three four of them).
You could try the Outpost.com ad, you might get lucky and get a cashier or someone who doesn't know the policy or care about it. Or try to find somewhere locally that carries it for less than $159.
Good luck!

Jeremyclark - Have you had any heat or noise problems with the WD drives. I was going to look for a Seagate because of its reputation in those areas but the WD and Maxtors are usually cheaper.

Hey !!
Try this out..EBAY !! I've bought 2 120gb seagate drives for about $55.00 each. NEW in sealed packages.. I've gotten others for friends and you cant beat the prices if your willing to watch & wait a few days..

Maxtor 120GB drives are about $60 at Staples after rebates - check spoofee for details.

I've never had heat or noise related issues with the WD drives. I've had a 120gb in my UltimateTV unit for two years now and no issues whatsoever. The others are in my computer and I've had no issues there, where I have had two Maxtors and a Seagate fail on me before switching to WD. At least in my experience I've had the best luck with WD drives.
