"pilots"

I hate missing pilot episodes of new shows. Can I put "pilot" in a Wishlist? Will that catch them all? I am always optimistic this time of year....I hope there will be something I like in the new crop. TV is so disappointing nowadays.

If you have a DirecTiVo I suggest the following 2 WishLists:

Show Types/Season Premiere
PILOT and Show Types/Premiere

Set both to AutoRecord, First Run only.

The first is a category only WishList; the second is a Title WishList with category restriction.

I find that returning shows are categorized as Season Premieres, while new shows are designated simply Premieres.

If you have a standalone unit, I'd suggest making a non-auto record WL for "pilot" (keyword). Otherwise you'll end up with a lot of programs about guys who fly planes. ;) (I think I'd prefer the non-AR method even if I did have the categories that a directivo comes with. There are just some things I know I don't want to see! Then again, I also micro-manage my Sims. :))

The thread in my sig suggests this along with a bunch of other suggestions. The reason I create it as an autorecord keyword WL FRO is that I'll run through my To Do list more than once every two weeks and glance at the blue star items. I just delete the ones that are about a pilot. If one accidentally gets recorded, I delete it afterwards. No big deal.

The funny thing is, I hardly ever watch the pilot shows. I keep them on my TiVo for a week or so. If I don't hear anyone talking about how good it was, I delete it. Sometimes I'll scan quickly to see if there is a laugh track. If so, I delete it. Just doesn't appeal to me.

TiVolution has a handy guide to the season and series premieres. Just go there and record the ones you want.

At first I didn't read this closely enough and started looking for these "Show Types" on my SA TiVo. Then I re-read and saw this was for DirecTiVo only.

What kind of extra guide information do the DTiVos have that the SAs don't? Having a "Show Type" filter in the Wishlists would be very helpful. I assume this is something extra coming from DirecTV and not the TiVo guide. Too bad.
