Need Tivo Series 2 Image

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello, I recently traded my Series 1 Tivo for a series 2 TCD24004A model unit.

:)

My problem is that no matter what I try I can't seem to be able to get a good image made of my original Tivo drive (40GB Maxtor). The backup image made by MFSTOOLS seems ok, but when I restore to the new WD 80GB drive, I get "restore Failed, decompression error"

I have tried just about anything I can think of, like setting my BIOS to UDMA33 instead of UDMA100-133, lowering my processor and SDRAM speed, etc. Ocassionally when backing up, my computer just freezes necessitating a hard reset, which leads me to believe that I have something going (going, going,.......) in my computer's innards.

Anyway, to make the story short I was able to do a direct backup|restore with the following command:

mfsbackup -f 9999 -o - /dev/hdc|mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi - /dev/hdb

So now I have my new WD 80GB drive installed and the original Tivo Maxtor 40GB on a shelf. I would like to reuse that drive, but I am afraid to since I have no backup.

Could some kind soul point me in the right direction to obtain a tested backup image for this unit?

I have seen some files at an FTP site;

ftp://ftp.abs.net/tivo/Backups/

but the only SA series 2 images were for ATT series 2 units.

I don't want a repeat of Tivolutionary's post of a couple of years ago (Remember the "Don't be stupid....." thread?).

Can this image be used in a Tivo brand unit?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Art !
If you happen to find where the series 2 backup images are,,I could use one for a TCD140060.
Thx;

Hey...

I'm having problems restoring as well... however, I am able to make a good backup (I think) but can't be certain becuase I can't get the restore to work right (actually, it backs up and restores without any error but the NEW HDD gets stuck at "A few more Seconds".)

I'm thinking it;s my replacement HDD. But can't find out until I buy another one... so, if you want, email me directly at kenwu@cyberwu.com and I'll give you access to my ftp so you can D/L my image and try for yourself and at the same time, test and verify for me.

Let me know if you would be interested. My image is of the DSR7000 Series 2.
